Who was the Captain?

i was thinking the other day after re watching Aliens.... Who pilotted the Sulako? No captain or crew.... Did it piot itself? Is this another plot hole? Does anyone know why a huge interstellar Military vessel would be left in orbit without crew? what if there was a malfunction.... or an emergency!
