Great topic and spot on I agree with the ranking.
Alien Isolation is the ideal Alien game, and it really manages to showcase the terrifying nature of the xenomorph like no other Alien game.
It also brought the xeno back to its former glory from the first Alien as this "unstoppable force" that can't be killed unlike the cannon fodder from Aliens (don't get me wrong that's another masterpiece and the best sci-fi horror action film ever made imo)
The sense of being hunted by the Alien was always present and you never really felt safe, not even when attempting to save! This is masterful survival horror design at its finest.
The fact that the slightest mistake could be fatal gave a nice nerve to the gameplay without feeling unfair.
Even the crude worker type androids were scary, as they slowly lumbered towards you like wax terminators.
It's clear that the game was made by fans who obviously loved the film, it shows. From the slightest detail to the trademark sound effects, this was intended as the ultimate Alien game.
I also have fond memories of Alien Trilogy as it was among the earliest games I played on the PS1, and to this date, despite inferior graphics, it remains a scary classic with fantastic atmosphere.
Aliens vs Predator (3) was great despite moderate reviews, while the main characters weren't interesting they nailed the relevant things; the Aliens and the Predators.
I sort of wished that the Aliens where slightly more deadly, or alternatively the Predators slightly less deadly as the Predators felt like bosses while the Aliens were again, cannon fodder. Well it makes sense as the weapons from Aliens packed a punch to say the least but the Predators were portrayed like almighty gods and bullet sponges.
I never played Alien Resurrection but I intend to find one on ebay in the near future.
An Alien game that I would highly recommend is Aliens Infestation for the Nintendo DS, it's a super charming fan treat that also has loads of references to Aliens, with jump scares (in 2D! Hey it works!) and cool dialogue.
I haven't really played a bad Alien game but I skipped Colonial Marines given how it turned out according to critics; dramatically downgraded graphics, AI issues and glitches.
Maybe I'll look into it in the future.
I don't really have a good idea for an Alien game except maybe a great Colonial Marines game complete with motion trackers and the standard set of Aliens, Facehuggers and the Queen, no variations please.
Or maybe Prometheus the game, where you attempt to answer riddles! Each riddle successfully answered will result in a loud orchestrated music clip from the film!
No thanks.
That being said I'm looking forward to more Alien games for sure!
