I have heard about movie studios experimenting with releasing movies in theaters and stream on the same release day. IDK if it has ever happened. Which would you do?

I would totally stay home.

I would too.Depends on cost though. What i've read in the past is they might charge 50 bucks for home service. They did it with The Force Awakens in Canada.

$50 would be a gamble. If I was completely confident it would be good, I would do it. Driving, parking, standing in line, expensive and lame snacks, loud kids, driving home etc- I would drop the cash to avoid that BS.

That was a couple years ago i think.Hopefully it would be a lot cheaper today.

For stuff like Alien or Star Wars movies - definitely need to watch it in a cinema.  For other films, home might an option.  If the internet connection was reliable.

It would be totally worth it if a group of friends chipped in and made a private party of it.

That would be great.Though i would replace friends with family.Don't have many friends.

nin- me either, but my dog digs everything I like lol.

SM- The theater experience is superior, but I would sacrifice it for absolute silence and no interruptions and streaming is no issue here although that can be a problem in other areas.

$10 per person plus whatever  food and beverage seems worth it.

Everyone would chip in.I would provide food and drinks. Also found out i was wrong about Star Wars in Canada.

My math was off. For 4 it would be about $13 per person. Still a bargain for those choosing that method.

Not bad at all considering that's probably how much you pay to see it in theaters.

Sounds unlikely since theaters are worried they won't sell enough snacks according to Wired. DVD/bluray it is then! I can wait. Screw popcorn sales.

Really?Snacks?I buy my snacks from the 99 cent store and smuggle them in.Too damned expensive at the theater.Snacks what a joke.

With blockbusters making more and more money every year, I can't imagine they'd undercut themselves like this.

Besides what to stop someone renting out a hall and playing the film on a projector for 50 people.

I buy the occasional bag of popcorn, but it never really gets eaten.Kind of a waste of money, though it is my fault for not eating it.

It's just giving the public another option.Theaters aren't going anywhere.

With three kids we usually buy popcorn.  The prices are fairly galling - but it does taste good.

Depends on the theater. Some are good, some are not.

Never. Ever. I love the cinema experience. Movies are made and meant to be watched on a massive screen with an outstanding sound system. Seeing a film in theaters as it was meant to be is a completely different experience.

If there comes a trend to subdue that experience I doubt we'll see as much time, talent or money put into film anymore.

I cannot disagree. However, being an old fart, I have noticed a general lack of basic manners in theaters lately- glowing cell phones with people texting, telling someone they are viewing a movie- generally acting self important and rude and oblivious to the rest of the audience.

The experience doesn't have to be subdued. Give viewers options. What about people like I know who love sci fi but cannot physically navigate to a theater? It seems the studios could make money in the long run.

I have seen quite a few indie short films with pretty damn good production value, talent and smaller budgets. "Don't Move" comes to mind. More horror than sci fi though- short enough to check out.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9jd6lyGvMI

In sum, I can agree with what you say, but I am trying to say that there could be options.

I agree with dk.I have had one too many unpleasant theater experiences.I definitely love seeing movies on the big screen but sometimes it can horrible.I've been forced to scream at people to shut up before because of how loud and obnoxious they were.I believe they were Eventually kicked out,i got to stay.

All valid points.... yes you cant beat the Cinema... unless you have a Good Home Set up.... i have a friend who has a TV of 55" and good sound system with a sofa in the peach position for it to work... My father also has 55" and decent sound system... but its not set up on the Wall and so does not work as well.

As far as viability of Movies at Home it has its Pros and Cons...  and indeed for the Cinemas, losing on Food is also a big loss.

I think this route would work if a Movie is available for Home about 4-6 weeks after theatrical release but then its down to Price...  between 4 or more people it would be of benefit.. but for a single person or two it would be a costly process where waiting for DVD/Blu-ray or Buy to Keep Digital Downloads would be better.

If you asked me...

My Local Cinema i use (Odeon) is priced depend on time of the year at £4.50-£6 per Adult.... extra £2 Premium seating.

If i say wanted to watch Alien Covenant at Home instead... for me it would have to be about the same time as Cinema release and priced at say £25 then yes i would consider it....

If it was more... or the wait was longer, i would go to watch it at the Cinema on the Big Screen

I have been lucky to not have movie spoilt by people in the Cinema... only a few times there are people you just want to say "SHUT THE F UP"

Say like One in 6 times.... but then 50/50 you get odd noise like whispers... or Food Munching...

Oh then when people need the Toilet and move past at a important part.....

CANT BEAT HOME Releases for that.... be it DVD, Rental or even Digital like paid services my online or cable providers.

As you can Pause and Rewind ;)
