Alien 3 fans shout out- all 4 of you!

Fan since the early 80's and I'm one of the very few that like Alien 3 the most out of the entire series... just a matter of right place at the right time.

I'm in love with the first two (obviously) but something about the Gothic look and feel of Fiorina and especially the concept of the hybrid/dog/ox alien... and Dillon (one of the greatest characters in any of the films)!

Saw as a kid it back in '92 when it came out - one of the coolest experiences I've had. My buddies and I were right into GW's tabletop "Space Hulk" at that time (in fact, I think we played it when we got home from the theatre. Seeing the film infused my imagination to that game and it's artwork... and thoughts of A3 bring it to life for me every time we play... even today, I put the sound track on while gaming).

I know there are serious flaws with the script, etc. (it feels unfinished)... but a brilliant piece of work nonetheless with outstanding actors and visuals. Would love to see a remake with Vincent Ward at the helm!!

Honestly, I think it gets better with age.

I like it. It's not as good as its two predecessors but I tend to enjoy it more than anything that's come since, though maybe AC will change that.

I like it better than Aliens. Only thing I can't stand is the CGI. It's bad. But, the atmosphere and the suspense is fantastic.

Over the years I've come to like it more.

I place it third, after A L I E N, then PROMETHEUS.

It gave a profound end to Ripley's story arc....pity Fox couldn't have left it at that!

ALIEN 3 is a masterpiece, Fincher's finest work right next to Fight Club. Also, better than Aliens!

But I wish so badly that Fox goes back and fixes all the optical printing for the special effects.

The only CGI in Alien 3 is the cracks on the head at the end and the dirt flying past the camera on some of the early exterior shots.

The bambi burster in the Assembly was also CG, but nothing else.

I thought the movie was not to bad, had some flaws but otherwise it was decent a 6/10 from me.

Ah i remember that... and Space Crusade and Advanced Space Crusade they was all easy to set up and get into Games, that was cheap to play compared to the more Complex Warhammer 40K ;)

I've always liked Alien 3 and I went into the theatrical release back in '92 knowing Ripley's fate (a friend who saw it the night before let the Jones out of the bag lol), but it didn't keep me from wanting to see it. I had heard that Sigourney Weaver was co-producing the film, so I just assumed that she wanted to bring an end to the Ripley character. Overall, I liked the film. I didn't "love" it, but I definitely didn't hate it.

What made the film exceptional years later was when I picked up the Alien Anthology on Blu-Ray and I finally got to experience the "Enhanced" version of the film, which many refer to as Fincher's "Director's Cut", which broadened the character development, had the Xenomorph birth from the ox rather than the dog and also showed Ripley not birthing the alien queen during her Nestea plunge. This version of the film is worlds better than the theatrical release and I highly recommend picking it up if you've only seen the theatrical release.

After all these years, Dillon is still one of my favorite characters in any sci-fi movie. Charles S. Dutton's performance was world-class in that film. 

I never got the hype about the Assembly version of Alien 3.

It was a different host and apparently some audio was cleaned up. They skipped the final burster moment too. Otherwise I just stick to DC or assembly cuts just because they often have some tid bits the theater cuts didn't have.

I was a fan of the movie, I much prefer Alien & Aliens but have no problem watching all three, whereas I have a difficult time watching A:R without cringing..

The acting was brilliant, but I agree overall the CGI could have been better.

I like Alien 3 a lot, but it took me some time to really warm to it. Alien 3 is Alien3. What it is not, is Aliens part 2, and I think that is where I initially fell into the trap of anticipating a movie that was Aliens part 2. The Alien franchise has been nothing short of biblical, and killing off the main character does not always go down well, unless there is something in store later. At this time of year I am reminded of Jesus, who like many tradesman mysteriously vanishes on a Friday and inexplicably turns up three days later. Resurrection does change the perspective of things. As much as Blomkamp wants to resurrect Ripley in what could be an Aliens part 2 movie, at present it looks like Ripley has about as much chance of coming back as a sliding glass on a ouija board. But who knows?

I would prefer it if Alien 3 kept within the overall scheme of things, but I would’nt complain too much if there was an Alien 5. I have a soft spot for Alien 3 despite its shortfalls.

I saw the movie at the original theatrical release.  Like many folks, I was disappointed in Alien 3 because (1) it killed off Hicks and Newt at the beginning and (2) moved away from the Colonial Marines, firepower and a horde of aliens spectacle.

However, over time, I have come to appreciate the movie and believe it is thoroughly under-rated. Here are my reasons why:

(a) Alien3 is a throwback to the original Alien. The dark, claustrophobic environment; the under armed humans; a single alien foe; a great cast (Pete Postlethwaite, Brian Glover, Charles Dance, Charles S. Dutton etc.); 

(b) The assembly cut provides the film to the audience that the Director intended for us to see.  Thank you Alien Anthology.  Not some corporate edited garbage that Fox foisted on us & in the process upset Fincher to no end;

(3) Some great scenes: Brian Glover being picked up from the canteen, the Alien confronting Ripley in the Infirmary and

(4) The reappearance of Bishop with the commandoes in the final scene.

I think the enhanced version of Alien 3 is really, really good. It suffers from some poor CGI effects, but apart from that this movie has grown on me through the years. Upon viewing it for the first time in the cinema, I suppose I was expecting Aliens pt 2 and was disappointed that it was not. However now I'm glad they tried something different. I just wonder how amazing it would have been if the production process would've been smooth and less interfering from the studio. 

The Assembly had a couple of good extra bits but was generally too slow, wasted time on characters that were dead five minutes later in the first half, and has a lot of redundant scenes in the second half.

It's the assembly cut i prefer actually.Ever since i first saw it,i haven't been able to watch the (botched) theatrical cut since.It's just a richer and deeper experience in my opinion.

The Assembly comes across as 'This is absolutely everything we shot, slapped together'.  Which is exactly what assembly cuts are.  There's no attention to the flow and pacing, until you actually get down to cutting - hence the redundancy throughout.

The theatrical cut version cut a little too much, but it's a much tighter piece.

I agree that there should be some balance between the two,but there are things in the assembly cut i vastly prefer to the theatrical.Here's an example:While it's simply an alternate scene,i prefer Ripley dying with out the chestburster.To me it shows that her life was still in her hands.For the theatrical i prefer the dog to "babe" but due to the size of the ox,the bambi burster makes more sense,but that's just me.

Bursting on the way into the furnace was the best result.  Giler and Hill wanted her to burst on the gantry, break the bursters neck, the throw herself in.  Fincher called this janitor duty, and didn't want her to burst at all.  I think it was Richard Edlund who said the burster on the way down was the best payoff for the audience and I agree.  It maintains the concept of Ripley making a conscious choice to kill herself, but still allowing us to see her burst after dodging it for three films.

I wasn't aware of the neck breaking,i'm not sure how that would have worked.

It's in the comic adaptation and based on that I don't think it would've worked very well at all.

Yeah.I would almost say an exception could be made for the queen,but what difference would that make?Chestbursters kill,I don't think anyone can survive it.They most certainly could not break it's neck.

I don't think it would've worked because a) how does she live long enough to not only kill it, but then throw herself into the furnace b) how does she have the strength c) it's hard to imagine how she could've held onto the slippery squirming burster long enough to kill it and d) yeah, how could she break it's neck?

Agreed.The whole breaking the neck thing is a little too AVP for my taste any way even though Alien 3 came before that movie.It's such a silly scene,the chestburster flys out and the predator grabs it and snaps it neck.

Love the story love the cast and I too liked the version with more character development- furnace chestburster scene wasn't necessary and I agree how could she still be conscious to hold it and break its neck?  Don't know if it's do-able but-Someone needs to take this thing and re-do the CGI to be quality- like where it's seamless like parts in avatar I could not tell where the stage ended and the computer animation began.  That tunnel/door scene could be much better without too many odd angles and good CGI. "That things really pissed off!"
