What happended RIDLEY? Time for Hicks and Ripley

Im sorry but for those that say Covenant was good must of saw a different movie than me. There was terrible CGI (just cause you can use it doesn't mean you should), over use of the F word (was pointless and took away the power of it), poor character development (only like fassbender and mcbride), weak story (John Denver reference in 2104?, David created eggs?, no worries of uncharted planet animals/organisms), no tension build up, cartoon behavior (the little alien standing with arms open) and many missed opportunities. I love the franchise and want to see a final film in the prequel regardless, but this is really hurting the legacy. Ridley should back away and let somebody else direct and stop with the terrible terrible writing. Then can we please have the film everyone wants with ripley and hicks.

I think RS said that there was never a script to begin with for A5. I am not against A5 but I am against erasing A3 and AR- regardless of who hates those movies. It is part of the Quadrilogy, warts and all.

JOHND, it's awesome that you joined (or rejoined) the site today to express your disappointment.

'I love the franchise and want to see a final film in the prequel regardless'

If you love the franchise, why don't you wait with your negative comment a month? Why do you try to manipulate others? Does expressing your negative feelings do good to the franchise? Hm?

This idea can be expanded outside of movies. Maybe my favorite band will listen to my input on how their next album should be. After all, I am a fan and know better than they of how they should precede.

Yes, I agree. $100 million down the drain. They couldn't have made a DECENT damn alien city? SERIOUSLY!? WHY a DIRECT ripoff off the Vatican instead of something like the architecture in Exodus?

Because they wanted to show the possible impact of the Engineer culture on other engineered subspecies.

K-Theory  I didn't understand the Vatican rip off thing. I think it is cool and also that the reference was deliberate.

Why can't there be a John Denver reference in 2104?

No one said boo! when ripley was murmuring lucky star at the end of alien or dallas listening to ein kleine nacht music in the shuttle.

@Lone,*Blomkamp and Cameron bandwagon rolls again*, yep my friend sure sounds like it.

And what is even the reason for using the John Denver song. In the movie "Contact" the use of a TV image retransmitted by aliens was a clever touch, because that image proved to be something more than just that: it contained encrypted data. In Covenant the transmission is shown twice, just for the hell of it.

Like I said before, I don't want Alien 5 to disregard Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, they're fine Alien films, and I certainly don't want Blomkamp to direct an Alien film after Elysium and Chappie.

Couldn't agree more, Elysium and Chappie were awful.

Lol Lone I'm so beyond butthurt regarding all the hate towards Resurrection that I've become immune to all the hate it gets. It's not perfect but I really like the characters, the new Ripley 8, the soundtrack, the art design, sound design, theyouknowwhat, and the fact that I thoroughly enjoy Resurrection as an entertaining film.

EDIT: *Getsh shlapped by Sean Connery for having shuch terrible opinionsh*

Neomorph  I like Resurrection as well. We had some heated debates about it a few months ago but I am tired of defending it. I like it and if others don't, oh well.

Glad you also like it dk :) I'm more praising it than defending it though.

Neomorph- Understood. I defended it before because I did praise it. Others outright hate it- almost as much as I hate Prometheus.

dk Why do you hate Prometheus. The Juggernaut crash sequence alone is worth the price of admission. And I'm just talking about the visuals, there is nothing of that scale in Covenant, for instance.

dk, yeah even Alien Resurrection is less incoherent than the mess Prometheus and manages to tell a story better as well, regardless of how people find the quality of it. It has better pacing too imo.

joylitt Caveat- David was outstanding. I have to agree that the Juggernaut crash was the crown jewel of the movie- and the cartoonish running inline with the path of the crashing ship really pushed it over the edge.

Well Dk if you think that was cartoonish then you are going to have a field day when you finally get to see Covenant. You get campy moments added to that, like when they ask David how long do storms last on the planet and he says "Daaays... weeeeks... sometime months" in a tone that reminds me of Vincent Price doing a self parody. So many WTF moments....

I am more confident about AC. As David said- As long as it is no worse.

Remember in Prometheus after Vickers torches Holloway? That is the moment when the movie stops making much sense, it is very surreal with Shaw fleeing the medics in a very unconvincing way, with nobody trying to stop her while she performs the surgery, etc. That is the feeling you get  while watching Covenant as soon as the second act kicks in.

joylitt Unfortunately I do remember what you describe. I didn't like Shaw or any one else except David- Vickers and Janick were ok but under utilized IMO. And Weyland would have better if they just got Patrick Stewart and made him up a bit.

way too much use of CGI in this film, yes.

Not sure I could stomach puppets. I think CGI is the lesser evil.

It's taken me awhile to get used to the Hulk being CGI or Groot......But I really can't see a better way.

CGI is 50 years away from being okay...100 years from being great....2017 is only about 10 years from the Avatar breakthrough.
