Decs (Daniel Castillo S.)Alien: Covenant ForumMy "Alien: Covenant" Fanfic

Hey again BigDave! I’m gonna address some of the stuff you said in your later posts; it was super interesting to read all of it!

“In Ridley Scotts Defense he had No Control of how the ALIEN sequels spanned out…”

Yeah that’s always a problem with movie franchises, unless they´re all written and directed by the same people, there´s always gonna be conflicting views and ideas. Also, although I had always given Scott his due credit for the tremendous work he did on the original “Alien”, he did not write the script so for all we know his ideas for sequels could be very different of say the ones that the original writers had.

“Problems came from the reaction to Prometheus, FOX took on board the lack of Answers, No Xenomorphs, and how Fans was not a massive Fan of Dr Shaw or the Engineers.”

Yeah, this is a big problem too… When a studio tries to “correct” a franchise by giving the audience what they think they want, there´s A LOT of stuff that can go wrong, which is what happened with “Alien: Covenant” I think. Like I said earlier, it is IMPOSSIBLE to please everyone, you´re always gonna piss some people off, so the filmmakers are better off doing things they really are invested in and think could make an interesting movie instead of trying to please every fan of the franchise.

“These are the Concepts to the Face Huggers and Victims, Note also the Murals that HR Giger did”

Oh cool, thanks mate! I still think the Space Jockey looks more like a skeleton than a suit but well, “Prometheus” already exists so there´s nothing I can do about it.

“some people read into it too much, and the whole BIBLICAL connections.... “

Yeah I also think that sometimes people read WAY too much into things that weren’t supposed to be scrutinized so much. As of the biblical references, well Ridley Scott is apparently very keen on introducing biblical references on his films (and well, he did a whole movie about one of those biblical stories, “Exodus: Gods and Kings”) so yeah, his films are apparently ridden with them.

“So when we see Ripley having to Sacrifice herself we could have more impact at the LOSS via Hicks, and this would also have left Hicks open to be the Protagonist in any sequel as he would make a VOW that Ripleys Sacrifice was NOT in Vain and he would NOT allow the Company/Mankind to obtain a Xenomorph at any point!”

Hey, that’s a really cool idea, I would have loved if “Alien 3” would have done something like that. I remember seeing the Comic Con Panel on the “Aliens” 30th anniversary and if I remember correctly both James Cameron and Michael Biehn expressed regret that the Hicks character was killed off at the beginning of the third one cause they thought a really interesting and tender relationship could have been developed between them, and I totally agree with that. Your idea reminded me of what they said.

“Special Order 937 would have been a avenue as the Company had some idea about the Xenomorph before the Nostromo Crew had been sent to LV-426.  The Question would be HOW and WHAT did they know“

Yeah, as an “Alien” fan I obviously ALWAYS wanted to know the origin of the Order 937 and how the hell the Company knew about the creatures, and I had hopes that either “Prometheus” or “Alien: Covenant” touched that subject but yeah, no luck on that. I assume Scott was planning to end his prequel trilogy by explaining the origin of that order but seeing that nobody still knows if he´s gonna be given the chance to end the trilogy well, we may never know.

“I think back to your idea... Then it could be something to be explored as far as some ROGUE World...”

Hey, I’m glad my short story stuck on your head and made you think! Well I kinda imagined this rogue world as being like a dark barren place, a place where there shouldn’t be any life but somehow it has, but given how unnatural the environment is then that life must be somewhat unnatural too to survive there. I even imagined the planet (or a part of it) being literally made of xenos… Remember that part in “Aliens” when they get to where all the colonist were and the xenos were like all like hiding in the floor and walls and ceiling, camouflaged in the background? Well something like that but around the whole planet. I guess you could make it a metaphor for hell or something of that sort, that´s why I make the “demon” reference in my story.

“Hi and welcome to the board, it is always nice to see new members because we all have our history in our own ways with the franchise.”

Hey Thoughts_Dreams, thank you! Yeah, I think that too, everyone must have their different stories regarding how they fell in love with the franchise and I’m sure they’re all super interesting.

“I like the poster that you made, well done there.”

Thank you mate! I was very proud of it and it received hundreds of likes and comments on the official “Prometheus” fan page on Facebook, so I was super pissed off when they erased the page when “Alien: Covenant” came out, I didn’t see the need to do that.

“but I like the first three Alien 3 being my favorite”

You know, I actually don’t think “Alien 3” is a bad movie, not at all, I just think it was an underwhelming “Alien” movie. It had memorable and risky moments, the visuals are cool, the concept of the xeno was interesting, some characters were somewhat memorable (although I found most of them forgettable) and well Fincher proved later on that he was indeed an excellent director if the studio lets him do what he actually wants to do, so who knows what might have been if Fox wouldn’t have interfered so much with his vision. I’ve never seen the Assembly Cut of the film (is that what is called?) but I want to, I’ve heard it improves a lot of stuff of the theatrical release.

“Thanks for the short fan story (short should not be seen as criticism), I enjoy it. I like it when people come up with ideas of their own as long as they are not here for self-promotion.”

You´re welcome, glad you enjoyed it!

”Don’t worry about Big Dave, he is smart but he can never write short replies. ;)”

Lol, well I have also been accused of that on occasion so I don’t mind haha.

“DK: I think that he has money but he probably wants control of the franchise that is what I think.”

Who are you referring to here? Who´s DK?

Cheers!

Was all the stuff about the Enginners and the black goo and the gardeners of space just flavour added to the old story?

SuperAlienAlien: Covenant ForumThe Xenomorph was not alien, but created by the Company

It seems to me that Ridley Scott returned to some original concepts from the earlier drafts:

- the space jockey is a human(oid) in a suit

- the bioweapon research facility the engineers had on LV223 is similar to the one the Company built, illustrated by the "Cylinder" above

- the Enginners set their bioweapon research facility on another planet than their home planet (4)

- the Xenomorph is a bioweapon created by the Company (David) and not of alien origin

- the Company purposely re-routed the ship to use the crew as test subjects for their new bioweapon (a little stretch here with the neutrino blast that finally made the crew aware of the signal sent by David - Country roads)

Well, here is a more in your face example of the Juggernaut representing a sexual organ. Who knows?

That is an interesting read how the concept evolved. I wonder if Giger used L-52 as a basic template for the Derelict.

It looks a bit like a nightmarish version.

Unless the sequel to Alien: Covenant is already in the pipe line. Who knows that better than Stacey Snider and Emma Watts?

Too bad. There were lots of possibilities. Now we can wait another 4 or 5 years for another possibility of a teaser trailer. Some might be getting pension checks by then.

I would prefer movies over a series.  I don't know when or what we'll receive for a movie but I'm hopeful.

Yeah, I was never a fan of adapting Alien to TV. It would denature a lot of the authenticity and mythology which made the films so great, imo.

I was watching Alien earlier tonight, my top favorite sci fi movie . I often wonder my self, when Kane goes down . To the eggs in the derelect ship and . The blue mist covering the deadly Alien eggs and , who put it there . Cause wedw all love to know who did? Who was on Lv426, after the people on Covenant . Cause there has to be other members who , lands there . Cause if Ridley Scott is gonna , make more sequels to the franchise . Connecting them up to the original ALIEN , then big pointers like this needs to be answered . Also why in Covenant , is the air breathable and has grass etc and . In Alien it's dark humid , I know the original movie was made 40 years ago . So understandly there was no reason to ask these things , but now PROMETHEUS, COVENANT have been made is prequels . Think there's holes , should be addressed and answered ??

They can do the Colonial Marines any time later. Anybody can do it. About restoring the popularity of the franchise in that way, I have some doubts, The Predator was a total failure at that. We are not in the 90's anymore.

I saw Aliens yesterday - and, yes, it was great. Something like Aliens can restore the popularity of the franchise. Because, surprise(!!!), people love Aliens (disastrous word for adepts of philosophy, lol) and Colonial Marines. If you want to be original - just replace Queen with Engineer.

And get the box office!

Leto Perfecto Cuervo is good old school, just fresh blood for the franchise. He did a good job with talented high school kids and a set made from recycled materials, imagine what he could do with an army of talented actors / set designers / visual effects behind him.

If you care for the franchise, just forget Blomkamp/JC comedians. You want to shoot xenomorphs by tens or hundreds, buy yourself a video game, it will make you feel way better than any Blomkamp/JC film.

Get out of the box!

Blomkamp (with or not Cameron) is the best way. New ideas are the worst path for franchise now. Need good oldschool story.

Just destroy your opinion (ego) and thinks about the benefits for franchise. Prometheus and Covenant are great films, but the benefit for franchise are dubious.

I believe in Disney.

After Ridley Scott I would try somebody totally new to direct an Alien film. And why not Perfecto Cuervo who recently staged Alien: The Play at North Bergen High School?

I think WY was never a villain.

I think only Burke trusts Ripley story. Order to Hadley's Hope is his own initiative.

chliAlien: Covenant ForumAre the Eggs on LV-426 Still There?

Concerning the information about the xenomorph sent by David to W-Y (Advent) in 2104 (18 years before the crew of The Nostromo lands on LV-426), who had access to it and who was behind Special Order 937? Sir Peter Weyland and his daughter Miss Vickers were dead so who was in charge of W-Y?

Apparently, the board of ICC and ECA (Aliens) didn’t know about the xenomorph. W-Y was present at the meeting, represented by Carter Burke, I suppose? Perhaps Hadley’s Hope was an experiment: the colonists were used as guinea pigs? Burke was instructed (by whom?) to give the coordinates (which he had gotten from Ripley) of the alien site to the administrator (Al Simpson).

But didn’t W-Y already know about the Derelict (and the xenomorph)?

I agree that Scott should conclude his trilogy, but with Disney now pulling strings it almost feels unlikely as much as I hate to admit it.

100% agree on Alex Garland. He's been my favorite for years now, pretty much since I first saw Ex Machina. But I'd have to say no to Christopher Nolan. He seems to be in an ultra rare league next to Denis Villaneauve in the fact the dude does not make bad movies, something Ridly Scott, James Cameron, and hell even Stephen Spielberg can't claim. But style wise he's all wrong. He sticks to pg13 ratings, epic budgets, and uplifting emotional impacts.I think if he made an Alien film it wouldn't be terribly dissimilar from Aliens, which isn't a bad thing, but more like been there done that which to be fair is a problem with the franchise in general.

For a movie, it would be fine to use images BDave posted. But how deep in the weeds will people get NOW?

For good or ill, I think a newb producer/director/writer  needs to be signed off and anointed as The One.

There- I said it! Can I go now?

These 2 hybrids, they look too dumb to be scary. It's like a facehugger stumbled upon a mummy and the Mask.

I think the second model is better- it might look even creepier if it had human flesh tone instead of the greenish shade here. It should also make some weird sounding human like noises- almost like it is trying to speak- a bit like the Newborn.

One thing that bothers me about seeing the eye sockets is that there should be eyes in them or else they are kind of pointless.

BigDave there was always the plan to bring the gang back, because JC is behind Blomkamp and most probably they advanced this idea to the studios since at some point even Ridley Scott mentioned the possibility to bring Ripley back.

My opinion is Blomkamp can do as much good to the Alien franchise as Shane Black did to the Predator one. A shameful film everyone wants to forget. If there was a nostalgia trip, it was in Covenant and it was not welcome.

Whoever wants a nostalgia trip should watch again the films already made in the franchise.

For me, bringing back the colonial marines is an uninspired move that will bury the franchise for good. We had soldiers in The Predator, and what? We had marines in Avatar, and what?

I think the way out for the franchise, and I said it before, is to give some brains to the xenomorph, make it an intelligent AI if not an intelligent race. Ridley Scott tried something in this direction when David imprinted on the baby xeno, unfortunately the adult xeno was not cleverer, so David failed at that. But he was curiously observing the xeno on board the Covenant to see where he could have improved it.

The idea of having radiation mutated xenomorphs leads nowhere. That is not how the xenomorph should be different.

Just treat them with respect.

So far only the androids did that.
