Neurion - really interested in the direction of some of your ideas here in relation to the gender aspects of the xenomorph cycle. This is because I have always suspected / felt that the facehugger and xeno were different genders, its not a theory that I have ever fully managed to explain but I always liked the idea. Furthermore, for me the facehugger also represented the male, with the xeno as female (if you want to include the queen in this it still kind of works as the non queens are subservient females) As you entioned, the facehugger always has 'wood' LOL!! But it is true to an extent, its the concept of 'give me a mouth and I will .... it! if you can excuse my crudeness. There are also many examples in nature where the male is smaller and has different characteristics in terms of shape but can be equally or even more aggressive. The sticking point with this theory is that for it to work the the male has to be carrying the very same female embryo that it needs to implant and fertalise within the host. However the fact that we are dealing with a completely exotic species suggests that gender may not be an issue and the the whole cycle is a process, therefore mechanical in its nature. Still, I have always liked the idea of gender.

Herk MondoPrometheus ForumThe 'crash'
Like a few of us say - "who knows for sure?" lol. But it's great to wonder what's happening with the little tif-bits that we do know/have seen. I must say though, I'm not entirely convinced myself that it is the same vessel as found in Alien, or even if it's the same planet - due to the difference in landscape, etc. But again like others have also reasoned - this could be due to some natural event that happens in the time between Prometheus and Alien? But for example - where are all the strange 'rock formations'/growths whatever the heck they were that were dotted all around. It could even be down to artistic licence/differences of ideas between the two movie's production teams. So many possibities lol.

I don't think it's a collision as such, if the Weyland ship hit the 'derelict' both would be reduced to twisted metal. It's more likely from my point of view to be a case of the Weyland ship self-destructing or being destroyed by a weapon from the 'derelict'.

I plan to continue endlessly consume forum pages of us wonderfully geeky members oozing an endless stream of fantastical nonsense about the scraps of almost nothing we know......if you haven't read my thread 'Brain Soup', you ought to....it explains a lot more than even this..............oh, what the hell I'll re post it: "All I keep doing these days is think of 'Prometheus', always 'Prometheus', and I think it's beginning to melt my waking states into a muddled, befuddled mush of messy, brow beaten, sludge pudding that's oozing in and out of every crevice behind my weak, tired, exhaustion riddled eyeballs as they peruse page after page of the same tiny tidbits of scraps of nothing we get for this movie, debating endlessly the ins and outs of things we know little to nothing about along with the comings and goings of actors and actresses under contractual agreement to tell us absolutely nothing while we sift and wait and sift and wait and I'm losing my cotton pickin' mind here over all this stuff I'm obsessed with consuming on this slow and steady march to June with this movie I'm dieing to see, literally dieing a slow and painful death of anticipation in my wooden chair, in front of my computer with everyhting sloshing about upstairs on its way down my throat, through my tearducts, mouth and nose onto my lap.................................................................I hate Brain soup." such is my life these days...

I hate the idea of the alien alien lifeforms being a weapon, it takes some of the mystery out of these scary beings, suddenly they have a purpose... It makes them into something we can process, and also something faintly controllable (even if it's only in the hands of the makers), i really hope they stay mysterious, horrific and uncontrollable, and without any comprehensible purpose.

Slakkers, I do agree. After all, we don´t have a purpose ourselves, also.

"At Comic-Con, Damon Lindelof stated that the film would be keeping as many practical effects as possible." A friend told me that should end the debate about the movie being not being R-rated. Let's hope he is right.

Ash (or Weyland) knowing anything about xenomorphs/SJs/derelicts, etc. is dependant on whether or not anyone makes it back home to Earth in this movie. What with ships apparently exploding and Scott saying that 'they get stranded' maybe Weyland will still be pretty much in the dark.

I disagree Bunny, I feel it is assumed that the company knew everything and had a habit of placing robots whos primary concerns were aligned with the companies on every one of their space missions even those prior to the Nostromos.

@centrosphere: yes that top still from Alien is magnificent. Your 'poetry' remark is bang on with what I'm trying to say. I don't want to see a Star Wars cosmos, I'd like to see as close a proximity to a real starfield and the coldness of vacuum as possible. That picture is very subtle and underplayed and I like that. @visualiser: yes, can't wait to see what that scale will be.

@centrosphere - great images. I also hope that RS keeps the space scenes both realistic and symbolically beautiful.

OzX, you nailed it. I would like to see a beautiful but realistic cosmos; I think "Alien" deserves this treatment. Not the big spinning (sic) galaxies that we can see in some Star Wars "presequels"... Zeta, I understand what you say; my only quest is for realism.

ford doesnt need the money which hopefully means it would be made with a strong story - same as the original. i hope its done right and not another cg reliant venture. there were very little effects in this classic - dont give us an unecessary lukewarm serial!! oh and give us sean young back, one sexy lady right there.

XenophobePrometheus ForumPrometheus' creation mythology compared to another sci-fi classic. . .
Yeah I know there's obviously differences in the premise, I'm not stupid. . . I was stating that both movies share a SIMILAR creation mythology, which evidently they do. Both deal with the creation of life/civilization on Earth and both deal with humans making contact with these creators, with not so good results. Sounds similar to me. . .?? Just cause Stargate the movie dealt more with the militaristic side of things, if you read into the storyline, it's obvious that they share a similar theme overall.

@habidm - agree with the 2001 comparison and the number of similar themes - plus RS has always been a huge fan of that movie. @Samsun - enjoyed the read. Always thought that the Xenomorph in Alien was hyper intelligent... I don't think it was a fluke that it hid away in the Narcissus shuttle when the Self Destruct Warning sounded. I also like your theme that the Xenomorph was co-evolution to adapt to new worlds - it used the host indigenous animal. Not sure aout telepathy, but would not rule it out when it comes to the SJs or Xenomorphs as vastly more evolved species. It has often been supposed that being eyeless they used sonar or equivalent. Perhaps they achieve "telepathy" (non verbal communication and understanding of another's thoughts at a distance) by some other generated electro-magnetic wave... But anyway, am looking forward to RSs take on this.

I'd have to say that a creature that has the ability to evolve to use the most indigenous species on a specific planet, would definitly have to be "created" in some way as that is a far too perfect trait to have for an animal to have in my book. . .

Well, back to Prometheus. . . Just how exactly do you think Ridley Scott will show us the creation of life on Earth, so it's been rumoured??

XenophobePrometheus ForumSeven Little Indians or Ants?
Yeah in Alien, we get an extremely close and intense type movie. Dealing with a crew simply being trapped by a deadly creature, with no way out etc. Prometheus definitly deals with the origins of life, and possibly THAT creature, but with an overriding theme about our creation and origins. I'm just waiting to see just exactly our "end" maybe that the movie's tagline states. . .

I think I am the only person on earth that just flat out disagrees completely that Alien Harvest was even bad a little bit, in fact I thought it was superb and that most of the critics must be homophobic. Either way it was a fake made by a depraved guy so I understad all the hate it got.

Back in the day... This pic is fron the mid 80's. I've been a fan of Giger's art since "Brain Salad Surgery" back in high school. I also SCUBA dive for Pleistocene fossils in area rivers, springs, and off the west coast of FL. So, I've been around bones for along time. This is part of my private collection. In college, I incorporated my knowledge of said bones into my first costume of a "classic" Giger Alien. (If I can slavage a pic, I'll post it).
