ZetaReticuli
MemberOvomorph02/5/2012I have faith that there'll be some staggering deep space scenes
in this film complete with nebulae, clusters, supernovae, etc.
I suspect that could be just one of the key factors where the 3D aspect
will seriously come into play.

MemberOvomorph02/5/2012I disagree.
If you think little more, space is essentially a 2D when moving much less than the speed of light. Why? Because if you move 50 meters left from one spot, the change is horizon/view should be close to unnoticeable. Other thing is that most objects seen in space (stars in this case) are effectively like pixels.
Asteroids should look good though.
I firmly believe that we shall see extremely nice looking spacecraft + SJ pseudo-derelict-ship animations in 3D.
Plus the Action itself should look spectacular under the loving direction of Sir Scott

MemberOvomorph02/5/2012Just one of the stunning visual effects in the film I hope Hukerlover, lol.

Xenophobe
MemberOvomorph02/5/2012@ZetaRetoculi - Yeah even going by the trailer, the space scenes look truely immense! I cannot wait. . .

MemberOvomorph02/5/2012Well...
In fact, AFAIK no movie in the "Alien" franchise EVER had a space scene outside interplanetary space. We have never seen a true interestellar scene _ except maybe you could try to classify the final scenes of "Alien" as one, but I would disagree because it seems that in the "Alien" universe interestellar flight probably only takes place after people go crio. So, little chance to see 3D nebulae, I think...

ZetaReticuli
MemberOvomorph02/5/2012Yeah, cut away from the action (just for a little while) and let the
audience immerse in what the space travellers would experience:
the cold, vast beauty (and terror) of deep space and - linger awhile....
This would set the scene for the truth of how inconceivably far away
they are from home. That would be the start of the terror.....
The opening scenes of Alien came near to that, but the vastness and
isolation of space was felt aboard the sleeping Nostromo rather than
the cold outside itself.

MemberOvomorph02/5/2012Maybe. But look at this:

Pure poetry. A figurative simphony. And think of this:

I think interestellar space is overrated. Planets are the gold and better suited to the human scale. We are planet dwellers! :)

visualizer
MemberOvomorph02/5/2012According to the current official synopsis the journey will be "leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe". Not sure, RS is going for anything "better suited to the human scale" in his choice of surroundings.

ZetaReticuli
MemberOvomorph02/6/2012@centrosphere: yes that top still from Alien is magnificent. Your 'poetry' remark
is bang on with what I'm trying to say. I don't want to see a Star Wars cosmos, I'd
like to see as close a proximity to a real starfield and the coldness of vacuum as
possible. That picture is very subtle and underplayed and I like that.
@visualiser: yes, can't wait to see what that scale will be.

OzX
MemberOvomorph02/6/2012@centrosphere - great images. I also hope that RS keeps the space scenes both realistic and symbolically beautiful.

centrosphere
MemberOvomorph02/6/2012OzX, you nailed it.
I would like to see a beautiful but realistic cosmos; I think "Alien" deserves this treatment. Not the big spinning (sic) galaxies that we can see in some Star Wars "presequels"...
Zeta,
I understand what you say; my only quest is for realism.
