I just posted a comment on the "Prometheus' creation mythology compared to another sci-fi classic. . ." thread and as I was doing so, happened upon a philisophical realization about our little movie hear, a small realization, but interesting..... I'll re-post it hear and so we can think it through, argue and ultimately agree to diagree or pat ourselves on the back in our mutual agreement: ".......but start thinking about this aspect of 'Prometheus'.....remember how Sigourney Weaver referred to the crew of the Nostromo as seven little indians and now picture those little indians in 'Prometheus' as seven to ten ants examining your shoe before you step on them....that what Shaw, Vickers and company are up against...that's the kind of fundamental, visceral and bewildering experience waiting for them." We see capable, calculating, dangerous, even formidable intelligence in the crew of 'Prometheus'....but ultimately, in the face of what they're about to find....they're nothing more than ants....tiny, insignificant little insects....

I don't disagree with any of that. The whole vibe of what's in the trailer, the name of the film, the prospect of a sequel, and the way Ridley has described it all suggests that the humans will eventually take an observer role (probably through Shaw) as a witness to something bigger than their own puny mission. Of course we probably won't see the bigger story until the sequel, but hopefully we'll know it's there!

Yeah in Alien, we get an extremely close and intense type movie. Dealing with a crew simply being trapped by a deadly creature, with no way out etc. Prometheus definitly deals with the origins of life, and possibly THAT creature, but with an overriding theme about our creation and origins. I'm just waiting to see just exactly our "end" maybe that the movie's tagline states. . .
