Thank you BioMechanic for finding a much gentler way to say what I wanted to, I am NOT the most articulate guy in the world among other things i am truly not good at, but one thing I am good at is spotting a true Leader, and that's what this guy had to be to make that post, it took balls and more than that, he's right, something like this, whether it be an Alien Raping a Man, a woman or another living thing, is a terrifying idea. Hmmm didn't know that but then again with Giger it's hard to know where creatures begin and where they end. Knew about the top one though. Wonder if we will see something like the guy the alien is riding.. errr pierceing with her boobs... errr playing "I got your nose" with in Prometheus.

I've always thought, Giger has to be a bit weird or sick to paint such things but at the same time it takes Guts and super duper Intelligence not just to let your raw thoughts come out like that but to actually be able to do it at all, so I have always wondered what he would want me to understand about him for having painted his paintings, does he want me to feel provoked or intimidated or scared or sexually excited or what? was he just painting the first nightmare he had that he could remember? And how do you even do that?

The first alien film already has a rape scene.

Clearly the Alien movie and associated art has sexual overtones. A rape scene will not ruin the movie if is used as a way to explain the life cycle of this biomechanical whatever, or as a way to illustrate how unimportant humans are to our creators. These themes have bearing on the whole concept. However, hoping to see someone getting raped, and or enjoying it in any way says something about YOU specifically. Period. Nothing to discuss. Such thoughts are at best sociopathic. Geiger might get off on such thoughts. I don't know. Geiger may fear being raped, or be influenced by some horrible life experience. His art is disturbing, which is why it was used to create something scary. Geiger might be a little "off". It's not my place to judge but he's probably not posting his love of rape scenes on the Internet. I believe Ridley Scott was scared by it. I hope he was disturbed by it. He wanted to disturb other people with it. If he honestly gets off on rape, and is simply using the alien life cycle to express it, he should seek help. Again my guess is, he's terrified of it. I have my own fears. I have weird dreams and thoughts that I'd proabaly never share because they terrify and disturb me. Scott chose to make a story about a scary concept of his inner psyche. That's what I'll hope for, and I'll hope that rape in this movie is implied more than graphic. Either way I won't enjoy it.

CGI is overused. I'm liking the sound of this.

@ArchEtech, Yes, I like it when they bring back the glory days.. real sets, real planets, real... whatever else...

@Frantz A movie with the tagline "The Search For Our Beginning Could Lead To Our End" hopefully isn´t settling for the basic "things-that-jump-at-you-from-the-dark" approach, when it comes to thrilling its audience. If so, Ridley Scotts sci-fi grandeur ambition and the apocalyptic premise are surely misplaced. Sure, the trailer focuses on moments suspense and action, but trailers sometimes convey a different feeling and atmosphere than the movie itself, and just because the movie contains horror and action, it doesn´t necessarily mean, that the movies main focus is horror and action. My point is, that although we´ll probably see plenty of heart pounding action and intense horror, the primary focus is shaking us through a provoking theory about the creation of mankind. The visuals we have seen so far, doesn´t exactly ooze dirty, gritty Nostromo atmosphere with "real people" experiencing Alien-terror IMO. Quote from interview with Ridley Scott: [i]While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative.[/i]

'Truckers in space' was the idea for the look/feel of the crew & environments of the Nostromo in Alien. I doubt it will be the same with Prometheus. But I'm sure we will get the same claustrophobic feel from the interiors of space craft.

Part of the reason for this realistic feel to alien was the set designs I believe. It really felt like plausible or familiar surroundings indeed (very industrial). It is just like working on a sea going vessel for example, or a refinery, but in space. The "hospital" scene in the trailer does feel very familiar though.

In my opinion the feel of the original was due largely to the characters, they were everyday working joe's who were easy to relate to, they spoke and acted like real people. Prometheus' characters will probably be more of the stodgy scientist type and less likeable. But the characters were what made Alien so unique, they were just ordinary people who where put into extraordinary circumstances that they were totally unprepared to deal with & that movie was not really about the alien, but more about how the characters dealt with it.

@RickK Remember there are Mercenary characters and various Techie types which I am sure would add the necessary colors to the whole movie

For me the original had nothing to do with characters, the scenes, directions or anything else like that. I saw the move 30 years ago when I was not even 10. It was my imagination that made it so real. That ability as a child to place yourself in the film. It would be unfare to require that same type of feeling today. I still get chills watching Alien, but no where near the nightmares (I secretly relished) I had as a child. For those that claim that Prometheus does not have that same feel. Ask yourself these questions: 1. How old were you when you first saw Alien? 2. Did you watch previews of Alien for months prior to watching the film? 3. How many years have passed since you first saw Alien and today? 4. What would a child under 10 today feel about Prometheus? Again this is all from my experience and perspective, but when I try to look at Prometheus with that understanding... I feels real to me.

Yeah it's so great how the symbol resembles Weyland-Yutani's winged globe. I've been thinking about this idea too. I wonder if the "Watchers" of ancient Indian mythology and elsewhere, or what seems like our idea of the typical grey alien (the Sumerian mythology had another name for them) could be in this movie also if it's sticking that close to some of these ancient myths. It could be possible with the more typical looking flying saucer design of that one craft in the trailer.

Biomechanic, no i didn`t write that, and it is also very nice find of an article, very interesting, i gonna find some more information. So maybe even plot of the movie and the character of engineers will be close bound to the mythology of the Sumeria and Annunaki

Engr101 has identified something important: the protruding "fingers" on one of the ship's horns. Now when the ship comes to rest, the horn with the fingers is at the front. Now let's take the theory that the ship made landfall upside down and rolled back upright. But surely the impact would have crushed the fingers of the horn, yet they appear pristine. I'm not so sure anymore about the horns-first crashing, which leads me to reconsider the background "building" as another object.

The background piece seems to be moving/rolling with the front piece. It's difficult to accept that this is the same derelict ship that crash-landed -flat- in 1979's ALIEN (see below). If you sloooo-mo the trailer you can see the back section rotating together with the front part that hits the ground, proving its part of the ship. It's the part of the ship that's in the centre of this Alien photo - you see the small section that sticks out on the right hand side top corner of the front bit? you can see that on the side of the rear section of the ship in the trailer... You can see the base of one of those "fingers" in the first shot that Engr101 posted. It's just above the the pointed rock on the far left of that shot. Biomechanic, the "fin" on your model is reversed from its' actual position. It should be on the bottom side of the ship. (look at the model in the shot Krak Fox posted ) You can actually see it in the trailer, several frames before the one Engr101 provided. If the ship was landing on its' "rounded" end, we would be able to see some of that structure in the shot above. Starbeast, we would expect [i]the entire ship[/i] to be crumpling up and collapsing like an aluminum can from an impact like this. The fact that it doesn't, indicates that the SJ ship employs construction techniques and technologies beyond our understanding.

The fin is correct there is both a small upper fin and a longer bottom one you don't see in my animation. Giger's derelict off which this model was constructed is different slightly from what we see in the trailer though. Their could be fingers like that on the jutting tube on the far side. We never see that side plainly. I think it could look like what is planted first.
