very interesting Bio ...can be that the model of the first animation remain a few seconds in the "horns up" position and then fall on a side ( quite realistic ) ?
ReplyKrak FoxPrometheus ForumENGINEERS' TEMPLEJan 12, 2012
Some things to help clear this up.
start by looking at the shot of the mid air explosion - you can clearly tell the ship is rotating as it falls.
Here's a shot of it just after impact:

I've marked the impact point in red - it looks like it's on a slight bank and judging by how far it's rolled by the time this shot has been taken, it looks like the initial impact was on the ships left 'arm'. Comparing the way it impacts on it's left arm with it's orientation in the explosion shot - it's clear that it's done a approx 720 rotation from the explosion in the sky to the impact on the ground.
The ship then roles down the slight decline onto it's back (the bit with the famous 3 openings in), on to it's right hand 'arm', it's back section then goes over the top. Q this image (the so called 'temple' image):

Here's a shot that matches the red lines so you can tell what part of the ship you're looking at above:

Note how the arrow shows the point of view.
The ship the slows it's rotation and settles with it's arms in the air - the shot with Shaw
looking up at it..
This should help Bio do a very accurate animation - starting from it's mid air orientation?

Some really compelling arguments here. Must give credit to how the points have been conveyed and put across so well - I've changed my mind three times in quick succession!

That derelict ship which breaks every aerodynamic rule in craft design is not really a ship. It is a living but dormant organism, kinda like a fly-trapping carnivorous plant (see below). The Nostromo crew inadvertently walked into its trap.

Of course, Ridley has a different idea: the ship is a biological weapon bomber. Then again, he could be leading us through misdirections in a project shrouded with so much secrecy.

I do agree with you. I think it is Shaw screaming please!! in the trailer and every since it came out i was wondering what could be happening to her. I thought maybe she was giving birth to an alien but now that i think about it the scene at 0.42 when she falls to the floor. I really do think she gets raped!
ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumActual Rape in Prometheus????Jan 12, 2012
There was a link in one of the other threads to an earlier draft of the eventual official trailer (added either by Theusprom, Snorkelbottom, Spartacus, or Biomechanic) . And in that version there are 2 clips that didn't make the final cut but were tantalising. The first involved some thing bursting out of something else - similar to a facehugger bursting out of an egg but it's difficult to make out in the pirate copy what. The other clip is more clear: it's of a human stomach which seems to inflate in real time to what seems like a pregnant state. This for me is conclusive that there is some kind of impregnation and "birth" that will be depicted in the film.
EDIT: found the link! Again, credit goes to one of the other guys, I'm just a messenger....

So if Shaw is pregnant - wtf does she give birth to?
ReplyBellaisanAlienPrometheus ForumActual Rape in Prometheus????Jan 12, 2012
I'm thinking there is a lot more in the sand storm scene, it looks as is one APV is left behind possibly when someone is injured (the acid burnt helmet). I'm thinking Shaw is swept up by the wind after the injured crew member is returned, she is taken back to the temple and impregnated then makes her way back in the second APV. What she gives birth to is anyones guess....... An early version of xeno / an Engineer???? Must be a good weight for all that blood.................. glad to be a man :)
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumActual Rape in Prometheus????Jan 12, 2012
I don't think Shaw does get raped. I base my opinion not on the possibilities in Prometheus' plot, but in the actress herself. Noomi Rapace is well known for starring in the original Girl With A Dragon Tattoo trilogy, in which I think she plays a rape victim (or similar), so I think herself as an actress and Ridley Scott as a director would want to avoid typecasting. I say this because it seems the rest of the cast are playing roles they've never really played before.
ReplyEGR101Prometheus ForumActual Rape in Prometheus????Jan 12, 2012
I won't be surprised if there are scenes of implied (or explicit) violations of some sort in the new movie. Look at all these insane images done by Giger. And Ridley did mention "uncivilized behavior"

ReplyJeffomorphPrometheus ForumActual Rape in Prometheus????Jan 12, 2012
I have my doubts on the whole rape/forced impregnation myself.
But..
We are pretty sure shaw becomes pregnant. The early leaked trailer shows an abdomen distending, and there was a picture from the leaked comic con footage showing a control screen with a figure of a woman and the word "ABDOMINAL" on the screen. I've also seen a picture of shaw on an exam table.
We know something happens to Holloway in the movie. He gets infected/exposed at some point. It might even be him who becomes the mutating guy.
We know that Shaw and Holloway have a relationship in the movie.
My theory is Shaw and Holloway have a consensual encounter after his initial exposure, and she becomes pregnant from that.
ReplyMembranePrometheus ForumActual Rape in Prometheus????Jan 12, 2012
An impregnation theory (if true) would be a HUGE part of the story. Then, whether it is by rape or consensual would also be a HUGE part of the story because, as we can all agree, rape is a horrible, violent act and would drastically shape how the audience feels about the impregnation in comparison to how they would feel if it were consensual.
With that in mind, I think the rating discussion is something to consider...
There was talk of Fox wanting a PG-13 rating and Scott said he has a responsibility to the studio, but he always makes sure to have two options and the decision on which one to show in theaters would be made later. A PG-13 rating will most likely not have a rape scene (or even an allusion to one) whereas an R rating could. Making two different versions (rape vs. consensual) which would change the feel so much... well, I'm not so sure Scott would want that. In other words, I think the impregnation (again, if this assumption is correct) is a part of Prometheus, then you pick the option that allows for PG-13 or R, so as not to change the feel/narrative between a theatrical release and a director's cut.
But then again, in Blade Runner, when Dekkard's voice-over was removed for Scott's cut, it changed the feel/narrative of that movie drastically as well (for the better, in my opinion).

Why not? Sucker Punch had obvious rape/prostitution scenes with under age girls alluded to in it and it had a PG-13 rating.

You don't need to see it to understand that if other movies have already been down this road with a PG-13 rating then why would Prometheus have an R rating for the same topic.

I've got similar views 'Krak Fox'. My idea is that the evidence they find on Earth infects and starts to slowly change the guy we are seeing in the wheel chair. From the infection he mysteriously knows of the Engineers temple location.
I'm tending to think the other mutation (helmet guy) is an early form or originator of the xeno; perhaps what ever he eventually mutates into will lay eggs and lead to the film ALIEN.
I'm going with your idea though but think that Shaw will have a baby which will grow into the giant blue Engineer that is operating the chair.
ReplyxFTxPrometheus ForumWhat I think will happen in the movie....Jan 12, 2012
Two things from trailers that support this view ...
1) In the Teaser Trailer part 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vD7Z-CTbbKk
at about 8-10 seconds we see what looks like 'the mutated man' growing about a foott in height like his legs are extending. And as we know engineers are 'tall' so the human mutates into an engineer theory seems viable.
and 2) the ommisson of the belly inflating, which was in the original minute long trailer. but not in the new "full length" trailer ... tell tale sign that this is a key part of the plot?
for my money The Mutated Man is Elizabeth Shaws love interest and he rapes or sleeps with her after his infection and she gives birth to something or someone ?
ReplyEGR101Prometheus ForumWhat I think will happen in the movie....Jan 12, 2012
While I appreciate Krak Fox sharing his idea for the plot, I feel that PROMETHEUS will be bigger and more action-oriented than that. With the success of hard core sci fi action movies like AVATAR & the very enjoyable PLANET OF APES movie, 20th Century Fox would want to have repeat business. There are mercenary characters in the movie which I guarantee translate into action scenes. I think there will be clashes between human & infected humans, humans vs aliens/SJ. There are frequently speculated scenes of "uncivilized behavior" which is going to be something we have never seen before. They will not re-visit the successful ALIEN franchise without the action angle.

Engr101 - I know what you mean - I'm just summing up without going into the nitty gritty details and have missed out a lot of the A to B stuff to in order to get across the backbone of the story. How many action scenes, fights, uncivilised behaviour etc there will be is by the by - i just wanted to put across an overall basic premise of the movie : )
ReplyJeffomorphPrometheus ForumWhat I think will happen in the movie....Jan 12, 2012
Thanks for posting that Krak. It's always interesting to read other peoples opinions. This is definately one of the better forums when it comes to quality speculation :)
I've had the same thought about the Engineers and/or Jockeys being a dead species that gets revived by the humans in the movie. But, I'm not sure "dead species" is even correct, and I'm not sure being revived/reborn is even accidental from the Engineers point of view. This might be the Engineers way of being immortal of sorts and waiting out the Aeons while their creations evolve.
A couple thoughts.
Engineer creates life on a large number of planets, and leaves some breadcrumbs behind. Once a creation evolves intellectually and technologically enough to discover the breadcrumb, that civilization is ripe enough to be harvested.
Perhaps the Engineer awaits in a stasis chamber seen in the cockpit room to be awakened by curious creations? Or, like you said, the Engineer has a trap setup in his temple where any species finding it gets mutated and becomes the Engineer. Throw in some type of genetic memory, and the Engineer is basically resurrected.
I don't think the Engineer is part of a civilization. I think he is the last of his kind or one of a kind due to his resurrection method. I think the space jockeys are also his creation and his servants. He might be going to earth to crete servants instead of creating more of his kind.
ReplyRickKPrometheus ForumWhat I think will happen in the movie....Jan 12, 2012
I always figured the space jockey's chair looked too much like a gun to be anything else... and I was also beginning to wonder why he would need to wear an "environment suit" when sitting in the chair - unless the chamber would open up to be exposed to space. When I add these things up with the fact that these new urns or specimen capsules look pretty aerodynamic in shape - well, I'm wondering if the mechanism is some sort of delivery system used to seed worlds or maybe used as a biological weapon by shooting these urns into a planet they want to wipe out causing widespread planetary infestation. Probably not but you know, I always say if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

we did talk alot about that of course ...
1) the mohawk mutated guy seems that hes "raised" by something ...captured ... i dont see signals hes growing ...the movement of the body is of someone that is raised by something or someone
2) there are various theories about IF the belly growing is of Rapace ( probably yes ) and how she got infected ( probably a sexual night with her bf or a previous pregnancy ?) ...but everyone here have his own theories .
ReplyEGR101Prometheus Forum2 things from the trailers that don't seem to be mentioned at allJan 12, 2012
Very possible. Also, we are left with very little to speculate with a short teaser from 20th Century Fox. I read from another blog that the "uncivilized behavior" Ridley mentioned in his cryptic interviews may refer to human-alien orgy. On top of that you have Damon Lindelof, the writer of time-travelling quasi-sci fi TV series LOST which contains at least 5 sub-plots spanning 3 generations of characters with mind-boggling James Bond-ish global conspiracies across 5 to 6 different countries, brought after the later part of the film development obviously to expand the ALIEN universe. So the movie you think you know may "mutate" into something else. Fox is probably thinking of a possible new franchise. Hence, the necessity of creating a bigger mythology for the series. I just hope it doesn't dove tail into X-FILES, lol !!!

no no please ...alien-human orgies can happen in a universe far far away from SIR Ridley Scott ...there was mention in a FAKE plot ...and there was some homosexual intercourses ( that was put as some sort of a rape and not normal relationships ) in a FAKE spahis harvester script .

@Engr - yeah seems possible - I think big studios hand over a big budget with the plans to create a franchise - hopefully if thats the case then let it stay in the Alien-Alien3 vein and not the AVP nonsense. I just hope Prometheus has that 'in space no one can hear you scream' isolation that the first and to a lesser extent second and third movies had.

You know Rapace could have been assaulted by the guy half way through his mutation resulting in something unexpected, a facehugger, baby xeno, some weird hybrid, I don't know. That could be the uncivilized behavior he was refering to.
I really think the xeno did something or attempted to do something with Lambert. If you recall in the movie she was fully clothed then the cut scene back to her and Parker. She has no shoes, socks and no pants on and she's hanging. Tie that in with the Sound FX of her panting and then a final scream sends shivers down your spine.
Laters,
Rick
