What I hear and there's no guarantee that this is all being said at the same point in the movie... "You don't understand." being whispered Something is said that I can't make out (maybe another "Prometheus!" or something altogether different?) "Prometheus! Prometheus!" "I was wrong." "We were so wrong." "I'm so sorry." kind of crying/sobbing

I thought I heard, 'Prometheus, come in, Prometheus'. But maybe that's because I assumed it was Rapace trying to contact Prometheus on her radio.

Wouldn't it be great if someone posted the audio in clips and slowed them down and boosted the voice frequency range to analyze them.

db73... that's what I thought I heard to... but I too was assuming someone was trying to contact Prometheus. I thought I also heard "You have to...". It's just too difficult to pick up that piece of audio without doing some work on it like Biomechanic mentioned.

Also, whose voice corresponds to which line? The first line: "You don't understand.." sounds like Noomi's. The next lines: "We were wrong. It was so wrong!" sounds like Charlize's. It sounds like Charlize again who speaks the "Sorry" line. An apologetic corporate entity? A first in the Alien franchise, yes? Does Noomi look a lot like Sigourney in that upside down shot..?

IMO--The big question marks in the voices. Initially the first part sounded like "He is coming" But more than likely I think she is saying "Promethues come in" which makes more sense. I have read three plausible thoughts for the other question mark area. 1) You don't have to stop. 2) You have got to stop. 3) You don't understand. My money is on #2 You have got to stop. I am definately hearing more of an STOP sound than a STAND sound. #1 doesn't make much sense unless it's a Shaw & Holloway encounter like the bed scene in the trailer... If you catch my drift.

@Biomechanic, thanks for the audio! I've been listening to it for ages... Potential SPOILER ALERT!... Here's what I think: I do not think the words are "It was wrong! It was ..so wrong!" but actually, in my honest-to-god/engineer opinion, I do believe the words to be "[i]I[/i] was what we found! It was so wrong!" Thanks to Biomechanics audio, I'm pretty confident on the "...what we found! It was so wrong!" bit, but it's just the beginning of that piece I'm only about 90 percent on, the "[i]I[/i] was..." bit. To my ear it does sound like "I was..." but perhaps it is "It was...", as in "It was what we found! It was so wrong!" What do you guys think???!!! Am I just going mad, lol? EDIT: Imagine the implications of "I was what we found", with respect to faster-than-light travel, which allows time-travel etc. Though the more straight-forward plotline would suggest "It was what we found". Occam's Razor.

How about if this message is the SOS/WARNING in Alien, we hear it as she is saying it at the end of the Prometheus Movie. She is using the Alien Technology to transmit this and it gets digitized into 1's and 0's, Nostromo is unable to fully decode it. Prometheus is lost and the crew is unheard from again back on earth. Weylan and the government cover up the ordeal of the lost crew, So the Nostromo Crew never hears about or is aware of the Prometheus ever existing in the first place. Sorry went on a bit of a tangent.

I too have thought that's a possibility - the transmission at the beginning of Alien is the transmission at the end of Prometheus, distorted.

Prometheus brought fire of knowledge to humans. But do we really want to accept?

@Mentos - Well actually another member 'Mal'akak' talked about it earlier in a post. But when i read the article there was that bit about the jockey mask to fit one of the actors i thought it was really big news so i just added that. But its a good read isnt it. We talked a lot about the Jockey on the discussion forum so wanted to see what people made of this!

This is very bizarre. In the very first ALIEN movie, I always thought the "tube" is part of breathing apparatus. Now this looks like a trunk of the Elephant Man.

@Mentos - Especially just under the snout part. The lower lip is just like an elephants. But above the lower lip if you look at the trunk and it goes up behind the head, it kinda looks like half a mask on a skull of a human. Sort of!

Engr101, me too! When I've watched Alien ( all 100 and something times!) I just thought it was so the Jockey could breath. I really do feel now that the debate is over, this film is going to be about our origins and the Jockeys involvement in that. The film is going to deal with big questions about humanity, very much in the way Bladerunner did but still have the same feel and atmosphere as the sci fi horror Alien.

But if you do look at the masks it does look like a sort of breathing apparatus. The trunk would lead up into the nose. And it sort of looks like half a mask covering a skull. Even space for ears.

Well, if you want to expand Giger's idea of bio-mechanical, our nose, and elephant's, are actually bio-mechanical breathing apparatus. Our body is kinda a mini bio-mechanical power plant. We ingest plant matter to nourish and provide energy to our cells, and we expel gaseous waste through a "pipe." We are not that different from David the Android. Except for our empathy, and obsessive-compulsive behavior. Like hanging out in this forum for too long

The Space Jockey's are basically giant humans. The mask you see, and the "alien" you see sitting in the chair in the first Alien is actually a biological environment suit.

@BellaisanAlien - Thanks for adding the pictures to the discussion! Great pics....... @RickK - I think your right. It seems to be definately going that way.....

You can see one of the giant "space jockeys" without thier suit on in the trailer for just a split second - in the scene where the famous chair is coming up out of the floor, pause your media player and look to the right.

@RickK Ahemm...do we actually know for a fact, that the big guy to the right is a Space Jockey?

@RickK - Yeah i saw that bit in the trailer. There was a big discussion about that. People were wondering if this was the Space Jockey or Engineer or Creator! At this point so early out from the release of the film its hard to know who is who.

The answer is yes to all three. You'll see :)

He looks quite biomechanic in this enlarged still - he definately fits the surroundings, so theres is probably a good chance that he fits the chair too. He also looks like a kind of idealized human being with his sculptural appearance and streamlined features. But does that make him a supposed engineer, the higher being that "steals the fire" or a god/creator? I hated the nosferau-like apperance at first, but the more I look at him, the more disturbing he becomes. (Hope my sentences don´t read like Yoda - english is not my native language).

Right now no one know what he/it is ... can be - a mutated human - a space jockey - a third race - an android of some kind - a Human mutating into something else - the famous cocooned man

Another clue to keep in mind is Dallas' observation in the original movie that the space jockey appeared to be "growing out of the chair". Think this could mean the biomechanical environment suit is part of the chair and envelops the user or maybe the organic materials of the suit keep growing even after the user dies?

First day the trailer came out I'd seen this, if you freeze (pause) the trailer at about .34 seconds in you will see this head coming on a conveyor into the room.

There is a foundamental difference that make impossible to link the two movies ... "Android, bio-synthesis, terraforming, pyramid, origin of life" are used in Blade Runner to raise deep and painful questions about what we are ....the villans did lead you to deep questions . "Android, bio-synthesis, terraforming, pyramid, origin of life" were used in Alien and in Prometheus to support the story and the enterteinment ... the deep questions here will lead you to the villans . So are to me two totally different movies and aims .

Yes,...And blade runner i based on a book called "do androids dream of electric sheep" by Philip K Dicks. Alien is based on a script by Dan o bannon. Two different storys.

They raise similar ideas and concepts, but a realized in a different story line. I don't think it's an accident that they share directors.

There are so many similar thematic explorations between BLADE RUNNER & ALIEN that they are almost part of an expanded universe: the omnipotence of mega corporations, genetic engineering, bio-synthesis, quest for truth of origin. Don't you think modern day corporations are so gargantuan monstrosities with intersecting interests that they have become more powerful than a country.

Oh forgot to say the mutations I believe are some sort of advanced process of changing a human into a fully grown Engineer, so that the Engineer can fly the ship to Earth to re-propogate the Engineer race................
