It's quite the first theory that saw the day, SJs would have created the humans, then they would use them to breed the aliens and use them as bio weapons on other planets.
ReplyCervantesPrometheus ForumHumans created specifically to later be 'bred' with the Aliens? Jan 8, 2012
I quite like this theory...but since Ridley seems to want to veer away from too much (if any) imagery of the very familiar 'human-xenomorph' hybrid, then I'm not sure this will be his angle. Interesting notion though.

ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumHumans created specifically to later be 'bred' with the Aliens? Jan 8, 2012
1) the Sjs created humans to be hosts ..and they failed ...
2)their megaweapon tried to kill a woman and a cat ..and failed ...
3)but the SJ was killed by his won megaweapon ....
4)and sent a warning signal that no one of his race received ...
5) their race is almost extinct now ( with no surprises )
6) the get fused when they sit on a chair
7) they have an exoskeleton with a stopid trunk ...
8) they did made dangerous eggs without a lock
Can be that the Space Jockey will be played by Rowan Atkinson ?

As mentioned before on my posts I believe that humans are just one among many races that are summoned to come back to the origin planet as soon as they develop enough technology to do so. Not only that, I believe that SJs were one of those races: a race that has come to the origin planet thousands or millions of years ago with the same purpose (all the races would have been engineered by still another race).
ReplySubterraneanHomesickPrometheus ForumHumans created specifically to later be 'bred' with the Aliens? Jan 8, 2012
Additionally, I believe (speculate) that we will understand by the end of Prometheus that the crashed derelict on Alien was the outcome of the SJs trying to steal the technology of "The Gods" a long time ago. This understanding should come only implicitly in Prometheus through watching what happens to the Humans when they try to do the same. (This would comply with the perspective that Prometheus is not a direct prequel but refers to some of the elements in Alien)

Ever consider that the pilot of the Derelict was pregnant with a xenoparacite when they got in the chair. Perhaps there is no facehugger in the lifecycle when one is infected by a form of cellular engineering nanites. It adapts to the reproductive system of it's host and creates a hybrid embryo. Easier when the victiim is a female of a species that shares our reproductive cycle but where there is a will there is a way.

I Have not seen this film....But like him though, A Heck Of A Lot, I have most of if not all of his films and he has made some kick butt films in his career.
One of my all time favorite films as well
a sleepy little 70's B-Type Horror movie with Kirk Douglas and John Cassavettes with a really fun ending that had many many elements to it that blew my mind and still do today, 30+ years later called...
"The Fury" !!!

...and yet another i absolutely loved and starring John Travolta no less called...
"Blowout" !!!
...about a sound effects film maker/contributor who accidently records a murder involving a Hooker and the vice president of the United States.

He also IMO made one of the Single Best Horror films EVER MADE and which is still being copied by many many directors, which he based on his love of and made as a secret tribute to Alfred Hitchcock and which has influenced 3 entire generations of film makers entitled...
"Dressed To Kill"

I didn't mind mission to Mars. I've watched it on cable a few times, and can definately say that I've seen worse.
The idea of humans/life being created and placed on earth is nothing new. Heck if you look at the bible (without getting all metaphysical), it basically states that a being created life and plunked it down on this rock. The idea has been done over and over, so I can't credit Mission to Mars as something unique that Prometheus is going to barrow from.
Now a common theme in these types of stories is that "creators" are really awesome beings that are happy to see us and treat us like their children. I'm really hoping Prometheus does a complete 180 on this idea.
I really like the idea of beings creating us with ill intentions, and they lose track of us over the Aeons.

Hi Vanilla-H,
I can see what you’re talkin’ about…with MISSION TO MARS. There are some similar elements in that film, that stem from the same root concepts as what we’re hearing will be in PROMETHEUS. Now, having said that…personally, I would venture to guess that the PROMETHEUS filmmakers never even considered the de Palma’s picture when hatching its storyline. The concepts are common enough in Science fiction writing…as not to warrant or require further inspirational seeds for ideas…but it is possible.
Personally, I thought that M2M was a very weak film. I found myself yawning with apathy while watching it. Being a de Palma flick, I was hoping it would flip, and the extraterrestrials would go all wicked and insidious on us…but alas it went all “Leave it to Beaver” and safe. I ended up enjoying the movie RED PLANET (which was released the same year I think) much more.
Peace

De Palma is a very good director but he definitely wears his influences on his sleeves. Dressed to Kill was inspired just as much (if not more) by Italian "Giallo" films as much as it was Hitchcock. In fact it is considered an American "Giallo" down to nearly every detail including plot, set up and reveal (using many of the giallo devices such as the black gloves on the killers hands, the lift scene). Pino Dinaggio also did the score and along with Morricone, Ortolani , Paisano and Frizzi......was well known for his Giallo scores.
"Blowout" is a pseudo -remake of Michelangelo Antonioni's "Blow Up". Which starred David Hemmings.....who later starred in what is considered among many, the best Giallo made. Dario Argentos "Deep Red" or "Profondo Rosso"

I agree with Neurion. IMO, "Red Planet" > "Mission to Mars." M2M was too heavy with melodramatic cheese; especially the alien design. It looked as if they'd lifted it straight out of a Pixar movie...............definitely not among De Palma's best work.

Yeah Mission to Mars does make an effort to demonstrate a plausible implementation of artificial gravity, but 2001: A Space Odyssey already did that more than 50 years ago.
If Prometheus involves "faster-than-light" space travel then we can probably also take artificial gravity for granted too.
As Neurion has already pointed out, the Mission to Mars plot is not original and likely was in no way an inspiration for Prometheus. In fact, Mission to Mars steals ideas from James Cameron's The Abyss - but that's another thread.
Partial inspiration for Prometheus was the work of Erich Von Daniken who was a proponent of the "Ancient Astronaut" theory, which basically states that life on Earth was seeded by aliens in Earth's prehistory. In fact, Sir Ridley has already confirmed this in some of his interviews about Prometheus - I'll update this post if I can find a link.

The concept of the movie was pretty cool but omg that movie was just too painful to sit through Don Cheadle was so funny though when he made hos appearance. This just adds to the mystery of this movie. If the Gods/Engineers were our supposed creators why would they need to re-create a human for experimentation. This maybe part of the SJ after the stealing of "fire". Maybe they create a human to find what our weaknesses are?

Perhaps there is a connection between the goo and the space jockey suit and the creation of the eggs? Oh ya, and the Facehuggers. That connection being like a Pandoras Box, eventually bringing oblivion....it is designed to be a weapon by the aliens. What I'm not sure about is, if this technology is to create new worlds from old worlds by first destroying them or to create new worlds by reorganizing matter or just out of nothing? As far as humans are concerned? are they part of the equation, or space jockeys created humans to serve them in some fashion other than to be hosts in a sexual life cycle? Or do we go back to the original story of two different alien civilizations and humans? SO many Mysteries....I admit I would like to see entire worlds morphed into Biomechanically engineered habitats for a whole new universe of aliens and creatures. Then....it's time for some Star Craft! Give me one of those repeater laser pulse rifle Vaporizers and hook up to it's snorkle. Like a snake that eats it's tale the search for our beginning leads to our end, being digested over and over again, cocooned in it's intestine> space marines ROCK! chained that Prometheus be! There may be some similarities, but probably only in terms of what Halo borrowed from other sources.
I read a rumor the other day (only read it in one place, so not really what I'd call a "rumor", maybe just a "theory") that the film would borrow elements from HP Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness", which is more or less about an ancient civilization that was wiped out by their own creations. But one or two specimens still survive to be reawakened by our intrepid heroes. A very interesting take, and one that I may attempt to put together myself at some point, depending on how Prometheus comes out.
I just hope you're wrong about time travel.. I've read that (thankfully) fake synopsis that goes on about time travel and such. I don't think this series needs that, and it would be quite a cop-out to see them go that way, I think. We do have some confirmation of "beginning of time" stuff, but I gather that's mostly flashback kind of stuff.. seeing what the SJs did on Earth a million years ago, then jumping ahead to today.
First post, by the way, glad to be here! Seems to be some slightly more intelligent conversation about the franchise here compared to what I've seen on other forums.

Jockey2016, I agree with you. I hope that there is no time travel in this movie. If it is by a wormhole than maybe I could live with that. I would cringe a little. I would be totally appalled if it was time travel based on human technology. That would throw ALIEN out of whack in sorts. I mean if WY had that technology at their feet then they could have deployed mission after mission until they secured the Xeno after the previous failures. I really hope time travels is not anything RS would toy with!

Replysg123Prometheus ForumPlot thoughts on cocooned man and overallJan 8, 2012
I'm thinking that the jockey ship was old and was on a predetermined path to this planet and along the way aliens broke loose. It takes them thousands of years to reach this planet...hence why in alien the crew finds the jockey "fossilized" The planet was probably a long ago base of operation for the jockey's. Which may explain why the ship breaks apart in the trailer cuz it enters the atmosphere with no one to pilot it.
Its obvious that some how the jockey's had some kind of role in creating humans. and maybe created other intelligent life too. And the xenomorphs are created by the jockey's as the option to exterminate the humans they created should they feel the need to. or maybe the aliens are more of a universal intelligent species bio weapon. but It seems too perfect for the aliens to breed with and eradicate humans to not be created to wipe out humans. So, this is why weyland wants in on the action since they probably find this out about the xeno's in the movie - that they are the "anti-human". so then they can sell the aliens to the military for huge sums of money. and that ends up being the basis of the movie. or maybe the jockey's find out humans are too advanced and a threat or cruel and maybe plan to send an army of aliens to earth when they meet the crew of the prometheus. who knows for sure.
Also, another line of thought is about that weird guy that seems to start changing into something in the trailer. im thinking along the lines of the original way the aliens bred that was in the deleted scenes of alien where they change their host biologically while still alive somehow. maybe there's a way for the jockey's to change a human into a xeno and thats what may be happening to this guy. just a thought. i really have no clue about what happens to that guy. I mean though i did see where ridley did make mention theres more to the prometheus back story where he makes mention of the continual punishment of the greek prometheus and a link to the movie. maybe the transformation of the humans to xenos could be that way? or maybe like i said earlier, that the jockey's plan to send a xeno army to earth?? thoughts?

In my view the cocooned man who intends to attack the crew was one of the crew before.
But he infected by a virus in the world of engineers . thus his body changed and Ridely said that there has alien DNA may mean that there will not aliens but you saw that the cocooned man 's action is quite similar to the alien's . He may be the role replace the alien.
