Can somebody give us a close up of the big guy. He is definitely in the room and not some kind of figure. I would go along with a humanoid type jockey and suit. We know the jockey succumbs to the chestbuster. It would take some dam decent facehugger to get at that giant. For me the original jockey is in fact one of the crew infected but managing to pilot the ship by getting into the jockey suit and crash landing on lv426 to avoid earth. What an unbelievable ending.

For me Frantz that is what the SJ's look like, that is a space jockey - unfortunately, and for some reason they wear a bio-mechanical, or simply mechanical suit when piloting the craft.......shame. Hope I am wrong. I'm with snorkelbottom - The SJ should be like the designs, a really weird bio-mechanical organism. Looks like its fossilised, man it's grown out of its chair - Dallas's words turned me on. much better than, "man, it looks like some kind of suit that something was inside"....doesn't quite have the same resonance.
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
That guy's head definitely looks weird. Does he have ears?
ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
Just think if Dallas and Lambert had of had a closer look at the jockey they would have found a human skeleton inside. Maybe Shaw. Hell that's the last thing I would have dream't of for the last 30 years. What a coup. Scott you bloody genius.

I created a looping GIF extracting the Space Jockey Chair sequence in High Resolution. It´s about 20MB so please be patient with that file to load completely:

Thanks Scidley that is excellent. That guy has some strange muscular stuff going on.

I have been reading this thread and feel like I have something to say. It makes sense that biomechanisms are an invention of the SJ's, a way to make a living organism with the purpose of a machine. This would allow them to integrate with their technology for perfect communication. I do not think it makes sense for the SJ's to actually BE biomechanical, they use to to create a guidance system for piloting, to make beings/slaves to do their work, and to create a creature as a weapon. Since it makes sense I think it is a better route than just satisfying us with some crazy creature that is the SJ (then we would be disappointed that it didn't make any sense). If Ridley Scott wants to make it humanoid, it will flow with the story AND he will make it really cool, not like other movies that just throw those ideas around.

Great work Scidley - Just by doing that you have thrown new light onto the entire landscape.
ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
I totally agree what Scott will do will have pure purpose and be convincing. The sj world must be credible. His left arm does look boi-mechanical though?
ReplyThe High PriestPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
Mutation seams to be a key element of this movie. The SJ in the original Alien was also a mutation of humanoid (SJ) in Scidleys loop?
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
i think he is maybe a survivor ( like the other mutated "jumping" guy ) or maybe a bot ... i dont see him being a spacejockey ( it would suck btw ) ..to me is the same person on a wheelchair in another sequence
the neck to me is part of the suit ..not of the body
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
Something about him looks CGI to me.

OK.... Here's what I think about the figure in the Jockey Chamber. It is def a humanoid, and maybe twice the size of the human in the spacesuit in the same Chamber during the star map scene. The human in the middle of the round platform is moving it's arm about like directing the star map or something. If you compare the scale of this human in the center of the star map in control of it, and the humanoid when the chair rises, the humanoid is much bigger....looks like it can sit in the chair comfortably.
Mutated human or something else... What do you think?
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
Looks like Matthew Rook good eye mentos. He still looks CGI to me though lol.
Replyalteredstate.Prometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
i dont think neville page who specialises in creature design has spent months with this film sying he has worked harder on this project than anything else (quotes from the horses mouth) he has worked on to come up with a bald grey skin guy.
Get a grip and trust in ridley.

@Biomechanic thank you sir. I agree, he seems to have a CG glow to his torso.

Compare the head and face of that figure to the guy in the wheelchair at 00:00:43 in the trailer.

the thing that romanced, excited, and scared me in equal measures about the original Alien was just how "alien" Gigers Space Jockey and Derilect craft really were. I totaly bought into the realism of how it looked. This for me reflected just how different a species was if we were to make contact with another lifeform. I am just nervous that Prometheus will destroy the real twisted mystery and bizzarenes and otherworldliness of the Space Jockey. I hope alteredstate is right, as I agree its gonna be a crying shame if the Space Jockeys are Giant versions of humans, and the reason the one in the derilict is so "alien" is beacause it is a fucking suit, or a "mutation".

Still wondering if those two big horizontal objects on the floor are cryo tubes or something like it. Maybe that's where the boi-mech suits are stored? They look like Giger's version of a coffin- complete with visors for viewing the inhabitant.
ReplyRavenPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
also if you look at the SJ chair there appears to be something in the form of a head rest on the back part of the SJ chairmaybe a 'helmet" that when the guy walking on the room sits down wraps aroung his head as does the rest of the suit becoming "one " with the chair. Just a thought.
ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
This does look cgi in fact that whole scene is. The SJ could be done in CGI for the full movie with no character listing. I think it's very likely and I am also disappointed to some degree. But if the SJ invented mankind he might well have done it in his own image. After all our children look like us. It will be fascinating to see how he might communicate with the crew
ReplymstaJPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
From the very first time I saw Alien, I ALWAYS believed the SJ was in a suit. It's ridiculous to think otherwise. Just because he is "alien" doesn't mean he's cannot be harmed by "space" like humans.
Plus, if you read the recent interview by Ridley Scott, he talks about how we, humans, came to be, and how Prometheus touches on it. If according to Prometheus, we are descendants/created of/by the SJ than awesome. They created us and the xenomorphs. It's not far fetched at all to believe other "alien" species would resemble us, just as it's not farfetched to believe they'd be 100% different. All in all, we won't know until we actually see other extraterrestrials and must remember this is a movie and it's in Ridley's hands. Who else can you trust to do a prequel/story of the SJ in an Alien Universe other than the man who made the first? (James Cameron doesn't count. Aliens was great, but too action heavy compared to the scifi horror Alien is.)
Whatever Ridley does with this movie, I have 100% faith in him.

hmmm...yes close up that guy looks a bit more non human....that looks like a rather impressive suit he is wearing tho.....perhaps he is the other person with white blood!...maybe a more obvious model!
ReplyTromatizerPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
Honestly, that could just be an actor standing in for the space jockey. Sometimes trailers have incomplete, alternate or promotional only scenes, especially when there exists such a detail oriented fan community who will tear apart the trailer scene by scene. It is possible, however, that the rumored plot leak could be partially true in that the crew changes genetically, so that bald guy (assuming he's not a stand in) may turn into the space jockey.
ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
Yes we need to consider a lot of this trailer may never be seen again. Check out the trailer for Alien3. I believe the movie scenes are all now complete so its CGI and cut and past for six months. Lots could change
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
mmmm ... can be that the guy that is hit by the "acid/goo" ( halloway ) slowly trasform himself in a monster/Sj/mutant ?
that would explain the other shoot ( with him on a weelchair ) and him thinking desperate on the bed near noomi
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
yip...i agree...at least close up he does seem a bit more...scary ominous or whatever....tho their is some serious detail on his back ....looks like a bi o-mechanical type of spacesuit he is wearing....still he is a bit 2 humanoid for my liking.....will see in 5 and a half months from now......omg it's gonna drive me nuts!

With all this talk of the humanoid space jockey everyone seems to have forgotten about the huge human head thing in the ampule room.
ReplyWeylandJanitorPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
Guys, go to itunes and watch the trailer in 1080p. Stop at 0:44. You can clearly see the "creature" which I bet my balls is the infamous SP. Why I am so sure? Compare the size of the thing with the scale of the chair, and how is relative to humans, in ALIEN. They had to climb the chair to get to the top. So this, I am afraid, is what the SJ's look like. Even the suit matches the lines on the arm that go with the chair...
This could be also matched with the fact that the giant head could be indeed just a representation of that race, which is human-like. That would sort of explain too how is that these aliens terraformed and created the human race, off their own bio-engineering.
A bit disappointed to me though, I loved the Giger design better without being just a "suit".
:(

I've got it - just watching Sherlock Holmes on Sky. The tall bald guy is the huge French dude with the axe that Holmes and Watson have a great deal of trouble taking down. Same dude. So, Prometheus has as much in common with Sherlock Holmes as it does Alien :-)

Humanoid space jockeys would certainly be unexpected, that's for sure. It's probably about the last thing I would have thought of. Whether or not it works will depend on just how creepy/terrifying they and their technology turn out to be, I suppose.....but the idea that monsters created us, definitely has a certain twisted appeal.
ReplyNickPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
Also remember that this movie is themed with the origin of man, Scott refers them to as "gods" several times so it would be no surprise if the Jockey race created us in their own image.
Things can be changed all the time, and I have no problem with that.
Take Alien as en example.
Did you know?
The original title was "Star Beast".
The original name for the spaceship was Snark. This was later changed to Leviathan before they finally settled for Nostromo.
According to Ridley Scott in the DVD commentary, he had envisioned a moment in the ending scenes of Ripley and the alien in the space shuttle in which the alien would be sexually aroused by Ripley. Scott says that in the scene, after Ripley hides in the closet, the alien would find her and would be staring at her through the glass door. The alien would then start touching itself as if comparing its body to Ripley's. The idea was eventually scrapped.
Ridley Scott reportedly said that originally he wanted a much darker ending. He planned on having the alien bite off Ripley's head in the escape shuttle, sit in her chair, and then start speaking with her voice in a message to Earth. Apparently, 20th Century Fox wasn't too pleased with such a dark ending.

Some of my favorite Alien trivia bits.
So what if the jockey is humanoid?
It is an established fact that it was inside a suit.
Even LOOK at the original painting by hr giger and you can see that the alleged "trunk"
is actually a breathing tube fused to the skull, and that a small glass helmet surrounds the head.
http://www.blogodisea.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/alien-space-jockey-hr-giger.jpg
The jockey is wearing a suit, so what is underneath is completely up to Scott now.
I have 100% faith that this movie will be amazing, and I am simply flattered that they decided to show us the Jockey...if that even is him.
ReplyPredatordreadsPrometheus ForumThe Mysterious Figure?Dec 22, 2011
This is a tough call. I am not sure what to say since we have seen the decapitated head in two pictures. The first in the incubation chamber where Shaw and David are examining it and possibly running tests and then there is the still from entertainment weekly where Noomi and Katie are holding on to the head in the ampule room. I hope that if this neanderthal is going to be an engineer that the space jockey suit is a sentient itself. Thats what I got. I am sure whatever it is Ridley will make this something that makes sense and this is going to be a fabulous movie like something we have never seen.
