I'm going to state my opinion. But first I’ll state some critical, critic’s facts:
Alien: 96% "Fresh" Rotten Tomatoes
Aliens: 100% "Fresh" Rotten Tomatoes
Alien 3: 39% "Rotten" Rotten Tomatoes
Alien Resurrection: 55% "Rotten" Rotten Tomatoes
For all I care there are only two movies. “Alien,” was ground breaking and appeals to those who find acting performances important. It’s because of its superb suspense, horror and acting that made it so powerful. Ridley Scott really did take a B-Movie and turn it into a class act memory and source material for film history. For those who love 80’s action movies, “Aliens” is one of the greatest action movies, and the one of the greatest sequels ever made. In all fairness, there's plenty of character development in both, and the writing is superb, but they each fit the tastes of different audiences; however, I it’s fair to say that both movies are great on their own. I think Aliens still challenges even modern day standards of sequels. The film is brilliant in that it takes previous concepts and ideas and builds on them, while still paying homage to the original. That’s why I love them both!
Shardy: We can agree that James Cameron is now a big money man. But his early films which he wrote/co-wrote, AND directed: “Terminator,” “The Abyss,” and “Aliens,” are and always will be his best because that's when he challenged himself, as a filmmaker, for films' sake. It’s very clear because he really wanted to make great sci-fi movies, which he did!
In conclusion, those of you that dismiss “Aliens” are crazy to me. It’s a sequel that many see as a separate film. Those of you who love those last two movies, “Alien 3” and “Alien Resurrection” I will not understand. Maybe because David Fincher is the director of “The Social Network”/ “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and you guys are Fincher homers, or maybe it’s because you like how he took you back to the same feelings as the original, albeit not for it’s thespian attributes (epic fail). Let’s be real though, the writing, the direction, and overall production of these last two films, especially Alien 3, were very poor, and many, many film critics think so as well. Fox still wanted to capitalize financially while the franchise was still relevant, any way that they could, even if it meant big budgets with poor scripting.
With a slew of seasoned actors and actresses, I hope Prometheus at least takes us back to the thespian standard set in 1979!

What.... The Hell. Anyone that thinks that Parts 3 and 4 are in anyway shape or form a part of the two original movies are not true fans of the Alien IDEAL. Like it or not even Mr Scott would tell you in your face that A3 & A4 are incredgulous movies made to make money off the successfulness of a franchise that Mr Scott created (with help). Hins... is why he's making a new movie."Miser" is right that he does have a right to his own opinion, but its wrong. Thats my opinion. A3 killed Three main characters. Charles Dutton is my man, but dang, Hicks, Bishop, and the baby. The movie had heart, but no soul. A4 was just ( I hate to go Urban), but just stupid. Dig deeper; so called fans. Get the facts. A4 only made budget. I love Sigourney Weaver, but she, and executives at Fox detroyed the last two flixs for just money, and not for the fan, and money. When money is the total overwhelming goal, the ideal goes away & the soul of the movie dies. Thats why usually the first of something is almost always the best (example Star Wars, the Matrix, oh yeah Alien. A3 A4 movies where NOT well recieved by many many many many fans, and critics across the board.

@SeeYouKicks: (i feel) the reason that "Aliens" was as successful as it was,
is in large part, due to the fact that the story is almost the same as the film it
claims to be a sequel to (ALIEN 1979)
the major plot points of both films are too similar to argue against this fact
i DO enjoy watching Cameron's films,
what kills my joy a bit in regards to his films, is that they are ALL blatantly
derivative. O'Bannon and Scott made no argument in their intention with ALIEN,
it was THEIR take on the now classic B-Movies they both grew up with, but in Cameron's
case, he HAS both the talent and ability to tell a story, an original one he just seems
(for whatever reasons) to no be able to create a sequel that doesn't (for all intents and purposes)
mirror the original
i saw "Titanic"(1997) when it was in it's first run on the big screen,
to say that film is impeccably written / directed / would be an understatement,
only to find, that the story is pretty much a copy of a film called "Titanic" that
came out in the 1950s'....
same (sadly) goes for Avatar. the premise of that film was taken from an
an old sci-fi novel and an episode of Stargate: Atlantis of all things....
my gripe with all things "Aliens" is that for me, it just does not / can not / nor will it
ever be a fair continuation of Scott's "ALIEN" for me. we can definitely agree to disagree
but as a diehard ALIEN fan, i can't really claim the first film to
have ANY equal / sequel. i'd guess Scott was the only one with the guts
to tackle the Space Jockey as the jumping off point for his new film,
rather than rehash all the damage that i feel has been done to the ALIEN
film's initial concepts and tone with the "bugs in space" premise that
Cameron seemed to have fathered
i'm hoping against ALL hope that Scott's PROMETHEUS will undo some
of the damage the vapid films that followed seems to have done to the overall
integrity of what ALIEN initially represented to us - something truly well - - alien
at least i'm hoping it will be

i think the aliens is ridleys's universe are neither male or female ... if they are a sort of "weapon" ( ridleys said many time that the derelict could be a sort of bomber ) they are genetically built to reproduct and without a specific sex .

Yes indeed, and honestly I prefer this version than that of a Queen. It looks like the Space Jockeys have engineered it for "reasons unknown". If you look at H.R Giger's drawings you find many answers of the story plot:

Okay in 9 famous names link Sigourney Weaver back to herself, each name has to have a link to the name before and after it. If Sigourney is name number 1 and 11 then a clue for name 6 would be "drag".
P.S. the names must match those on my list and the first person to post them all in the correct order gets... erm... 3 points.

i just hope it's at 2+ (waaaaaay plus) hours long.
the thing about a great movie, is that the time tends to fly by
wonder how long the eventual directors

im fighting myself not to watch this crap version and wait for the hd version. and was hoping to see it attached to dragon tatoo but if its not then that blows. guess i'll wait for the more sexy version to be online, based on everyone's comments no one seems disappointed which is a big plus. so i suppose i'll keep my self-control and wait a little longer. i feel like a drug addict that needs his fix lol

The "head" they are scanning I thought was an original alien egg. Now i'm feeling you guys could be right and it is a SJ head. The thing that really interests me is at about 0.34, the figure moving on the bed. Could that be an early mutation, the one that collapses as it enters the lab?

ReplyaintnozenoPrometheus ForumXenomorphs in the movie?Dec 21, 2011
There were so many different versions of the original zeno. All of them after Alien were good, but less sinister and scary to me. It's hard to imagine that at least some form of the original won't appear in this film. There has to at least be some explanation for them ending up on the SJ ship. They may not appear in the original form, but SOMETHING similar to them has to be revealed, or at least some explanation for the existence of the facehugger.
The trailer clearly shows the derelict crashing after some kind of explosion. I think the primary plot of this movie will be that after we discover whatever the thing is that David is pulling from the ampule, that it infects the crew and the SJ ship is dispatched to clean up and contain the mess we made on LV426, not to go to earth as has been discussed previously. I'm also wondering if there are more than one derelict, as the one in the trailer appears to have more extensive damage than the original in Alien did.
Scott's continual use of the "original DNA" comment sounds more like a disclaimer to me than anything else. I can't imagine the original zeno being topped by any other creature in terms of scariness or originality, but I guess we'll see.
The bad thing now is that after we see this trailer, that's gonna be just about it until summer. What a let down!!!!!!

you make a valid point.
if PROMETHEUS unfolds the way it seems to be rumored,
then the ENTIRE crew of the ill-fated Nostromo was doomed
from the get go, just lab rats on a mission to be used in a most
foul manner
does make you think doesn't it.....
ReplyGhost SolitarePrometheus ForumQuestions AnsweredDec 21, 2011
While I admit that the images look spectacular it just saddens me that this entire franchise will be attributed to the darker nature of mankind, and his inability to evolve and adapt to his role in the expanding universe. It would have been kinder to accept that our encounter with the Xenomorph was exactly depicted. A lone ship detecting a weak signal and diverting course to investigate. Instead not only was the ship preprogrammed to divert course to Archeron when it left Thedus, their employers knew exactly what awaited them. It's really too bad that Ripley wasn't able to substantiate her claims and take Weyland down upon her return to Earth. Consider for yourself how angry you would be if you discovered all of this, then play it forward. It would have been a warm and sunny day on LV-426 before you ever got me in a ship and taken me back there.

I was sad when they "Nuked The Site From Orbit" I would have liked to Surf There with "Lance" and "SGT Kilgore" from "Apocalypse Now"
ReplyGhost SolitarePrometheus ForumQuestions AnsweredDec 21, 2011
Hi Spart, they didn't nuke the site from orbit. The fusion reactors on the Atmospheric processors went critical. So in effect they nuked the site from inside the facility. You know a lot of people pay good money to hunt game animals. I'm sure that bloodthirsty morons with a lot of NuEuro's to burn would be willing to pay quite a bit just to strap on some pulse rifles and go stomping around Hadley's Hope.
