I agree entirely I 've said it many times here Scott has been dreaming just as we have and will not hang himself or his reputation on some 2 bit movie. Focus on the visuals for now Frank the rest may change entirely over the next six months.

No, this won't be another "Pitch Black".....and for what it was, "Pitch Black" wasn't half-bad, anyway.
This is Ridley Scott revisiting one of his most precious legacies.
I'm more than fairly confident he isn't going to screw that up.

I wish the lazy, cheap digs would stop - as Spartacus points out, why are we doing this to ourselves?
True, we've all been so jaded with the movie industry in recent years...let's face it, there have been few highspots, especially in sc-fi. But I'm willing to hold out for Scott. He's an exceptionally intelligent filmmaker - I'm just thinking of the intricacies and nuances of Bladerunner and the original Alien. This is a genre he's well suited to, as a filmmaker, graphic artist, creative person. I'm sure he'll deliver an epic horror.

I haven't seen a really good Alien movie recently since District 9.
It's about time we have another legendary picture to add to the shelves!
ReplyaintnozenoPrometheus ForumTrailer Packs a Whalop; Reeks Of Intelligent Film Making!Dec 22, 2011
So much of today's movies are reboots and prequels. A few are pretty good, but by far most are just pathetic.
I think the fact that Scott abandoned the direct prequel with Prometheus was a good thing. Given how much he openly dislikes what was done with the Alien "franchise", along with this being completely original- hopefully sets this up to be a GREAT film. I am hopeful that Scott's attitude towards what was done with the original creature and story that was so dear to him has made him feel he had something to prove. If so, this will be well worth the wait. If not, it will still probably be worth going to see. At least all of my speculation will be settled!

I really liked District 9 and found it Highly original, Thought it even left room at the end there for another one.
ReplyPredatordreadsPrometheus ForumTrailer Packs a Whalop; Reeks Of Intelligent Film Making!Dec 22, 2011
District 9 was very COOL! Everything was just right about that movie! Hotel Rawanda meets Aliens. I think it is cool that this movie gonna stand its own ground and if the Alien DNA in this movie is only found in the atmosphere and the Space Jockey thats fine! I have a good feeling that the trailer hardly even scratched the surface as far as what we have to look forward to at the premiere. I just now realized there are cast members that we have still not seen in the trailer and still taken from comic con that were not included in this trailer and other leaked footage. For instance has anyone seen Guy Pierce yet also what about Patrick Wilson as the cocooned man, Rafe Spall and remember the picture of the guy wearing the space helmet and the top of his face is dissolving but you can see him screaming. Or that part where Fassbender is wearing that navigational helmet with the neon yellow visor. Isn't this movie going to be almost 3 hours and remember Ridley mentioned there would be two robots possibly.

I Like it too, in my case, because if fits with what I, you, we all, have been saying with each day that goes by.
And with my Bold statement that the company KNEW and deliberately caused the crash of the Derelict on LV-426
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumMegellan Destroyed?Dec 22, 2011
The scene where Theron is running and stripping tells me she set the ship on a collision course with the derelict and she making a b-line for the escape hatch as we see her climb into escape hatch and get out of there and then end up on the surface of the famous planet...

ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumMegellan Destroyed?Dec 22, 2011
Spartacus you write good stuff here. How does the company know about the ship and what might be on board? A signal would have to be sent back to earth months before the events in order to allow time for action. Why crash it at all why not invite it back to earth and be ready for it? Or are you saying they new prior to the launch of the exploration? All this would be closely tied to Alien/s etc.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumMegellan Destroyed?Dec 22, 2011
Wow, something else...
Ridley says something HEAVY in the 3rd teaser that hasn't stopped GNAWING away at my guts.
He says..."Little things...doing great big terrible things".
He definitely emphasizes this as well, like it's a KEY & REPETITIVE thing in the film.
The credits at the end of the official Trailer...read...in big bold letters
W R I T T E N BY J O H N S P AI H T S
and then the other writing credits underneath.
There is a chance however slight, but quite real now, that we are going to see the ORIGIN as Spaihts described it in "Harvest" of the "Internecivus Raptus", in it's original infant baby stage form, coming out to earth, literally, from a hole in the ground.,

The company I suspect in theory knows whats going on, on board Prometheus, for several reasons not the least of which is it being standard protocall to have an android on board "coalating data" for it.
What if, I suggest, the central focal point of the film, is not, The Ampules per se themselves, but the bigger thing, the only other much bigger thing, the work the "Engineers" are doing on other planets, Harvesting them?
An earth based expedition team comes along, fucks with their "goo", needed essentially for manufacturing synthetic beings or life forms to assist in their primary objective, Harvesting other worlds and consuming their natural resources, even steals some of the Ampules themselves they think in the best interest of their mankind, and they decide to wipe out the race.
The Engineers load up a vessel with Xenomorph programmed Ampules and send it on a coarse for EARTH.
The Company sends an order to intercept the ship before it arrives there.
Someone from the Prometheus crew forces it to crash on LV-426 !!!
Just a "Leaked Plot mixed with Facts collected about the making of the film" type educated Guess.
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumMegellan Destroyed?Dec 22, 2011
Yes... I had similar thoughts. As far as I remember, LV-426 in "Alien" had a very "Alienish" - "Gigerish" landscape. The landscape in "Prometheus" is more of an earthy/volcanic texture. I'm not sure...
It looks like the Jockey ship is crushing after an impact with some other object or an inside explosion of some sort.
Yes I remember... in the "Alien" movie, there where 4 planets. If I remember correct, there was 1 large planet and 3 other planetoids or moons/satellites. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's the way it looked to me.
Great thoughts by the way. I'm very curious...
ReplyaintnozenoPrometheus ForumMegellan Destroyed?Dec 22, 2011
This is a good thread with some awesome ideas. And I agree, there is what looks like an escape pod burning right where Shaw and Vickers are running from.
But didn't Spaights publicly deny having written "Alien Harvest"?
Personally, I hope NONE of that story was real, and I hope none of it is in this film. I thought it was very weak at best. The fan-created synopsis (with the BIOFORMER) posted a few weeks ago was far better than that one.

The spaceships look awesome! Couldn't help but notice that large skull on an operating table, perhaps fossilized? It's kind of reminiscent of our old buddy SJ from Alien without the nose hose. Definitely no Xeno's! Yet
ReplyPredatordreadsPrometheus ForumMegellan Destroyed?Dec 22, 2011
We wont really know until we see the movie. Ridley has been so secretive about this project. There are all kinds of theories about how this movie is going to turn out. I have read the whole Alien harvest thing, I have read that this movie is basically the Thing only in outer space, a member on this forum named RHunter posted something about Charlize Theron being the STAR BEAST and along with that note we have heard that through the long journey in space the ship goes back in time to primordial earth through a wormhole and that where and when all the events take place in the movie. We have heard that the goo gets on Logan Marshall Green and causes him to evolve back into a neanderthal. And so on and so fourth. Ridley has done a lot to keep this movies plot and storyline under wraps. There have been some small hints but I think he wants this movie to shock us and break new ground in science fiction and film making. Keep in mind this is NOT George Lucas directing a movie this is Ridley Scott.

Well if this thing truly is a suit, what creature could be inside it is anybody's guess. As for the apparent opening, maybe some sort of large chest-burster had done it. But the real question is; how the hell did this possible face-hugger get inside the suit?
Replydb73Prometheus ForumRecall: Alien 1 Space Jockey had a CHEST BURSTER Dec 22, 2011
In the original Alien Dallas commented that 'it's like it exploded from the inside' or something. Obviously we soon found out what that was all about when it was dinner time on the Nostromo!
ReplyNineteenHundredPrometheus ForumRecall: Alien 1 Space Jockey had a CHEST BURSTER Dec 22, 2011
@Agent Mothman
Most likely, the Jockey was impregnated BEFORE getting in the suit. He started to burst while flying the ship and it crashed. That's what probably happens in Prometheus.

Just my thoughts.....
The human changing/morphing is Holloway....In slow mo his name can be seen on the skull cap. Also the scene with the acid on helmet when the vitim is holding his face clearly shows a brain like pattern developing on his skull....similar to the mutant. Could the viles contain DNA that provide the missing link between man and early primordial life. When a humanoid is exposed to the goo/acid he actually reverts back to a wild ape like animal.
2001: explored this when ape came into contact with the monolith and enlightenment for creation of weapons that enabled them to progress further than other ape tribes.I would consider the grey to be a space engineer.....or one of the creators.
Space jockey I would hint as the cleaners/workers or couriers to new worlds that unleash xenomorphs to remove unwanted life forms in prep for humanoid DNA creation/ life forms. I would also consider a possibilty (The meaning of "Prometheus" stole fire from the gods and gave it to man) and in some way evidence of the origins of mankind on earth were not removed, leading to the exploration to a planet and therefore broken a rule that any created being not learn from which/where they came.

i hope that they really give us a good n' meaty production disc,

so there is MUCH to look forward to in that regard
ReplyReimerAlien Movies ForumAlien3 "reboot"?Dec 22, 2011
Agree that A3 is much better than many allow and remarkably good considering the circumstances of its tortured production - in fact I'm incredulous that such a prolonged flip-flopping process can occur, given the apparent calibre and pedigree of the principals. It also has one of the creepiest moments in the series: the arrival of the "rescue" team - the Alien itself might be a fantastic mercifully-non-existent extrapolation of Zoology and biological imperatives, but that group of cold-eyed, ruthless, white-clad monsters (or people very very like them) is likely plotting together even as we speak.
AR has some wonderful scenes: the Queen and her progeny in their 'cages', nominally under the control of another evil "rescue" team, still make me shudder.
Re 'Alien'vs 'Aliens': watching the first film recently for first time in YEARS I was struck by how anti-climactic the ending is, and how the totally-berserk flashing-lights hooting-sirens countdown is the template Cameron used for his own film's climax, complete with false ending too. Quite at odds with the coldly-clinical quality of the rest of Scott's film.
ReplyshardyAlien Movies ForumAlien3 "reboot"?Dec 22, 2011
i will agree with "Miser" 100% about Cameron's "Aliens",
i was really enthusiastic when articles began to surface that
an "ALIEN" sequel was being planned, then all the articles
that followed leading up the eventual release of the film back
in he mid 1980's
i saw it the day it opened (twice)
the first screening i was interested and somewhat sated,
but as i was waiting in line for the second screening, i realized
this film was N O T on the level as Scott's "ALIEN" was...
not even close.
for me, it has not aged well at all,
in fact, it's in the same company as that "AvP" garbage, the alien species
was reduced to a "space bug" and that is merely the jumping off point for
what turned out to be an almost parallel story line from Cameron of Scott's
film (auto-destruct strobe-lights / aliens aboard the escape craft and all)
those who can not create - - merely replicate
all the copyright / legal trouble Cameron has gone thru
(and continues to go through) effortlessly validates this point
with Alien3, at least Fincher didn't resort to a countdown,
or low-brow humor, or letting heavy arms fire drive his film,
i do think that Alien3 had it's obvious flaws, but i give it it's
due credit for not having a Xeroxed story line like the film it
followed...
i scoff at ANY reference to "Xeno-morphs" "Hyperdyne" and "LV426",
all of these things call to my mind all the things Cameron helped to do
to chip away at the ALIEN mythology i grew to love
i'm hoping that with "PROMETHEUS" (fingers croxxed)
Scott rewrites all the damage Cameron did with his commercial sequel effort,
and sets to right, all the ALIEN lore i've not only come to love, but respect
time will tell....
ReplyGame_Over_ManAlien Movies ForumAlien3 "reboot"?Dec 22, 2011
I would love Ridley to rip-up the history created by the sequels. I think it's the only way the Xeno can be saved...as if everything we thought we knew, was horribly wrong - which really is the case anyway. There's very little in the sequels that truly builds on what RIdley started.
In regards to Alien 3 being rebooted - it would really be wonderful to rework Vincent Ward's concepts, integrating them with Ridleys themes of sexual dominance, forced reproduction...
ReplyPredatordreadsAlien Movies ForumAlien3 "reboot"?Dec 22, 2011
I am glad this discussion has been posted. I agree Hybrid Vigor Alien 3 was just not right for the series. I even remember in the teaser when I saw Point Break it said something about the Alien coming to Earth and the egg above Earth. I bet its on youtube. Anyhow even in the interviews on the Alien 3 special features Michael Behn was so upset that they killed off Hicks, he loved that role! I think we all love Hicks! I even remember the Dark Horse comics in which Hicks, Bishop and Newt story continued onward to the point where the Xenos were undergoing training to be weapons for the military and Newt was all grown up. Its was a real good read! Same with AVP comics they were so cool! The stories were just spot on and worked so good with both universes. If these comics were the screenplays for the continuation of both series 20th century fox would have GOLD! But they had to just render everything they way they wanted it. Alien 3 unfortunately was the demise of the series. The story was just too weird, I mean a penal colony? I think a farming community would've been better. But it was so DUMB to kill of Hicks and Bishop. Newt I am cool with her being killed off. But didn't Ridley have a sequel drawn up for Alien or some stills indicating that there was another Xeno crunched down somewhere on the outer portion of the Narcicuss
