Ok just two things ( of course can go the way you say ...its just my opinion ) 1) Ridley scott give always some sort of "payback" in his stories ..in gladiator the hero die yes but he win and there is the afterlife shoot and all the rest ..so there is a big payback ...the same with blade runner ...a total bleak movie with a surprisingly happy ending ...do you immagine "the duellists " with a bleak ending ? or Alien with a bleak ending ? that would have been really a rape for the viewer !! the big payback in prometheus can be ( and i pretty sure will be ) the destruction of the bad guys even at the cost of all the crew . We know that space jockeys and the "aliens" are in pretty bad shape for the rest of the series ( in fact they are more the "survivors" than the humans ) 2) Ridley scott is 74 ..is an age when you need "hope" ... you cant be depressed and bleak at that age ...you can act as a hard , sadic , cool guy when you are young but when you are older you have to go a bit deeper into things and at the end of things there is always one thing that remain ..hope in a good ending .There is hope in all his movies so i will be surprised that if wont happen now .

Given the story or what many think the story to be..Engineers/gods/creators...maybe that gives a chance to have some uplifting ending? If prometheus is its own animal and its link to Alien is a subplot then yeah it may work to end on a happy note. But with some doubts..Im sure there is and maybe always was plans to continue the story in the Prometheus universe? So a happy ending with a way to continue it...

you guys raised some fantastic points, it could go either way for sure, or who knows, but I am inclined to think although he may leave it open to interpretation and so that he can make more of these, the end result of some of the Prometheus Crew Stealing even just 1 of them "Ampules", if that's what really happens, is going to resonate right through to the ending of this thing, and it will not be pretty or nice, it will be some sort of Wicked Nasty Thang !!!

this green goo, or what the green goo results in is probably the new direction they have been talking about.

I think its safe to say the Urns hold something important alright.... so many possibilities with this one...never mind where it could go!

Ok, so wanted to pick up a few things from what Frantz said earlier and his views on bleak endings.. I see what your saying, but i think it's a very simplistic way of viewing it. yes a lot of films put a bleak ending in to gain critical credibility, but what Ridley scott has always done IMO is put himself in the position of "this is real, and if it's real, how is it inevitably going to end or what is the most realistic ending" obviously for a given value of real dealing with a film set in space. As i've said before one of the scariest film's i've ever seen had no sex, no swearing, no gore, and it was rated a 15 in the uk because the psychological horror was enough to warrant 15 rating. But it all depends on context, I don't want to see Sadism, torture and gore that is pointless either. IMO hostel was a poor excuse for a "horror" film. The first saw was excellent because it was mostly to guys in a room, but after that, saw 2 onwards, they just became about more and more sadistic traps for the viewers titillation (yes i do have that little faith in the general movie going public). But when guys here say we have would like everyone wiped out at the end, it's because that's most likely what would happen in the circumstances. Alien was one of the greatest films of any genre, but the end, the very very end was a cop out. Now ridley did his best and made it terriying, but at the end of the day the hero won out in circumstances which were nearly impossible to win out against. granted we wouldn't be sitting here now discussing prequels and sequels. What I'm saying is, it's all about context, and in the context of this film we are looking at body shock style horror, where the horror comes from the origins of life as a whole. The inferences there, are that what kind of creatures would the creators of life be, just how much value would we hold to them, and if he were beginning to look like rivals what would they do to maintain supremacy? would they have any qualms ripping us to pieces anymore than we would feel bad putting insecticide into an ants nest or putting salt on a slug when it's damaging your plants? We don't rail for a bad ending because "it'll be cool that everyone dies" or "it'll mean lots of torture or sadism" we want a bleak ending because in the case of the alien series, it's entirely appropriate. Your payback idea is actually a good spot, but it's what we're talking about in an ending that's bleak. Look at the Thing, yes they won, but we can only assume Childs and Macready froze to death. I don't think there was anything happy about the bladerunner ending, at leastin the case of the directors cut. The original version had a badly tacked on expository voice over by Ford and a studio approved sunshiney ending which i personally think was a dream anyway (the earth is polluted and devastated, everyone left for the colonies because it was so bad, so where the hell did the sunshine, tree's, and glistening lake come from). On Ridleys Scotts age being a factor.. Ridley Scott is true to his art. If the context of the film requires "hope" then you get it, if it doesn't, then you don't. Gladiator as a specific case, well he'd spent so much time developing max as a character, and having you empathise with and had done such crappy things to him throughout the film, that he couldn't not give him his family back at the end. I don't think we every saw ripley in the same way, or thelma and louise etc. Black Hawk down was a real event, fathers and sons and brothers died, to potray that any other way would have lessened their memories. Context

- I hate very most CGI Monsters. You SEE that its not real, no matter how many millions they invest in it. - please no love story! - please no Russel Crowe! I am so happy with M. Fassbender.. great actor - please give me some aliens. I want to know who and how they were created - no need for the old facehugger story. Nice one on the first parts of aliens - but not the same horror again and again...

What I fear the most is a super confusing plot line with tuns of timetravel....i'm pretty sure I will watch this movie many times ...but I don't want it to be cause i did not understand just WTF happened after watching it the first time. I just want a deep, thought provoking and disturbing horror story in space...not something with a plot that jumps back and fourth. I don't mind CGI...but their is good and bad CGI in my opinion...they must just not overdo it. I definitely would like to see some xeno's ...even if it's only towards the end of the story...I don't mind if they look slightly different in concept....would be refreshing to see an altered xeno! I am hoping for tuns of gore as well!

I would like to think we're safe from bad CGI, Ridley is known to use it to enhance the physical sets, not replace them altogether (george lucas, I'm looking at you). Look at Black Hawk Down and Gladiator, they were full of CGI but it was done the right way, so it wasn't obvious. I'm not necessarily hoping for tons of gore, looking at alien, with the exception of a few scenes, it really wasn't that gory. The chestburster yes, but after that we never really saw anything, it was always off camera or the aftermath of an attack, Ridley let our minds do the work. The scariest film i ever saw had virtually no violence, gore, sex or swearing. I think the thing about Alien and Aliens was, they both drove the franchise forward. Alien was first and established the concept, Aliens was a different kind of film (war film in space compared to psychological horror) but added to the concept. and had new ideas. all the cinematic cut of ALien 3 and Res did was tread old territory. what would i hate to see? Sigourney Weaver having anything to do with this film even in cameo. She's had her time. Stupidly and cheesily tacked on fanboy demands, like for example the predalien in predator (lets face it AVP's series was a result of fanboy demands). What works in a comic will not necessarily work on film. Rehashing of things like the powerloader (this is our new PL-3 billion combat exoskeleton protoytpe, oh you mean the powerloaders originally came from a military application?), human technology looking more advanced than it did in the original films (sudden inexplicable holographic monitors etc). Too much of a good thing i.e. seeing to much of the jockeys, 'morphs, jockey tech in action etc etc

Tec-B is right, Ridley Scott has always said "If you can do it in-camera, do it in-camera". He has always been an avid supporter of physical visual effects. Yes, in recent years he has used CGI, but he has only ever used it for elements that could not or weren't viable to be done practically (the stadium in Gladiator, the crash in Black Hawk Down). What I think we will see is elements that Ridley discusses in the DVD commentary for Alien, that he would have liked to do first time round - the omni-sexuality of a deep space crew, the more perverse elements of the xeno's behaviour, the pyramid and urn idea, the benign nature of the SJ's, the creation of the xeno's by the SJ's, the selfish and deviant nature of a corporate future, the sexual wantings of androids etc. Speaking of which, on that last point, we have all seen the still of Theron/Rapace in hypersleep with someones hand on the cryotube... I have a strong belief that hand belongs to David (Michael Fassbender) the android, and that he holds secret sexual feelings for the woman in that cryotube, whom I suspect will be Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and I suspect is backed up by the recent HQ still where David looks in Shaws direction in the ampule room with adoration in his eyes. I sort of echo of the "magazine" scene in Alien, if you will.

actually the sexual aspect of androids is intereting, we know from aliens that older models were "twitchy" perhaps older models than was present in Alien were more twitchy again, maybe early models were made "too human" which results in a dehumanising of the the models to the point that we see Bishop in Aliens. Perhaps the whole thing with ash and the rolled up magazine (ridleys equivalent of android sex) was a leftover glitch from the attempts to eradicate thhat portion of their programming Also I'd hate to see outright "Friendly" or "Evil" jockeys, would like to see some depth there, like for example "benevolent but jealous" or "Benign to a point but intolerent of competition"

GavinPrometheus ForumWhat would dissapoint you the most?
Ah, But then we have Call that had everone, including Ripley fooled into believing she was human. I think the SJ's will be shown to be benign, but indifferent. We are after all a primitive species compared to them.
Reply
Tec-BPrometheus ForumWhat would dissapoint you the most?
yep but Call was a machine designed by machines, which is why the line was shut down, they became too human. Benign but indifferent would be fine, they don't harm us but don't help us either. All though i think a jealous "these humans are getting to close to us" idea would be interesting

I would not like to see "who is the bad guy, who is the good guy" though most people like it "simple" and "clear". But life is not simple and clear, its very complicated. Good and bad is just a point of view, an illusion created from mankind. Nature (and universe.) does not care or know about "good or bad". As the Joker said "i just DO things". So the engineers just "do" things, which are basically not bad or good. They just DO things. It does not really exist - and definitely not at the other end of a wormhole!

that's very lovecraftian and would be awesome to see, and i hope ridley does do that. Unfortunately studio's very much do have a concept of good and bad when it comes to films.. 95% of the time the good guy must be obviously good. Even Antiheroes which shouldn't be good or bad as such still manage to come out clearly dilineated. I have faith in Ridley though, he should have more than enough clout to be allowed to make the film as he see's fit

@ SF - I think you have a point, It may not be how the SJ's are portrayed, but more how they are percieved by the humans/androids that will leave us with the question - are the SJ's a helpful race, a deviant race or an indifferent race. As obi-wan said "what I told you was true, from a certain point of view", it is always about perspective.

I just hope to God this film doesn't end up like the prequel to 'The Thing'... Show us more of the remote, cold worlds that birthed the first film but don't tell us everything.

that was supposedly just badly handled though, its not knowing or exposition that's bad, its the restrospective thought later on when you realise the backstory wasn't as good as you thought it would be

1.) Poor acting from Theron 2.) Overused CG 3.) Any of the crew members surviving in unrealistic circumstances 4.) Any poorly handled (too obvious) reference to Alien 5.) Anyone mentioning the words; "Nostromo", or "Ripley" 6.) A facehugger, chestburster, original Xeno or Queen making an appearance

I agree Mentos, one thing I hate if not the most is when a sequel or prequel or any film thats related to another series rips off classic scenes from the film or tries to rein-act the same scene/scenes over again. I have faith and trust in Ridley that he will make something original. The fact that H.R. Giger came back to do the set design and creature effects is also a plus. Ridley is a genius and an incredible filmmaker, so I'm not very concerned with any kind of poor scripting or acting. I'm pretty sure as well that there most likely won't be any references put into the movie regarding "Ripley" or the "Nostromo" nor any of the other plot elements from the other Alien movies, considering that the storyline in Prometheus takes place 30 years before the birth of Ellen Ripley. The only possible plot element they could use is the planet LV-426 where the Space Jockey and the derelict ship landed in the first Alien film and even then the Space Jockey is dead due to an Alien bursting out of its chest.

i think that you are presuming a bit too much ...to me fassbender is explaining something to rapace ...to be honest i dont see sexual interest in that face expression ( its the same expression i do when i ask for bread to the hairy guy in the shop ..now im worried ) ... the hand on the cryo can be the one of Marshall Green that is worried for her ... i know that is very funny to try to undersant what is going on but lets not exhagerate huh ...

Vickers IS an android, she's the second one, we found this out somewhere I forget where and how but it has to be her. I think we found something where she even suggests it's the case. Bottom line...one of those two Androids is a plant from "The Company" !!! Or both are but only one of them has "another agenda" !!! I am betting it's Vickers!
