I think I got this now The guy who played Apone, Al Mathews, was in the Military...a Marine I think... and then became an actor playing a military man. Weaver played a nobody hunting a Queen Alien and is now known with the nickname now as the "Queen of Science Fiction".

Silly question but is the director of the film at all responsible for the trailer?

Not normally, it's the studio usually, hence why bad films always have the best parts in the trailer, and really bad films just give you a summary of the film. Saying that, am unsure as to whether ridley had anything to do with trailers in his earlier films, after all he did start out in commercials. See the thread entitled "Ridley Scotts Debut"

Scott does watch the trailer. In the documentary about Kingdom of Heaven, Scott was approving the trailer for the film so I am sure that his hand blessed this trailer, he wants to make sure that everything rolls good for the film...after all, his name is on it.

good stuff, does seem like a quality trailer, plenty of hints and teases without giving any of the plot away

I agree Cain1977, & that's the point, his "name is on it". It would be unwise of any director not to, because the trailer, like the film is an overall reflection of HIS/HER efforts and overall guidance and work on the piece in question, it is his own/their own reputation{s} on the line on top of everyone else who is involved so any good director would I feel take an active interest in the trailer content and version releases.

I agree with you Frantz but what I mainly was referring to was the film itself. I hope its rated "R"..I mean a PG-13 rating for an Alien film....come on now.

Its hard to know if its out tomorrow or not...On one hand you would think there would be an announcement stating that its online tomorrow....y'know grabbing headlines about how servers crashed because of it? Or is it just gonna show up because lets face it the word of mouth will do the marketing campaign if it just does "show up"..??

Good idea. I will definitively view it multiple times. No doubt. The trailer will give us some kind of idea of what to expect. Lets just cross our fingers thats its online tomorrow. Worst case scenario is that we will have to wait.

Its a bit weird is it not that if we're getting a trailer tomorrow we have no "Official" site up yet?

Do a domain search, something might come up. Unless they're gonna post it on Fox's site?

Maybe an Apple exclusive...or Yahoo...followed by the site launch. Though all of the "Official" releases of pics and articles have been to 3rd party outlets. Im surprised that fox have not got a site up and running even for leaks of info...pics and then a build up to trailer release?

One word - Viral. Ridley is probably aware of how effect Viral marketing campaigns can be, why set up a site now when he'll know that should a trailer be released tomorrow, people like ourselves will share it and send to everyone and every site and every forum and every social network we know. We will be the most effective distributors of the trailer, and it cost's them nothing.

You want an uplifting ending Frantz? I hear that...but I am not so sure that's what we're gonna get! "Bleak" has been the word I heard tossed around. But If I try hard enough maybe I can in fact see these overtly huge entities , "The Engineers", suddenly riddled with strong bouts or human like "Morality". Probably not though! I feel both the Alien Creatures' very nature from the first 4 films...suggests there's no way. and Ian Holms' Character "ASH" summed this up the best... After it was told..."You Admire it" by Lambert or Ripley I think it was, when it said... ... "I admire it's purity. A survivor, unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality..." "Delusions of Morality" Even though that line was uttered 33 years ago, hold on to your hat, because I think that concept is going to be even further ingrained within Prometheus.

I don't want a nice ending, I know it sounds harsh but I want pretty much everyone dead by the end of the film.

EP, I'm right with you, everyone dead by lights up! it never gets back to earth other than minor bits and pieces of info hence redirecting the nostromo :) I don't understand this fear hollywood can have of wiping everyone out. Ridley wasn't allowed to, at least cameron did Ridley the service of making RIpley severly damaged goods after she woke up

The best ending for me would be Shaw or David being the only survivor becoming the new "Pilot" for the derelict.

In the comic con footage of Ridley in Iceland he says that he is almost finished shooting, and the waterfall backdrop that are his last shots will in fact be the opening of the film. But Rapace is on set with him, so is she just doing pick ups there, or is she going to be featured in some way at the begining of the film too? Does this mean there will in fact be some kind of time travel/imbalance in the film???? ..in underwear or not?

I dont see the point to have a bleak ending ..people think its "cool" but soon after they forget the movie ..plus there was never a ridley scott movie with a bleak ending ? IT dont make me be more "cool" watching a bad ending , are others things that make a man "cool" and the first one is not being "cool" ( cos is kiddish ) . I find the whole "i want to see all dead , tortured ...perverse things to them ...no survivors ... " a bit hummm ...i will not say that ...btw is NOT ridley scott ...is a bit like the kid that found pleasure being sadic ... you make him understand thats not the way to be. and all that things would not make the movie more adult ...we are at the ASBURD that the R movies are for teens ( that are not able to follow a decent plot and want to see gore and sex ) and PG13 are for adults ( that have sex in real life and dont need to watch it on the screen )

Ok Frantz, I understand what your saying and I have much respect for it but I have to say this.... What would make this film "Less Adult", is the notion that it would have a happy ending. This film is about some DARK stuff Frantz, it's just not going to have a fairy tale finish. But I respect very much that idea you are presenting, and if there were a way to perhaps end this thing with some sort of hopefull message for Humanity like say at the end of the follow up film to "2001; a space odyssey" ..."2010" in which the Aliens send/ write a message across the spatial sky, with a severe warning, and a message of hope for the future ,and directions for the future exploration of Space...I would be All For It ! But I am not expecting it! Scott himself, in "Alien", was very very nastily Bleak and in fact wrote a much bleaker ending for the film Alien which the studios would not let him shoot...this time the studios are cow towing to Scott and if he wants he can scrap the studio, make this thing himself with Giger using his own money and release it however he wishes, but he didn't do that because he just told the studio how it was this time and they agreed to allow him to have full creative control, which does not bode well for you here.... My understanding is the studios are already trying to take out some of what he short for the film because of it's "bleakly suggestive and sexually deviant nature". Gladiator ended with our Hero Dying. Happy yes, but he still died. Blade runner ended with Nothing solved and even more questions than answers. It was a satisfying finish yes, but still, way more questions than answers there. In fact the only Ridley Scott film I have ever seen with a happy uplifting ending was Black Rain and that was ONLY after a very hard core violence filled conclusion. Ridley Scott seems to always go with whatever seems most realistic for the situation at hand and in this case...I fear...the message is..."Mankind is in Trouble" !!! I would dearly love if what you are wanting happens. I would love to see an uplifting message of hope, but I think in the end it would be very unrealistic of me to expect one, and especially given the subject matter of this film, the creatures it presents, and what we know of their history and origins!!! Juts My opinion. I want you to get your wish, I just don't see how that's gonna happen!!!

I agree, it does deal with some very intense things. But if the story is good, and they way Scott lights it, i think it can be told without an R rating. But not sure on the PG-13, yes it will get bums on seats and I am cynical I think studios are out to produce products that will make a return regardless of story. I do not believe all their hyperbole about story being paramount sometimes.....its ALL about the bottom line. I just dont see how they can deliver a scary/thriller and have it at PG-13. That dont mean it has to have nudity or shit like that, but its a thriller/horror yes? So theres gonna have to be stuff in there that will freak a 13 yr old? That is my biggest concern...I dont mind about the PG-13 cut so much as long as their is an extended cut with everything in it needed to deliver on a great thriller format. Now I know great thrillers dont need to be 18 or R rated...like Hitchcock..tinker tailor(film and BBC version) and various others. But whatever they may say ,this is connected to the Alien universe...Scott has said he wants to scare the shit out of us, that being the case I dont see a way to do it at PG-13?...

I typed THIS into google just now.. "Ridley Scott on Upliftng Endings" What I discovered is that on just about every film he put out that had one, it was ONLY after the Studios forced him to. They did it for Blade Runner and did it for Legend and he even said he wanted things to end differently for Thelma and Louise, who although triumph, they do it by Killing themselves and that's still pretty Bleak if you ask me. My point is he never wants to end things that way, but it is rather the studios that do and force their directors to. He is a brilliant and wise director though, one of the best out there all time, and if it makes sense I would welcome such an ending with open arms...and there's one last thing... I feel you hit on something very important here, and it might help him to have a message of Hope for Humanity at the end of this thing, heck it might even help it's box office...if it can be done in a away that makes sense fits the films flow, and more importantly just plain works.
