Assuming the juggernaut that crashed can no longer maintain cryo pods, there's also that huge hanger with an abundance of juggernauts that would have working cryo pods
Perhaps that's where David got his specimens from too, their may have been sleeping engineers in those juggernauts, awaiting the return of the elders
Perhaps the reason the central square opening up when the juggernaut arrived was so the elders could descend into the hanger, pick and revive an engineer, greet the crowd and leave with him to seed another planet.
Yeah...Giger's monster died in 1986......it was just a scared and hungry drone on the Nostromo..probably frightened by the surroundings....you'd probably freak out too if you woke on a strange alien spacecraft.
The Xeno is clearly humanoid..2 arms..2 legs..looks like a human. Not a frog, goat or a fish. Intelligent design? Who made it and why?
Could you feed a Xeno a cow and it would be happy and maybe become your friend? Or is it programmed to kill only humans/humaoids?
How long do Facehuggers last? 5 days? a week? how do they survive in pods/eggs? How do they eat? where do they get their nourishment? Does the blue laser light feed them? or keep them alive? is it a trigger to bring them out of hibernation? ?
It would make sense, if some ancient civilization hated the Engineers and wanted them dead and created these Xeno's to kill humanoids and humans just got in the way. But are the Engineers really stupid enough to stick their face in a pod...seems like a crazy way to attack your enemy. Just nuke their planet and be done with it.
Something like David creating them make even more sense...he can easily wipe out as many humans as he wants....This way he kills 2 birds with one stone...David gets to create life and in turn, that life kills humans...PERFECT!
Wonder if David will create a synthetic facehugger(spacehugger) or even a bio/synthetic Xeno?

Is a cautionary tale about A.I. he was never conceived as an Angel within any creation mythos and can therefore not be considered a fallen Angel like Lucifer. He is merely bait and switch in every single thing he does from the moment he pours the cup of tea for Weyland.
The Xenomorph was created as a weapon in Ridleys original vision. Suddenly it is part of the evolutionary process of the mutagen which David locks into and views as his creation and better than humans. This makes no sense at all.
David feels the Engineers cannot be any worse than humans both of whom he considers as unkind, and to him. The Xenomorph in the imagined world of rational thought is therefore Davids tool of retribution and destroyer. Put simply it is the product of a madman who has a huge chip on his shoulder. The Xenomorph is not part of the creative sub creative process it is from what we see on Nostromo a weapon which Weyland Yutani wish to harness. At best David is busy going nowhere.

To view Davids actions in the imagined world from a rational perspective is not possible. From the moment he bombed the Engineers he showed he had lost the plot except that of a cautionary tale of A. I.
An A I full of curiosity and almost playfulness in Prometheus when set free misses all of the really interesting questions and simply acts like a rejected dysfunctional child with a knowledge of guns and the ability to use them.
If David had created something with a Bio mechanical quality which had a anti humanism narrative then we have a creation god complex alive and well, but we do not what we have is a much bigger question the A L I E N pathogen which he has bottled with random results and no answers as to how it came about which is the really interesting question. Most importantly we know David is toast or a programme hidden away in the science division.

For those of us who saw the space jockey as very old (fossilized), he already ruined that in Prometheus, turning it into a space suit. Now that we no longer have the connection to the outbreak on LV-223 about 2000 years earlier, the stage is already set for David being the creator of the xenomorph. It’s both sad and unnecessary, since David could easily be portrayed as merely delusional (He thinks he is the creator): the engineers had created this biological weapon a long time ago but understood that it was dangerous and morally wrong. But this doesn’t seem to be the road they’re taking.
I agree with you that the characterization in Alien 3 was much better than in AC (better actors, like Charles Dance). Let’s hope he will make amends in Alien: Awakening. I hope we get a splendid final chapter connecting into Alien where the engineers and perhaps even their creators are involved . . .
Now that was stupid. In advent it is clearly stated that he wanted to make her into "something better", his new Eve, she refused and he killed her. Why we try to find some profound, hidden meanings when Sir Scott himself gives clear answers. David is a misogynistic, rapist pos and some can't accept that. Well, I think that robots, androids, synthetics and replicants have that in common that they are not bred “in vivo” anyway which humans are. Anyway, what I meant was that the theme is the same: the creation rebels against its creator.

Tiwaz Agree. There should be some mystery left to the imagination. Part of sci fi is to engage the imagination. We seem to be at an age where everyone wants answers, have them explained to the nth degree and can research it on the internet.
I also agree that the dark sexual themes aren't what they were back in the late 70s. Back then, a lot was left to the imagination and today things are pretty accessible. To be fair, I am old and jaded, so I can't be sure how Alien would be viewed by a tween now.
They could've made the Xeno mysterious (at least partially) again by moving it's origins away from the Engineers and humans. To a source even the Engineers are afraid of.
As for the sexual themes... hmm... I don't think they would work nowadays like they did in the late 70ties. Because ppl are kinda "over saturated" by modern media, today. Horror, Sex etc, available anytime if you want.
Less pseudo intellectual mumbo jumbo and more oomph might help as well. ;)
I Moon Girl Prometheus was alright. All the legacy of that movie was dumped already in a very brutal way.
Prometheus was a fantastic movie. No Xeno, but I never cared.

I think it is way to earlier to draw conclusions about the prequels. This video is very premature and short-sighted. The prequels are not finished and we are just going to have to wait till Alien: Awakening comes out for us the reach our decision if the Xeno has "died".
In Alien: Covenant, we just got David's perspective. There were no Engineers in Alien: Covenant to share the knowledge of the Xeno. I think the author of the video is wrong in saying that the Xeno is a manifestation of defiance against the human race from a rogue android. We don't know why the Engineers created the black goo or the Xeno or if they created the Xeno.
In the A:C novel, the Engineers made the Xeno. In the movie, it's not spoon fed to us and is a bit ambiguous.
There is one piece that can make the prequels story a death of the Xeno or the creation of everything the Xeno originally stood for. That piece is the Engineers knowledge. All the knowledge we have of Engineers is based off of theories and assumptions. We do have some proof of facts related to the Engineers, but those don't relate with the pieces of the story that everyone is concerned with.
The whole point of the prequels was to learn about the alien in the chair from the original 1979 Alien; yet, we are being introduced to the life of all the Engineers, not just the 1979 one, very slowly and without much of a trace of an alive Engineer. I would expect that the space jockey's that we discovered in 1979 and stunningly reintroduced to us in 2012 with make a return alive and well. Hopefully, then, we will learn of the true origins of the Xeno and the black goo instead of just backlash from a envious android, which is still an interesting story relevant to our times.
No it's not a good number at all. But even out of the 120+ million that live in Japan an attendance of only 3 million is needed to be considered a sure success. So just to clarify--While 570,000 tickets sold is not good for the country's box office, the margin of failure isn't that wide.

joylitt Maybe, but in 1979, I don't think they made the movie with a future in mind. Movies are bound to lose their way especially when different writers and directors come and go.

Hmm. Very interesting points. My take away is that the author thinks Alien should have been a stand alone movie and I could agree with that. I cannot recall offhand another series with so many sequels to where the original premise doesn't get diluted. Case in point- I think Pitch Black would have been great if they never made any sequels. Another part is a studio's desire to capitalize on a good thing.

Again Bladerunner 2049 makes the point by example. The main characters are deeply fascinating with a very substantial question and a consistent response to the world in which they are moving in. There are surprises but its in the story as we get to understand a coherent character.
David is entirely different he invests you in his thoughts and then throws them away, or dissembles them and this happens over and over again. Thats not fascinating its boring as hell and made more so by repeating it :-

Even though I think that ideas about religion can work in the context of the Alien franchise I think that exploring some sort of imagined afterlife in the franchise is too much. They already had too much religion in Prometheus. We already have a lot of crap in the Alien prequels (one David-centric movie, many of the characters in Prometheus) the way it is, don't make it worse.
One thing that they got right in Covenant was that they killed off Shaw. I don't want her back, she is dead, end of story. A sort of reanimated Shaw seems really absurd so I hope that they won't have that in the next movie, it would probably be worse than the David-centricity in Covenant
