I would love to see Fassbender play The Dr....

I think if they ever did any more Batman movies that Fassbender would make a Excellent  Riddler.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumWhat is the difference between Digital HD and DVD

As pointed out above ^^^^

Blu-ray runs at a higher resolution and due to larger storage on the Discs, they can also hold more Extras.

In regards to Digital HD, i think you are referring to the ability you get with some DVD/Blu-ray Purchases to have a Free Digital Copy, you will have a CODE usually with the DVD/Blu-ray and they give you a website to then download a Copy of the Movie that you can use on a Computer or other Medium, Tablet/Phone and some DVD/Blu-ray players.

The Digital Downloads usually come as just the movie alone and most commonly were available in 720P and 1080P Formats.

@Chli

Thanks for picking up on my allusions which were a nod to classical drama and tragedy. Those were just musings whilst I was having coffee the other day.

Several points come from your interesting reply.

What the Alien series desperately needs is a coherent sense of development where the themes reach some kind of resolution and "Outcome". Why people club the first three together is they had a connective theme - Ripley's transformational journey and sacrifice not all of the films were consistent in other ways but the  three had a back bone a spine of a story.

Prometheus was intended to create a broad creation mythos into which the Alien Pathogen intervened and out of which came Xeno strain outcomes including the creature.

Covenant interrupts that enquiry and makes Davids journey the back bone out of which the creature is created. Shaw belongs (your right about her name of course) to the broad mythos story and is the mediator of that story from man kinds perspective. She was the symbol for faith based exploration of our origins. That she was barren and made fertile and gave birth on christmas day is quite obviously a riff on the Annunciation. The message is have faith and wait and see what happens, she was as much to blame for the disastrous outcome as Sir Peter, who not only wanted his answers but to cheat them.

By killing off Elizabeth that weight of narrative momentum has been sunk (Mankind and robot co dependent seeking answers with different agendas) and we are in start again mode with only Tennessee possibly surviving the Covenant story.

All we have is David as the unreliable narrator and we move toward Origae 6 knowing diddly squat about anything other than what Ridley has said in interviews and what we have already guessed. I always accepted Damon's view the Black Goo is a Xeno Mutagen but I still have no certain understanding of the meaning of the prologue and all that means for the Engineers.

My reason therefore for offering a classical drama for the follow up was so that we could explore the mythos and find out so much more from two conflicting personalities in a Co Dependent Relationship.

Just finally on Elizabeth and the impact of the insemination by Charlie and resultant Trilobite. This is science fiction and if you look at many scenes after the caesarian she continuously suffers and in the Crossing she is sweating. That COULD have been used to build an end game for her where in the follow up she finds all her answers and then like the Acolyte at the beginning of the story returns herself to the earth and ingests the catalyser (which they find) bringing creationism full circle and cleansing the mutagen for her. Shaw's sacrifice (in order to create first you must destroy) can then be seen as her undoing the interventions of both the fallen angel engineers and Peter Weyland and restoring the creative intent of the Gods. David finally understands the capacity of grace of mankind and finds wisdom and can see his redemption in this and switches himself off and in the final scene of the movie the teardrop ship returns and takes Davids remains away leaving behind technology that builds on Shaw's re creational act and leads the to the terraforming of Paradise (something in early versions of the story they were able to do).

However the cat out of the bag is the corrupted space jockey who lies busted on LV 426 ready for Cain. Incidentally given I was and still am thinking aloud, making that mission simply this Jockey and his particular weapon he created  on course for somewhere and he gets busted makes sense and is better than my idea.

In a way I think it’s the right way to go, ending the focus on Shaw. Alien has become a saga, spanning over many years and generations (even millennia in a broader sense). To get the sense of a larger spectrum, dealing with the eternal, ultimate questions, you need to move the relay-race baton forward, as it were. The Alien Universe and the problems and questions remain, but new characters tackle them: Shaw, Daniels, a new heroine on The Covenant, Ripley, Newt . . . ?

It would, but honestly the game is enough. Speaking of which, I just watched it all the other day, someone cut the story into a movie and i'm glad because i've had the game and all it's DLC since day one but have been unable to play it since it scares the living shit out of me, lol.

Here's the full "movie", enjoy!

dk I remember something about that too. They didn't want the silhouette to look too humanoid, so when you see glimpses of it in ALIEN you know its not human. The tubes break up the human shape.

I always assumed it was some type of sensory organ for vibrations or "micro changes in air density" ;p

We have discussed this before and yes, it could be a great movie! It could be a good story between Alien and Aliens.

Amanda doesn't need to die. She could float in space and get found like the game suggests. Also, the working Joes could make an interesting dynamic.

AC seems so focused on symbolism and bad characters/not believable that I just have zero faith in Ridley beyond audio/visual. I hope we do get a sequel as I think everything is salvageable. The black goo is now the ultimate terror in the galaxy so I don't know how you turn the clock back on that. It's just going to take a jedi quality script and considering those great minds seem impossible to find post O'Bannon/Shusset/Giler & J.Cameron! Or is it a master story telling director who's needed that can collaborate with all the ingredient makers/peers to make something special and lasting?  I want believable characters with limited tropes and a well paced and compacted script. Really disappointed but I and others have to bide their time in this beloved franchise. Brighter days ahead, surely.

Lawrence of Arabia, oh yeah homages and connectivity to the movies so far is good, it's just that they were packed hardcore and rather obviously into Covenant, plus with Promethean stuff going on and the Covenant making it's own thing, there was just SO much going on. I don't support retconning anything, or forgetting anything, I just didn't like how it all turned out (Well, I did like it. I like the movie, I just think it could have come across better.)

This is another one of those things that I won't, like, argue with anyone though, you know? It is super subjective and doesn't really have much to do with continuity, plot, or whatever, so yeah.

Yes! I am playing it again for the umpteenth time and am in reactor maintenance, What went down on sevastopol after the anesiadora showed up would make a great story, the residents of the station disappearing one by one with people wondering whats going on, then everything descending into anarchy, i bought the the art of alien:isolation and according to the story writers a lot went down on the station before the torrens arrived so you could make a trilogy out of it, but yes TtU, it would make a hell of a movie.

The Engineers suits always remind me of the Centurions Cartoon

Where their suits are Bio-Mechanical Versions of these, that allow the Engineers to connect with their Technology/Ships

I see like 10 such connection holes on the Engineers suits, 6 on the lower back area, and two on the sides and two in the lower midsection.

I have a 10 year old PC that wont play the game, and a PS3 and Xbox 360 and i think you can get the game on those systems but i think a PS4 would do it more justice... i never invested in a new console as i hardly play the others...   i buy a lot of games before that like my movies stay sealed in boxes lol

I have spent most the last 2-3 years playing Doom 64 and Doom 1+2 lol  Oh and Advanced Wars on the GBA...   i had a 3DS when they came out and have 7 games for it but only ever opened and played Street Fighter twice on it lol

If you look closely on the engineers suit when he gets out of his crypod when he gets woken by david and company, there are 4 round holes on the back of his suit positioned roughly where those tubes are located, maybe they are mutations of those holes?, ridley said they are organic suits - just speculating, but those tubes could be anything.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant Forumwhat i think the next alien movie needs to have.

1) I agree with this, i think a bit more information is needed, but i think there was a number of clues, just not easy to work out.  I think the Engineers will appear but as RS has said its TWO more movies to Alien, i dont think we would be getting to many Answers in the next one.

But the 3rd Alien Prequel i think will surely have to give us a bit more information because unless the Derelict is a Ancient Event prior to Prometheus, they have to end up back close to LV-426 which means LV-223 and also if the Space Jockey is a Engineer then Engineers would have to return to this area (Zeta 2 Reticuli)  as i would find it a bit of a Coincidence the Engineers head to Earth and just happen to pass this System and crash there.

2) Some felt the Xenomorph was rushed in AC, some wanted to see it more... some felt showing it too much Hurts it, i think it depends if your more the Alien Fan or Aliens Fan.... RS was not a fan of how Aliens and Alien R handled the Xenomorph he said they was Shoot-em-ups... he preferred the more Horror Approach.

Considering David only has TWO Face Huggers means we will only see TWO Xenomorphs, unless they explore how these Can Procreate to Create More Eggs.  I think AC as far as Neomorph/Xenomorph attacks was just about right, a lot depends how the 3-4 Factions which include Engineers interact and who fights with who and how... as to how much Xenomorph Screen time we shall get... hopefully its not a Aliens or Alien R kind of over the top multiple Xeno Fodder Flick

3) I think they tried this with the slow build up in Alien Covenant, this suffered latter as this build up left less time to cover the Prometheus/David parts and introduce the Xenomorph parts.   They are going to have their work cut out covering 3-4 factions and building up a decent amount of back story to these....

If you meant suspense as in the Horror/Threat Element then indeed it all happened fast and the only part like this was the Lope Xenomorph but this was rushed..   I think maybe we could see some tense scenes and suspense, as David is alone and awake after all, while the rest of the crew are in Cryo-sleep... so they are all Pawns to Davids Game/Agenda.  This would make some tense scenes and suspense but then if they are introducing 3-4 Factions includes the Engineers, its a case of how do they fit all these in?

4)  Totally Agree.. nothing more needs to be said on this one, they showed and marketed way to much.

5) I think the Story is important but this could be tricky, the movie is likely to follow David and the Covenant as it heads towards Origae-6... its a case of does any action take place on the Covenant?  Or do we see it take place after the Colony sets up shop on Origae-6 and do not suspect David at all.

The movie will eventually lead to Alien, it appears David does create those Eggs on the Derelict and the Engineers are returning and i think potentially the movie will lead to the next one where we will see how these Eggs get on the Derelict and how the Pilot is.. and i think a Engineer or related has to be the more preferred route.

Introducing another 2-3 Factions/Players is also going to be interesting who these are and how they fit all within the Time-line.

I Moon GirlAlien: Covenant ForumDoes anybody know the answers?

David is quoted in saying, "I understand human emotions, although I do not feel them myself.  This allows me to be more efficient and capable, and makes it easier for my human counterparts to interact with me."  This was in the David interview Prometheus commercial that I found on youtube.com.  Walter was made to be even more efficient and less free-thinking so that they will operate within their programming.  I don't know why they would allow a Walter model to feel emotions even though they would understand them.

By the way, I like reading your analysis of the story.  Very descriptive and interesting.  This is a good discussion!

I can see what you are talking about, as far as i remember indeed it was hard to see the Spines on the Neomorph that came from Hallets Mouth, compared to the Spines on the back of the one that used them to break out of Ledwood.

So i can see your point, and its a nice theory, one that could be a good explanation..

However the Neomorph in the Wheat Field Attack had spines, but then again this could be Ledwoods and not Hallets Neomorph

I cant recall if its had and how large the spines on the latter one that crawled up the Cathedral had, because i only saw the movie 3 times at the Box Office.  But i would assume this was the one that attacked Rosenthal and so indeed had Spines.

from the Concept works though, i will assume they are supposed to all be the same/similar and so that both Neomorphs would have grown Spines.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant Forumwhat are those tubes on the xenomorphs back even for anyway?

Its very open for debate...

Likely reasons would indeed be..

1) Some kind of Breathing/Filtering Apparatus

2) Someway to secret Resign to Build Nests, Cocoon Hosts.

Problems with this are from Aliens and Alien 3.

a) The Queen does not have them, so maybe they are no kind of Breathing/Filtering Function. Yet the Queen was in the same Environment as the Xenomorphs.

b)The Runner from Alien 3 did not have them, and so we could think its because the World it was birthed from had breathable atmosphere?  But then this brings me to the first Point A)

Do we have to ask what the purpose of the Organism was?

It appears to kill and Procreate, and so then if this is what the Drone in Alien was doing, and if the Tubes are needed to create a Nest/Cocoon Hosts then we have to ask would this not be the purpose of the Runner... to Procreate?  And so why does the Runner not have these if these are used to Cocoon Hosts etc?

A thing to consider is Ripley is carrying a Queen and so maybe Pheromones and what not that affected the other Face Hugger and what kind of Organism it Produced,  getting some kind of Signals that a Queen is hosted inside another Organism, maybe the other Face Hugger did not require a Drone like in Alien?

But then if the Tubes are effected by a Queen, then why did the Drone in Alien have them...

So yeah.. really Good Question, and one that we can have some ideas but then when we look at the Runner and Queen it raises some Questions.

I would say i will have to Pass no this one ;)

SM no doubt would have been better to ask ;)

Something Real here's the plot synapsis for Doom:

"Martian chromosome (called C24) they found and synthesized from the bones discovered, and that not all of those infected will fully transform into creatures. Some of those infected develop superhuman abilities"

How the hell (pardon the pun) does this have anything to do with Doom?

Basically Imps =  Mars zombies

not cool.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant Forumxenomorph vs neomorph. Who would win

Its a interesting thing to debate and we really dont have not complete DATA to discus how and who would come on top or who would be the more deadlier... depending on enviroment

What i mean is we dont know how a Neomorph Senses its environment and so we cant see if the Xenomorphs darker color would be a advantage in a dark location.

We do not know for sure if the Neomorph has Acid Blood, but we see no evidence to say it does, and so we maybe have to consider it does not.  So the Acid Blood does prove a great defense especially against close range attacks which is all the Neomorph is capable of.

SPEED/AGILITY

Overall from what the Franchise showed us and AC, then it appears the Neomorphs are quicker and more agile, by about 25% to 50% i would assume.  This would be a advantage to the Neomorph.

Xeno 7 vs  Neo 8

STRENGTH/DAMAGE

The Xenomorph is slightly bigger but we can see the Neormorph is Strong too, the Neomorph struggled to kill in the Wheat Field it was held off, but it was not fully grown yet.  A Xenomorph Adult makes short work of its victims.   I would say the Claws and Tail are more deadly on a Xenomorph and it has a 25-50% more chance of causing Harm to a Target i would assume.

But the Neomorphs Jaw/Mouth attack was able to cleanly bit from the shoulder/neck Rosenthalls head off with more ease than a Xenomorphs Jaw attack does which is a Puncture wound, but then the Xenomorphs outer Teeth could pose the same, so i would think from Bite Attacks they are equally Deadly

Xeno 8 vs Neo 7

DEFENSE/ARMOUR

The Neomorph did take a lot of shots, and it depends what we call upon to compare, we cant say Alien as the Xenomorph was not tested as such,  Aliens the Weapons was more Advanced, but lets not forget a Standard Shotgun and Pistol also did some Damage.

I will say the Neomorph can take more damage to put down, but the Xenomorph Benefits from more Armored Exoskeleton and so i think this comes to again.

Xenomorph 7 vs Neomorph 7

But the Benefit of Acid Blood, means a Neomorph wounding a Xenomorph risks taking Damage from the Acid and so this Bonus, does help the Xenomorph despite only being a Advantage when wounded and so i should add a Point for.

Xeno 8 vs Neo 7

So Total IMO is

Xenomorph 23/30  Neomorph 22/30

However i think we have not seen enough to judge really much, but i cant see the Neomorph improving and i think potentially maybe the Xenomorph could have been given a extra point for attack too... so maybe more a 24/30 vs 22/30

interesting the Novel covered the Fight, and i agree the Xenomorph would likely come out on top, i think the Armour and Acid being a Key Advantage.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant Forumwhy the ultramorph needs to be in alien awakening.

The Ultramorph from Spaights Alien: Engineers had a number of concepts.

Reading the Draft, the description fits more with the Top TWO Designs that are like re-designs of Necromom 4, and apparently if the Source i had 2.5 years plus ago was correct then Prometheus 2 was indeed going to show us the Ultramorph.

I think there is a good chance we will see a Xenomorph type Organism that comes from a Engineer Host, and while the Ultramorph would have been 16-18ft tall, we have to remember it came from a 12-15ft  Engineer.

So i think unless its shown as coming from a different kind of Egg, then i would would assume a Organism Born from a Engineer would stand fully grown 25-30% Taller than a Engineer Host... so the Ultramorph would depend on how big the Engineers are.

So a typical one from a LV-223 Engineer would be about 10ft tall lets say..... but if we are shown a Race of Engineer related beings who are 10-12ft tall then yeah i guess we could see a 14-16ft Ultramorph.

With TWO Prequels to connect to Alien, i think the next will only show us the Seeds to come.. and i think Ultimately these Events could lead to going to LV-223 for some reason in the 3rd Prequel where the end of this will Tie in to the Derelict and Alien.

Something Real I agree about the Doom film. Instead of just giving us the original portal found on mars to hell = demons story, they tried to make up some Resident Evil style storyline that just didn't work. They should've just followed Doom 3, it had a robust enough storyline to adapt to a film.

@cuponator3000 What I enjoyed most out of Covenant was that it homaged the previous movies a lot. While it may have worked to it's detriment, it said to me that Ridley isn't going to retcon anything but embrace their zany history. I thought it was a great start to the new trilogy of films, start out on familiar territory before branching towards something new. That's my opinion though lol I'm sure the next chapter will take us in a new direction and will provide more info on the Engineers. I also agree with you on the Xenomorph, showing less isn't more imo, it's about execution. The Xenomorph is a beautiful creature and deserves to be seen!

I like all the points you made here, Timmy. The only one I could argue is the Alien not being shown as much. I think it can work if we see it. Maybe handled differently than it's scenes in Covenant, but still. I think the next film comes down to focus. Covenant ended up being the result of an attempt to be connected to Prometheus, while also forgetting Prometheus, be like the Alien films we have already seen, and also be it's own thing. It was too much. You have to pick one or two of those elements to REALLY make the film and then maybe sprinkle the others (or don't worry about it.) Mashing everything together doesn't usually please everybody.

Reply
cuponator3000Alien: Covenant Forumwould alien isolation make a good movie?

Well, the main problem would be that you have to shorten it SIGNIFICANTLY. I think that it would be best as a film if it did retain the three different sections (Like, the first was getting on Sevastapol and killing the Alien, then the long android section, then the multiple alien section), but each would have to be shortened super hard.

That wouldn't be too hard, a competent film could be made without showing every task we had to complete. I think the real trouble would just be how you handle the Alien's appearances. For the game, it drops down at certain moments and then hangs around for, like, ever, and you just have to sit and hide. You would have to completely change that aspect and make it more like Alien, where after an encounter or two, Amanada is running around with the fear that it might show up. Even if it showed up a bit more often, Amanada couldn't just hide ina locker for ten minutes everytime. I think the first act and second act of the game would have to be structured a little bit differently to really make the film work.

Overall, yes Isolation would make a good film. It would just require a little reworking.

In the Script for Alien Resurrection the tubes on the Xenomorph's back were used to spit globs of resin that the aliens used in cocooning and making Hives.

Hmmm.. I agree, except I don't think it HAS to. It is almost necessary, but we could be fine with just Xenos or maybe another variation David somehow creates. Still, I think you make a lot of good points and it could be really frightening to have a giant xenomorph chasing someone. It would be similiar to when Ripley and Newt were waiting for the elevator and the Queen was aproaching or even in the game, Aliens: Colonial Marines, when the Raven is chasing the player and they have to seal the doors behind them.
