I think certainly the Engineers should be more Powerful but i agree we dont need to see no Super Humanoids from the Planet Krypton ;)

Maybe that explains the Planet 4 Engineers? As in the Superman Universe back on their Homeworld the Race from Krypton are no better/stronger than Humans LOL

I think the Engineers have to be about 2-3X Stronger, certainly twice... and then the LV-223 Engineers need to be revealed as Genetically Engineered Engineers.

So a Typical Engineer vs a Human would be like a Typical Adult Human vs a 9-11 year old....   and a LV-223 Engineer vs a Human like a Average Adult Human vs a 2-3 year old.

Then as far as the LV-223 Engineers Suits indeed they should offer a great deal of Protection, but not be completely UN-penetrable.  But i would be up for them having some kind of Shield Technology.

@daliens

I think The Predator will be released, who knows what the reasons for the Re-shoots are, but if the movie Bombs... i think Disney will be looking at the risk of doing another Predator Movie, the same goes with a Alien one after Covenant.

And so they may be tempted to release a Popcorn AVP instead.

@Thoughts_Dreams

Totally agree, we need to remember that ALIENS would not get a 18 nowadays, i mean how much more Gory was that than Alien Covenant?

I think they need to keep the Franchise to the same Gore, Foul Language etc and Horror as a Alien, Aliens and rest of the Franchise (not inc AVP) but we could include them...  We could cut back on F-Bombs and Nudity especially.

But they need to keep the Franchise aimed at older fans and kids who are 15+

While Marketing a Movie for 13 or undies would introduce the Franchise to a NEW Generation, it limits what can be done in respects to doing the Franchise Justice...

THERE IS A MASSIVE RISK

That introducing a New Generation aimed at 13 and unders could Damage the Franchise and put those who where around when the Origins were about or indeed those whole loved the Franchise who were not of viewing age in the 90's completely off EVER seeing any more after a Kiddy Friendly movie.

Then Disney would have to bank on some old school Fans still wishing to see further movies not matter how PG its getting and PRAY the 13 and unders love the Direction and will be the Basis for a Toned down, Future of the Franchise.

The Question is how CLEVER Disney are... or if they wish to try and make a Quick Cash Grab.

You mention a lot about Characters Thoughts_Dreams and you are 100% correct, we have become accustomed to Gore... movies that had Gore Alone from the 60's-80's would not effect those of the current and last few Generations... Blood Alone and Gore does not cut it.

Its the Context... and if you have NO Care for those getting Maimed or Killed then the Horror of these Scenes are just not effective... its about having Horrific things that push boundaries such as seeing Children affected, or Characters we care about.

If Ripley Survived Alien 3, and she got Chest Busted half way though Alien 4 we would have more feeling and shock compared to say how Ledwood got Back Busted, and if in Alien 3 Newt got Chest Busted or Back Busted again this would impact us more.

CHARACTERS are Paramount to a Good Movie and they have missed the Bar since after Alien 3

I certainly would like to see some ideas where you Thoughts_Dreams would take the Franchise now..  I get the feeling the Engineers where interesting to you, and i think they certainly are something that needs to be explored more.

While you may thing David is boring because he is the Product of Human Activity, we are really to the Engineers, maybe just as David is to us... The Difference being ONE Creation is Organic, the other is Synthetic,  Ridley Scott was trying to touch upon how maybe the Engineers Creations have Created something more Perfect than the Engineers did because David is more superior to us, and he has followed this up by showing us that David could control the Black Goo and Perfect its outcome more than the Engineers could.... RS was also trying to touch on what what makes a Soul, is there GOD, a After-Life,?

If there is no GOD, if we have NO After Life and when we Die we turn to Dust.... but then if a AI that is killed can have its Memories uploaded to a New Unit and AI has the capacity for very Human Emotions and then seeing themselves as Sentient... then would that not make them have Souls when we dont?

Its these things RS was touching on, but its these themes that a number of people feel should be kept to the Blade Runner Franchise.

While i can try and see where you are coming from Thoughts_Dreams i think and i dont mean no disrespect you do show how the Franchise is split...  The Franchise as a whole does open up some avenues there is a lot going on behind the scenes, the movies seemed to show us just about Ripley and Queens and Eggs, but under that there is a lot going on that has not been covered until the prequels.

Special Order 937, why Ash was fascinated with the Xenomorph, why the company would persue the Xenomorph, how the company failed to know nothing much about it..  How the Eggs got on the Sulaco.... it all just screams some Conspiracy, but why would the company do this?  Throwing the AI bone into the mix gives us something to think about.... Alien Resurrection, gave us a back ground as far as Call, that shows that AI had got out of control and AI creating AI and leaving Earth and Mankind in a State was something in the back ground...   something that could be explored.

I think the BIG theme with the Franchise and RS is Creation, Sub-Creation, Rebellion and Hubris.... Right from our Engineers, and who knows above them... down to Mankind, David and even as far as latter Androids creating other Androids.

There is a Market for a Expanded Universe that steers away from Queens, Eggs and Ripley....  which i think Prometheus had started to Explore, but in reaction to Fans wanting it to be about the Xenomorphs, we got Alien Covenant, where maybe RS as a big F-U put that David created the Xenomorph in... or maybe as he said he felt the motives just felt more sinister and fitted within the whole Creator/Creation/Rebellion and Sub-Creation/Hubris Arc.

I think the Franchise is Split... i can see RS had ideas to expand it beyond the Xenomorph which for what? 30 years RS had always seen as just a Bio-Weapon?

The Franchise is not just about the Xenomorph... and Ripley, there is quite a bit really.

Space Jockey, Race, Agenda and Purpose and why they was on LV-426

The Company Merger... what conspiracy is involved in the pursuit of the Xenomorph.

The Hubris/Effect of Creating a AI and how this can Evolve, and this is not something that Prometheus started... Alien Resurrection we see the after effects of such things.

The Story does not have to be about Ripley or some Ripley Saga were Prequels connect to Ripleys Parents and latter movies to Ripleys Off Spring.... some FANS may feel Ripley is as much to the Franchise as the Skywalkers are to Star Wars.

some hold out for the Xenormorph to not be a created Species but natural Species that have a Homeworld, Bio-Mechanical Ships etc and feel being relegated to just a Bio-Weapon is a injustice.

Ideally we need 2-3 movies that can Span different aspects of the Franchise, one to cover Xenomorphs and one to cover Engineers and one to cover the AI...

Sadly when you try and cover all 3 its hard and not everyone can be pleased.

Indeed Thoughts_Dreams i liked Re-animator but i just hope this is not the kind of explanation for the Experimented Engineers.

@Chli

Indeed the Neomorph got in and so we cant say the place is Air Tight we just need to look at logical reasons because it appears logic and coherent stories/plots go out of the window with those who worked on the Project.

I just fail to see how those Engineer Bodies are of any use at all, and if David could Resurrect them and bring their Mummified Remains Genetics back to Life in a way that they looked like fresh corpses, then WHY did David not Resurrect Dr Shaw?

If he robbed Graves they would have to be fresh.... so looking at the points you gave, indeed maybe we then have to look at EITHER some Engineers were away from the City and not infected, or there was some kind of Safety Device that turned those Engineers in the City into those Mummified Corpses.

But regardless of which... if most Food and Water Supplies where infected then over time any surviving Engineers could run out of Food/Water which would provide RIPE PICKINGS for David.

The only other explanation is either NO Explanation AKA another Oversight (something we are not meant to look at or Question) or indeed David Resurrected Dead Engineers.... with what no infection?  This is just the lazy way out.. but i dont think FOX and who they Hire really put much thought into things.

Let's consider David the reason for those situations the humans are badly equipped to handle. I think Covenant ended with a promising story for the next film. Not to mention the two mini facehuggers.

Maybe I am strange but I sort of laugh when I see the Re-animator, corpses that are given life and that start to walk seems very bizarre to me. It was a while since I watched the movie so I have forgotten a lot of it. Hopefully they will not do that in the Alien franchise because there is no way that I could take that serious.

The key thing is probably lack of coherence

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumLimits of gore

To me gore still works if it is used sparingly. If it s being used too often then it looses its effect, namely to make you feel disgust. Gore in let's say zombie movies sometimes make me feel like "yuck" but that depends on how it is done. Real life tragedies are more effective when it comes to make one feel fear.

That surgery hand with what looks to be a mix of mustard and ketchup makes me feel a bit sick when I look at it.

That looks interesting, I wonder how much it would take to kill an Engineer if you translate that to a movie. According to this comic it seems that it takes a lot but it would be boring if they would do them like supermen. Much of the time comics can not be taken as the official version.

"Sadly AC had Characters that people just did not seem to be interested in talking about, only really David and Walter stick out...."

To me that is because the writers and Scott (since he throws out ideas about the story and hence tries to affect the end result) only seemed to give a crap also about the androids but Oram was alright also. Unfortunately we did not get to know much about Daniels even though she had a better personality than Shaw. Once again they failed with the characters so they learned nothing from Prometheus about that it seems to me. No one of the characters had any traits that made them stand out compared to each-other.

Yeah Alien Covenant was more about a mad robot, which was a disappointment. It is one of the worst alien movies this far which I am sad to say although it was better than Ressurrection and AVP.

Someone needs to keep Ridley in check so we will not get a movie where David is featured in 80% of the scenes even though it is an interesting character. It should be about the human experience in situations that they are badly equipped to handle, not about a crazy robot that is playing a scientist. We need better human characters for the next movie because that has been a failure in Prometheus and Alien Covenant.

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumConcept Art for the Alien Movies To Come

I am sort of worried about the war of the worlds kind of things. If they shall reduce the role of the Xeno to being a bio-weapon then they need to make the Engineers more scary which I think is difficult to do if they will only do one or two movies. My point is that it is interesting but they should have gotten AC right if they want that to happen. Getting 50% of the prequels right while the other 50% suffer in quality is not that good.

Yes, Ridley Scott tried to tell a bigger story, added myths and mystery to the alien universe, unlike the Alien sequels that mostly exploited and cooked the xenomorph.

Aren't Prometheus and Alien Covenant the only films where the alien survives in the end (the Deacon and the facehugger embryos)?

What Blomkamp wanted to do in his Alien 5? Have Ripley shoot some more xenomorphs? How ridiculous!

Come on Disney,  let Ridley Scott make the film he is most excited about - the Alien Covenant sequel!

I see the flayed engineer as a mocking (degrading) of mankind and Sir Peter Weyland for seeing him as an equivalent of King David (the synthetic David seeing himself as superior to man and King David). It’s also, of course, a mocking of the engineers since David sees himself as superior to them as well. The flayed and stuffed engineer is an “inverted” (and degraded) engineer and King David, without skin and vital organs (like the heart). The penis being cut off is the ultimate degradation of mankind and engineers but also perhaps, in a psychoanalytical way, an act of inferiority (David himself perhaps lacking a penis but above all lacking the ability to procreate).

As for David finding living engineer specimens for his experiments I find it hard to believe since the dome wasn’t airtight at all. There were openings here and there and even the neomorph could get inside even with the door shut. I interpret David’s bombardment as a total armageddon - extinction of the engineer culture (and he will do the same to the human culture - Earth). He might, however, have been able to use some of the corpses (not so ruined) in the “dire necropolis” outside the dome, and perhaps, like Frankenstein, he robbed some graves?

If you like zombie movies you can look elsewhere. There is enough senseless crap about infinite number of things that you can kill.

One of the many reasons I don't like Aliens is because it's so dear to the redblooded redneck NRA supporters, to quote from a scene written by JC for Avatar, that was cut from the final film:

"TROOPERS issue automatic weapons and magazines to a long line of mine workers. The miners lock and load like the redblooded redneck NRA supporters they are."

After finished watching Aliens I could just throw it away with the empty bag of popcorn.

Thanks for clearing that up SM...  pretty much seems very logical date to take,  i hope they will reference this date in future movies or at least hope they dont release contradicting dates that make that date no longer applicable.

Certainly is a good lot of effort into the report....  I certainly hope when they have finished the Prequels, that maybe you and everyone connected with that Report get to make a updated one with all the New Stuff that the Prequels have shown.

It really would be awesome to have a detailed look at the Schematics for the Ships, including Technical Data, using those already available and also getting someone to make Schematics for ships not covered.

Once again... Thanks for Spam Bumb.

"The main plot point of 'Species' was not about mutation, but rather splicing Alien and Human DNA together"

Certainly Svanya, sorry for no reply back then... but when we see Mutations in Prometheus, these were the results of the Black Goo Splicing Xenomorph related DNA to other Organic Life.  The Black Goo Certainly acted as a DNA Splicing Tool... i still stand by this take on it even to this day.

We have to wonder about Davids.. Queen!

We have seen evidence of the Queen Connection via utilizing Dr Shaws Reproductive System and Egg Cells in Alien Covenant, we have seen Xenomorph Queens in Aliens and other movies.  What we have not seen is a Human that is infected to become a Hybrid of Human/Xenomorph DNA...  well we kind of did with Alien Resurrection but that Queen just looked like a normal Xenomorph Queen.

David wanted to Evolve Dr Shaw, she refused.... i wonder if Davids Ambition would be met in future and see Daniels turned into a Hybrid Egg Birthing Queen..   Some of the Dr Shaw concepts were pretty good for Alien Covenant, i feel a mixture between these and Sil from Species would be interesting.

BigDaveAlien Movies Forumwhy kill of hicks and newt in alien 3

Thanks for a Spam Bumb!

I never commented on this, i totally agree with Gavins Assessment

The main REASON could simply be down to Time Past since Aliens, as in order to have Newt Alive they would have to Cast someone else to play Newt as Carrie Henn would have been about 15 when shooting Alien 3,  she would have been 6 years older and so they would have had to cast someone else to play the 9-10 year old Girl.

Sometimes this happens....  if we was to go for a Blomkamps Alien 5, Ret-con of Alien 3, then they simply could not have this movie be a direct sequel taken a matter of weeks or months latter due to the age of the cast at present.

The Alien Franchise could face similar again if Disney Decide to not make any Alien Prequels for say 15 years, and then they go to make a Alien Covenant Sequel....  then we have Fassbender who would have to play a Android who surely would not have aged 15-20 years since Prometheus....   But alas nowadays and in 15 years we could just do some CGI work and make Davids role less....

But if Special Effects was at the level it was in 1991, then obviously pulling of a David and making him look 15 years younger would be hard to achieve.... but then they could cast a different Actor... but its the case of is this the right thing to do with the Franchise?

And so i feel similar problems had arose with Alien 3, would it had been better to do any Look-a-likes to Newt?  That limits you back in 1991 to also finding a Actress who can do the role Justice too.

While on the Subject of Look-a-likes...  If a Blomkamp  30 years latter Ret-con was made and the Torch was to be passed to Newt, as a New Action Heroine...  i certainly know ONE Carrie Henn Look-a-like.

I noticed the missing Penis, and was going to comment regarding the other thread the other day lol, but as i scrolled down i realized you pondered this too....  Maybe David finally has a Penis then lol

Looking at the Engineer Prop, then assuming the Male working on the Project is Average Height, this makes the Engineer 7ft 2" (give or take depending on the Male working on the Project) and so indeed this Height is Uniform with the Height of the Engineer in Prometheus, well its in line with Ian Whyte in the Engineer Costume.

"In one of David's notes that he wrote, while reanimating an Engineer corpse"

This is the kind of thing that BUGS me, its after they have done the draft, shot the movie, edited it and then decide to release extra material as far as content to explain the events.... and end up not really THINKING! and coming up with some pretty stupid things.

Matt Hatton did however mention in regards to Engineers and Dr Shaw about Re-Animating Corpses... so maybe it the explanation we are getting, which well the whole Advent and Davids Experimentation's are VERY  Re-Animator Franchise

Prior to the extra Material, and even Prior to the movie, i had discussed and looked at HOW David would have got Fresh Corpses.

The explanation i got was good enough to cover all bases and NOT require No Re-Animator kind of Plot... as this Plot opens up a Can of Worms (Pun intended)

How can David subdue Engineers especially Male Engineers? we also see Infants had been used too...  The Answer is simply in the Bombardment Scene and the Effects of the Bombardment and Black Goo.

We see there was a large number of Engineers close to and inside the Cathedral, and once we see the Bombardment we see many Engineers Flocking towards this Cathedral in a attempt to  escape the Onslaught brought on by David.

When discusing the Cathederal and those Bodies a long while back now, i offered some theories and also theories to how the Black Goo could have worked after seeing The Crossing Released, where i offered TWO explanations for the Dead Engineer Burnt Bodies that would make sense and not contradict anything.

1) Was the Nuclear Weapon Analogy, a Nukes Blast Radius does indeed Incinerate things at closer range, and Organisms outside of the Blast Range Suffer from Radiation Poisoning and Mutations instead....   Just as direct contact with the Radioactive Material that goes into a Atomic Bomb would.

2) That the Cathedral Dome had some kind of Energy Weapon or there was one elsewhere that was activated to let out a Energy Blast that Calcified/Mummified all Organic Flesh Matter within a certain Radius thus preventing the Spread of the Black Goo.

Either of these would have been a good explanation, rather than the Advent viral that tells us the Black Goo kind of acts differently with every unique Organism, where it can KILL THEM outright or create a Hybrid Form.  This is just a similar Half Bated Attempt to explain the Black Goo again, just like the Weyland File released after Prometheus... which contradicted a lot of what was shown.

Regardless.... if we look at my proposed ideas or not.... if we can assume the Cathedral either provided some Sanctuary or that some Engineers had been located in some outer Buildings furthest from the Bombardment or even were wondering far away from the City at the time.

If the Environment was contaminated outside including a lot of Food/Drink Supplies then over time any surviving Engineers would gradually become weaker, from Starvation etc.

RIPE Pickings for David..

Another thing to consider if say the Cathedral was some limited Sanctuary would be if these Engineers are like Mankind faced with a Serious Event...  Would they adopt the same Principle.. of WOMEN and CHILDREN First... such as in Disasters like the Titanic?

This would indeed explain a greater number of Females and Infants to experiment on as opposed to Males....   There is thus NO NEED for a oh HE Re-animates Dead Engineers Explanation.

Oh well FOX know where to Find me if they wish to discus Franchise Plans that are Coherent and make sense ;)

Indeed, who knows if they are connections or just coincidence but its fun to find things that could be tied into the Franchise, i did this with my Topic on Ancient Aliens connections where i posted a few Mayan pieces that we could connect to the Franchise lol

I think the Franchise has the potential to be expanded, with the route RS had taken with Prometheus, there really is a lot to the Franchise than just the Derelicts EGGS and Ripley.

However when making any Franchise based expanded movie, and not using the ALIEN: Prefix, gets some fans confused and argue why is this movie/book or what ever connected to Alien if it has NO Alien in the Title.   And then the other side of the coin by having/using the ALIEN: Prefix, it makes Fans Assume it has to be about ALIEN as in Xenomorph

Alien Covenant has disappointed some who feel it was not really a Alien movie, it was a Prometheus 2, it was a Mad Robot movie.  Sorry but it certainly was a ALIEN movie... more so a Alien Origins movie thats now giving the Fans the Answers that they wanted from Prometheus...

But alas... sometimes you need to be careful what you ask for, in case the answers are not what you wished for.

I certainly think RS needs to be given the Chance and more free reign to finish his project off, i cant see him doing another U-Turn with David and showing us that David does not create the Xenomorph.

But with Disney in ownership maybe RS will be Rained in to make Changes to please Fans/Complaints... but maybe once again to the detrimental effect of the BIGGER Picture that Ridley Scott was trying to tell.

Which was that the Pilot of the Derelict was the Bigger Picture here, those Eggs are merely a Bio-Weapon.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumTime and Space - Again!

@chli

I will add that a lot of confusion does seem to come from how the movies are Edited and Cut, which present ourselves with clues which could lead us down the wrong path, and even if they lead us to the right kind of path at the time.... future movies can totally ignore/mess with clues set prior.

But indeed looking at clues as logical as we can, then it points us towards things like the Deacon having a 5 day + Gestation.  The Crossing Viral and indeed parts of Alien Covenant logically leave us to assume supplies and equipment had be salvaged from the Prometheus Wreckage, or the Lifeboat...

somethings still would not add up or leave us to Question them, and a lot of times these are purely OVERSIGHTS when filming the movies.  A Prime Example would be the Photo of Holloway and Dr Shaw that Daniels finds...

Where we can only try and come up with a Logical Explanation... and in this case, there really is very little... apart from the PURE Coincidence of finding it in the Prometheus Wreckage... otherwise HOW would this get to the Life-Boat?    But this is when we look at David in Alien Covenant and could then ponder if David had taken it at some point  prior to the 3rd act in Prometheus, and it ended up in the Lifeboat via David prior to Dr Shaw and the Crew going to awaken the Engineers.... which kind of could allow us to ponder that David took it because he was at this very early stage INFATUATED with Dr Shaw.

So its examples like that, where we can only try and find rational explanations, when we have no hard facts...  which is also why i am drawn to the Hair Length indicating that Dr Shaw had spent 10-12 months from the end of Prometheus until David tucked her away in The Crossing.  However there is never any confirmed time-frame of such events... and it could be another Ridley Scott/FOX Oversight?

Reply
BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumTime and Space - Again!

I would certainly say its a Logical/Plausible Merger Date that sites right down the middle of the events of Prometheus and Alien Covenant.

I have not read the Yutani Report, a main reason being and no disrespect to everyone involved, but i was kind of waiting until the Prequel Saga was complete, then hoping that we get a Updated Report,  the main reason for this is i am just one of those who hold out for something complete, so i tend to pick DVD's up if they are cheap, rather than buy each new movie that i suspect is part of a series... for example...  i have no interest in getting The Last Jedi, but once we have the SW EP7-9 Box-set i would get that.

So i would be waiting until the Prequels are done, because of changes and added information, which it seems FOX can have a habit of changing things as they progress... which could effect any Canon a Yutani Report could have (not to any fault of those who produced it).  I am also someone who is reluctant to accept certain Games/Comics as Canon... the same with Novels apart from a few that are based on the Movie... i can totally respect the other Books as Alternative Fiction to the Franchise but i am not one who really accepts many as Canon... For Example Alien: Out of the Shadows

Also Alien Colonial Marines, but i also think even as Canon as far as the movies the Franchise is a bit of incoherent, inconsistent mess at times, due to not sticking to any laid down LAW or Logic and Constantly Evolving Plot.

Hopefully the so called ALIEN Bible has a Foundation that the Future Franchise movies and games can follow and not contradict each other.

I am not sure where the 2099 Merger came from (Comic, Book, Game) but i think its pretty logical, and it certainly fits well within the movie Franchise.

Regarding when this means the Covenant mission was due to leave, i cant be sure because i have not Read the Origins Novel.

I am not convinced the Mission happened shortly after the Merger, we do know that THEY (Daniels and Branson) had been planning this mission for 10 years, so Origae-6 had been surveyed prior to any Merger.

The only logical dates i can come up with, would be to consider the 7 more Charge Cycles over the remaining 88 Month Journey, which means if the Neutrino Burst Accident? occurred during its first charge then this means indeed a December 2103 to January 2104 date seems a good Estimate.

I will have to look at the individual Messages Home Virals and see if they have any clues that we can Gauge a potential Covenant Departure Date from.
