This is tough one but I think the Prometheus teaser hit slightly harder partly because it was the main man Ridley behind it, but also due to the fact that it was really well edited and kept you guessing.
Other heavy names such as Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba were also attached to it meaning quality acting was to be expected. Speaking of that and regarding Alien Romulus, I have no idea who this young cast is but hopefully they can pull it off in a convincing way. The Romulus teaser looks fantastic no doubt both on a technical and especially aesthetic level. I also love the camera work with classic slow pans and the hallway dolly shots.

I love Alien Isolation ( I've played through it dozen times ...in VR a couple of times )....But I'm the only one of my friends/family that knows anything about it, their disdain for Prometheus and A:Covenant showed me they have little patience for nuance or having to think.
Family "Who's that?! Why is that happening?! When did that happen??"
Me "Uggh.."
I'm hoping for a jump scare thrill ride....But I'll be happy with just about anything.
"a creepy half-dead xenomorph on an operating table"
Cool visual.
You think there'll be too much fan-service/ familiarity in a negative sense? I'd personally prefer if the original Alien and all its ambiguity was left alone in the first place considering the complete overhaul Prometheus did with the backstory, adding grand philosophical questions about life and creation and yada yada yada, but it is what it is and this is what we've got.
Sure Aliens expanded upon the mystery surrounding the derelict on LV-426 with a colony and a queen but it was still within the same tone of the first film that it all came down to: a highly dangerous alien species that W-Y wants to exploit no matter what the cost.
While I think it's too early to jump to conclusions about Romulus, I like the idea of bringing (what most likely is) W-Y back and horror aboard a distant, claustrophobic space station as it sort of moves back within the scope of the old Alien films. I also like the idea of bringing the old chap back in this manner, a creepy half-dead xenomorph on an operating table, as it reminds me of The Thing.
With that being said however, my huge concern (thanks to the half-assed final act in Covenant) and even bigger question here is whether the classic concept still effectively works on the big screen. I want to believe it does with the proper execution (tight script, direction and acting)
Alien Isolation still proves to this day that a xenomorph endlessly popping out of vents throughout a 15-20hr repetitive yet masterful game is a horrifying experience, but on the other hand it has the additional horror- and surprise element of your own interactions.
I want to believe Alien Romulus will scare the s*** out us once again, and I'm open to new twists and turns as long as it's tense and remains persistent overall.
All in all, I'm carefully optimistic.
Would be cool if they bring this weapon and the movie's lore into the ALIEN RPG
Definitely android. The facehuggers seemed to ignore him in the teaser as they crawled past him from the doorway and chased another character.
Cool design. Looks like it was made by the same manufacturer who made the other pulse rifle which is a compliment to the concept artist.
Well ho-ly smokes good find Chris! This explains why things went to s*** on the station. Getting proper horror vibes from that scene: a xenomorph on an operating table and guys in spooky hazmat suits *shivers*
Read another topic that it's confirmed (!) please ignore my previous comment as I couldn't delete it.
Interesting, maybe W-Y sends out a ship to retrieve big (frozen) chap or the frozen chap just happens to float by the Romulus & Remus station (remember, W-Y operates throughout deep space)and its crew decides to bring it inside in true The Thing fashion. What could possibly go wrong?
I think we might see some egg morphing if Big Chap/Kane's Son is the primary xenomorph antagonist
Thanks a lot Chris! I'm honored.
Sweet trailer! The familiar aesthetics from the first teaser (important to be emphasized as the upcoming trailers can show different content) clearly fits the intended timeline of the film.
We've got both dirty industrial hallways and also clean retro-futuristic hallways reminiscent of the interior seen in the Nostromo ship. We've also got a newly designed pulse rifle, wielded by what likely is the new Ripley-esque character. This particular clip is followed by the shot of the main baddie, the xenomorph in all its glory shooting out it's inner jaw towards the camera.
Speaking of baddies, although considerably smaller yet no less dangerous, we've also got facehuggers and they sure don't seem to be lacking in numbers! The latter begs the question: who's laying the eggs, or, does the story follow the eggmorping path, OR, is the black goo and David's egg creation behind it? If I'm not mistaken, Fede Alvarez apparently took inspiration from most if not all films (hopefully AvP is excluded..)
We shall see further down the road when more is revealed. To be continued!
I figured as much. I hope this movie integrates things from the ALIEN RPG, like the United America, Three World Empire, and the Union of People's Progression as background fluff.
Thats five months from now
I don't think he meant literary the Hadley's Hope colony but more so the concept of people growing up in a Weyland-Yutani colony like Hadley's Hope, cause obviously Romulus predates Aliens.
Great to have you back Neomorph! Welcome back to the site!
WOOOO back again, thanks Chris! Hello fellow veterans! Time to dust off and start the hype train again :D August 16th people, can't wait!!
That's so funny Jonesy, that's exactly what I thought of as well hahaha I wonder if that was intentional!
Nice work! Another great piece of artwork! It is going to be fun to look at Alien/Aliens through a new lense, I'm a fan of "interquels" if done right and it feels like Fede is doing it right.
so great to know the film is connected with Hadley's Hope colony. I am now even imagining if any of the young characters could have some connection with Newt's family cause the ROMULUS timeline would sense that these characters will grow and reach the age of parenthood in ALIENS era (assume some of them survived :p)
we will now viewing the ALIEN ending and ALIENS opening with a brand new mind
the pod Big Chap lying kinda reminds me of this from Prometheus.

welcome back, Big Chap
i am also nerding out. fav franchise, hands down.
Even the "weaker" films i like watching. i love them all.
This is extremely nostalgic. Seeing him, barely alive.
Jesus i can't wait to see him on the big screen again.
Ah, thats why they are youngsters
Blending Alien with Prometheus sounds awesome! This confirms it, the ALIEN tv series isn't connected to the main ALIENverse
According to my sources, Big Chap is still somewhat alive when it gets recovered... apparently it's kind of sad to see, like a deformed and wounded animal. But yeah, Big Chap got harpooned AND fried by the pod's jet propulsion system, frying the Xenomorph for a moment before the vacuum of space would have frozen the wounds. Stuck in a perpetual state of pain and suffering until the Network picked him up...
But yeah, the nostalgia is mounting higher and higher for me as more gets revealed. Of all the sci-fi franchises I nerd out over, Alien has always been my top obsession. I'm legitimately thrilled about this movie and everything it's going to show us.
It looks like the big chap is in some kind of hemispherical object, in a fetal position. Rewatching the ending of Alien, he got blasted out in one piece, with only a harpoon through his chest, which I guess got melted away from the acid blood.
I'm getting nostalgia vibes.
Poor Big Chap...

this is so hard to choose, both are magnificent. But I remember I was totally hooked after watching the Prometheus trailer back in 2012. It was just AWESOME feeling, especially after all the AVP mess that Prometheus trailer is totally a breath of fresh air. The number of times I rewatched it was definitely more than ROMULUS. So yeah I vote for Prometheus.
Maybe he stole it?
@Jonesy, good eye! Noticing the classic Weyland-Yutani logo, love it! Curious why he's wearing that, I'm thinking he finds the suit in the station and wears it, I don't see him having WY swag on the planet they come from.
Wow its been 2 years since i updated this fanfic. I plan on making more revisions in the future.
"If my dad or girlfriend can't tell me the basics of what is happening ( in the series )...then the franchise has issues."
I am sorry, I wasn't trying to come off as condescending. I was just saying the wiki is helpfully as an all in one source, from expanded universe material to supplement material to what we know directly from the films.
Its a quirk of mine, once I'm invested in fictional universe, I want to know everything about it.
Well regardless the ore in the Ore Refinery the Nostromo is tugging is ore collected from Thedus. Its in the ALIEN supplement material on the ALIEN QUADRILOGY and probably on the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY box sets.
Well I'm going to split hairs here but the system is called Zeta Reticuli, its a binary system with two stars (Zeta Reticuli I and Zeta Reticuli II). Calpamos orbits Zeta Reticuli II.
By the looks of the screenshot, those are definitely planetary rings.
I think the use of the Bison-class Star Freighters (the same class as the Nostromo) is the more likely explanation.
However if its not in the Zeta Reticuli system, it would be interesting if Lv-426 is not the only source of the xenomorph. Since Fede Alvarez has been reading up on the old Dark Horse ALIEN Comics, we might see xenomorphs crop up on several alien worlds. If he is ever given the greenlight to do ALIEN sequels.
I would love to see an ALIENS EARTH WAR trilogy made into a movie series or hell I would rather it be the plot of the ALIEN tv series than what Noah Hawley is cooking up with his transhuman cyborg-centric plots
I don't care about the alien universe. I only care about the alien movies and what a causal fan would glean from watching ( not having to consult wiki or a novel ).
If my dad or girlfriend can't tell me the basics of what is happening ( in the series )...then the franchise has issues.
I think they mean Young Adults (18-25ish), not teenagers.
Well there are plenty of reasons why people would want to colonize another planet. Exploration, Discovery, and Wealth.
Yeah, I don't recall Parker ever saying that, like ever in ALIEN.
Also the Ore Refinery was built in Neptune's orbit then transported to Thedus by the Nostromo were they picked up regular Ore from Thedus to you know refine before taking it back to Earth... but then events of ALIEN happened.
Lv-426 is an untapped moon with frequent volcanic activity, it would be a treasure trove for rare earth metals and other elements. If not enriched with Iron Ore.
Also please visit the AVP wiki or the Alien Anthology wiki. A quick wiki search can tell you what you need to know about background material in the alien universe rather than coming up with a Wild Mass Guessing.
Yeah, plot is: a group of young space colonizers ? So I'm assuming they have a synth helper like the Covenant. Where are the adults?
Why do they need to scavenge anything? What planet are they attempting ( or heading towards ) to colonize?
