So to set the record straight, WY is actually a car company secretly obtaining bio-weapons for the military. Check.

Let's just wait and see what tech they give us...We've barely got anything to go on just yet and remember, the infirmary in 'Alien' looks pretty damn advanced for 1979 and the rest of the ship is a run down, beat up, ore refinery that's made God knows how many trips into deep space. I like to think that any refinery, regardless of any technological advancements of its time, is going to look run down, rusty, nasty and beat up after prolonged use...so, we'll just have to wait and see...now won't we.
Nothing stays clean forever

I agree with that last, and I would not be surprised at all if the suggestion Snorky made comes true at some point. All I am saying is at the time he created the name all he was thinking of was a "cool sounding name" and not some merger!
ReplycraigamorePrometheus ForumTechnological AnachronismsJan 21, 2012
I agree about the name @Spartacus, but who knows...it's a very small thing in a very big universe.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumTechnological AnachronismsJan 21, 2012
AGREED, at this point just merge the two companies already so I can stop bringing up Cobb!

I didn't want to bring up AvP, but I am. I confess, I enjoyed it!
It was so bad, it was good. I was all set to not ever be in the mood to see it, but I found myself with a group of friends who were going to watch it anyway, and so I did as well. We laughed and enjoyed all the serious, non-funny stuff! And in that context, AvP was a good popcorn flick worth seeing.
No love for serious non-qualified scientific debate for Prometheus? Sure, I understand. Except I think it wouldn't be wrong to say we're all here because we like science fiction and we all have something to share, qualified opinion or no.
That said, I'm totally geeking out over this new movie too. I'm a little embarrassed to admit! ;)

hi snorkel, it's good to finally speak to the legend in the flesh, so to speak, I have spent many an evening laughing at your outrageous posts. so thanks for keeping me entertained. I have tried to sign up a few times before but for some reason wasn't able to. It's great to finally be on here with my alien fan boy kin, long live the 'Perfect Organism'.
Tetra, I remember being at the cinema watching AVP and there was a family behind me who actually clapped when it was over. I couldn't believe it either, lol. As bad as it was, at least it some sort of coherent plot, unlike its sequel, which was just completely awful, lol, I mean besides the epic bad-ass Predator. I think they should have combined the two films into a three hour, 18 cert, epic, that would have been awesome. In the first they seemed to get the Alien scenes right but killed the Predator ones, and in the second they got the Predator right and ruined the Xeno, not my favourite term for our beloved beasty, either. nonetheless, I never felt that Cameron cheapened the feaar factor of the Alien by making it more of an insect-like life-form. I mean, the Queen? Fantastic.

Why do we get so carried away?.........I would have to say that culturally and sociologically speaking, storytelling....the function of the telling and the consuming of story....is one of the most important aspects of human existence. It sustains us....going all the way back to the oral traditions of our most primative cultures. I don't think I'm over stating that when I say, the function of storytelling or communication in general is one of the most relevent and distinctive qualities of our species.
We've thrive upon it. It thrusts us forward in our ability to learn, apply that knowledge to our benefit and pass that knowledge on. When it truly fascinates is in the context of fiction....the power of a story, that never happened, to hold one's interest, consume his or her time and energy; its power to give us joy and pleasure....to entice and embolden our passions.
Why do we get so carried away?........that's simple....it's who we are. It's a quality inherent to the identity of our species.....Our people, all people love a good story!

Here's an analogy that might be helpful. Perhaps being strapped into a chicken-wire and paper mache' scale alien queen costume (suddenly realizing all those dozens of little metallic wire pricks I'm suffering through could have been corrected with just one more twist of the pliers), has given me a different perspective. 6 hours later, (after the costume contest), I emerged from the 13 pieces of articulated armor and had a much greater sense of respect for anything "Alien". That was the late 80's. Now I teach kids how to make movies for a living. Sometimes I make costumes for fun or for them. Some costumes, like the queen, took months and were my pride and joy, some others... Not so much. Even AVP and AVPR have their place in this universe, even if only to introduce a younger and perhaps less philosophical (more action-oriented) generation into the alien fold. The universe is a big place. We can all fit.

I am getting so bored with all this theories on where the space jockeys came from and why they exist and who they after and into and why they fucking whatever!!......it' has been discussed to the point of exhaustion....don't get me wrong...some of these theories are quite interesting and original...but 2 much....the novelty has warned off.
I yearn for someone to just post a really interesting thread...well their are some semi interesting ones....but when I see the words "space Jockey" or "engineer"...i steer clear! Unless i suffer from insomnia and i need to fall asleep instantly!

You mean like which Vickers is sexier? Corp-suit Vickers, Astro-Vickers or my personal favourite, Vickers in Knickers! LOL!
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumToo much science and philosophy discussed over a movie?Jan 21, 2012
....thats a start...lol...speaking of vickers...u know yesterday I posted a thread on Charlize Theron and her involvement in Snow White and not even one reply...no one is interested....all they care about is space jockeys and fucking engineers..I am curious but....when it comes to them (space jockeys or/and engineers)...i'll wait for the movie....cause the speculations are just getting tiresome!

@Perfectorganism - Good thinking there! I know what you mean, some people on here have a chip on their shoulders regarding new people or theories. . . Infidels! Well I'll just say honestly. . . My opinion is more that the xenomorphs were an accidental creation by the Space Jockey's, which was a result of the human intervention we'll see in Prometheus. So in a sense, humanity would be the creator of it's own doom type scenario. Also we'll see that the SJ's are such an advanced society, they don't have any care for good/evil in the known universe, they probably go around doing what they wish to planets and species so they find the xeno's just a stupid creature but will ultimately suffer and it'll all be because of us. . .
ReplyPerfectOrganismPrometheus ForumSpace Jockey's hunted to extinction by their own creations?Jan 21, 2012
the stupidity of mankind knows no bounds
I bet you any money Weyland corp is a banking conglomerate, lol
ReplyXenophobePrometheus ForumSpace Jockey's hunted to extinction by their own creations?Jan 21, 2012
Either that or some kinda company similar to Umbrella Corp. in the Resident Evil franchise. They cover a whole variety of different areas - Technology advancement, everyday business stuff, top secret military research etc.

lol@spartacus. I bet they have upped the VAT on all those products buddy. hahaha.
Lyle, In gigers mind, the derelict was a mean piece of work. In one of his paintings it shows the actual ground beneath the ship trying to squirm away from it. Even the planet surface is revolted by the SJ's. so yes, I am of the opinion that the Jockeys are indeed, the epitome of perverse evil. I'm thinking, cenobites in space, but worse, lol. Although, as was stated before, they probably are so far advanced that they don't even see things as we do, ie, good and bad, etc. they are just that way by design. I'm still convinced that the original intent of the derelict and the Jockey is that they were all one living organism, and for some reason, I cant shake the feeling that they are the 'rapers' of planets, even though Ridley has decided to change this, the Jockeys being symbiants(?)inside suits, probably to fit in a more 'human' angle more suited to the audience of today.
hope that all made sense there lol, i need my caffeine and nicotine intake lol

A finger in every pie, so to speak. And in that case, I guess we are all expendable, lol. not just the Nostromo crew.
not even the Xeno is as lethal or bad-ass as a multinational corporation, lol. Just picture Asda in space.
ReplyXenophobePrometheus ForumSpace Jockey's hunted to extinction by their own creations?Jan 21, 2012
Ha well in AR, Weyland-Yutani got bought out by Wal-Mart who own. . . Asda! It's a conspiracy! Anyway back on the right tangent lol. Do you think that the SJ are really the evil ones in this Alien franchise??

I really hope that humans are not responsible for the creation of the xenomorph either intentionallly are accidentally. We are not the centre of the universe were everything we do in space has massive consequences for everyone else.
ReplyPerfectOrganismPrometheus ForumSpace Jockey's hunted to extinction by their own creations?Jan 21, 2012
I have always held the belief that the Jockeys used the DNA of all the deadliest species they had encountered or created and combined them to make the Alien. I think they may well have taken a strand of our violent warmongering genes just to up the ante and improve their design. We are after all, the most destructive force in the galaxy.
'You know, Burke, I don't know which species is worse. You don't see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage.'

Why not included the thing too. Maybe all the creatures have the same coords to the planet. Thus a orgy feast for the SJ.

So... We are the worms on the hook, we are the ants under the looking glass on a sunny day. The SJs are us. No more thought or guilt considered for their actions toward us than ours are towards a chicken nugget.

Sounds the perfect story for what AVP should have been; take out the humans, just Predators, Aliens and Space Jockey's. More blood and guts and you have the perfect film....

whilst the action side of aliens fit in the Predator universe ...
.. I don't think Predator fits in the Alien - Prometheus universe ..at all.
Very different style of sci-fi.
AvP is a great idea for a game, maybe comics, leave it at that :)
ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumSpace Jockey's hunted to extinction by their own creations?Jan 21, 2012
Personally, I think comics are not canon unless the original source material was a comic.

Ok maybe it's not an Ant, more like some baby coackroach, but never the less, I still get wound up every time I watch that opening sequence. I would dearly love to see the Xenomorph's original and tiniest state of existence.

Didn't an engineers ship crash in Roswell in '49? lol
All this speculation as me salivating like a xeno in heat.
Are we certain that the engineers are a different race from the jockeys? Sorry if we are, I haven't had chance to read through everything thoroughly yet.
The new trailer is due soon, I'm still engrossed in the old one. i think I have watched it more times than I have watched the original movies combined, lol
