Mindbender, there is no POST solely devoted to this suggestion - that's all i was doing, for anyone who HASN'T seen it with the commentary, behind the scenes, etc.

WOW some of the "experienced" forum posters on here seriously have a superior complex going on. . . It's pretty impossible for a new forum member to search EVERY post ever put up on here!
ReplyTyrannosaurusPrometheus ForumAlien, with commentary on by Ridley Scott....Jan 19, 2012
honestly, ive been greeted with nothing but insults - fun!
ReplyChrisPrometheus ForumAlien, with commentary on by Ridley Scott....Jan 19, 2012
It's not Tyrannosaurus' fault guys. It's mine - I have yet to install a search feature. So don't get on his case over starting a legitimate thread. Once the search feature is implemented (this week if all goes well) then we can expect users to search before posting. But until then, be kind and accommodating please.
We're a community folks, here to just enjoy and speculate on the Prometheus film. Get annoyed with me for not installing the search feature yet instead of our new and WELCOME members.

I have the blu ray box set of the Alien trilogy. The Alien blu ray is simply amazing. The best looking movie out of the set. And yes there is a plethera of information on those discs!
ReplyRickPrometheus ForumAlien, with commentary on by Ridley Scott....Jan 19, 2012
I have the Alien BD. I don't like the cut signal footage. It doesn't even sound scary but it does have the whipping sound associated with the facehugger at the end. I do wonder if that was edited in instead for a pre-empt for the "unoffical" Alien Prequel and him wanting to touch on the facehugger.

I have the Quadrilogy's DVD's and do this all the time.
I am very much looking forward to obtaining an EGG copy if I can of the Blue Rays. There seems to be a lot of NEW material, tons in fact. Thanks for reminding me I have to spend more money, ah well, You know what I say..."Hard Come...Easy Go" !!!

Thanks Tyrannosaurus for starting the feed. I have listened to his commentary a number of times and it's fascinating to hear the way he thinks, the sideways approach his mind seems to come at the material he works with. And by sideways, I mean unique, particular and intelligentally unconventional ( as opposed to shockingly or bluntly unconventional).

Interesting. . . Check out the discussion I just posted! :)

I actually think the Space Jockeys are the lackeys for something else entirely. Something we haven't seen yet. Why let out pictures of your main protagonists 6 months before release? Scott knoew people would see that guy in the chair room, knew we'd see the head on the examination table, knew we'd see the suits behind Noomi.....
Misdirection and red herrings I think. There'll be something bigger and nastier than the Xenos and SJ's combined.
ReplySoX2000Prometheus Forumi have a theoryJan 19, 2012
Cypher, agreed. I think 'Engineers' and 'Space Jockeys' are synonyms. I also don't think you'd nickname a species 'Engineers' if they didn't work for someone/thing. Maybe you could...meh... But I agree with Cypher that they're lackeys.. Badass lackey's though. And if they're the lackeys and they're badass how baddass are their bosses going to be? :)
ReplyJazzyjayPrometheus Forumi have a theoryJan 19, 2012
What if the jockeys are like scientists. And they are transporting a kind of weapon or biological findings only to be exposed or stolen and used against them. I'm thinking the blue being either to steal this (as promithius stole to give to man) and human kind gets caught in the middle to end up creating the xeno's?
ReplycraigamorePrometheus Forumi have a theoryJan 19, 2012
I like the way you put that Cypher. It's a rather interesting way of looking at what we've seen so far.
ReplyMentosPrometheus ForumWhat is the official rating?Jan 19, 2012
It hasn't been confirmed yet unfortunately. We've heard from various sources that the film is being shot, and the rating decided afterwards. It will probably end up as a PG-13 in the cinema, just because it'll be easier for FOX to obtain a decent ROI.
ReplyxenomanPrometheus ForumWhat is the official rating?Jan 19, 2012
Time to start saving for that 60" high def tv and sound system (you may already have it). That way you can have it in time for the blu ray version!
ReplyjujutsukaPrometheus ForumWhat is the official rating?Jan 19, 2012
lol I have to get a blu-ray player first.
Sad, I inherited a 42" Samsung HDTV and can't watch anything proper on it.
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumWhat is the official rating?Jan 19, 2012
U know what is really pathetic...perhaps I should not even say this....but I have never watched a blue ray.....I cannot even imagine the combination of blue ray and hdtv.....that's really sad!
Sure it must be really amazing!
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumWhat is the official rating?Jan 19, 2012
its all day im laughing because "the expandables 2 " will be PG13 ..
Stallone+Willis+Van Damme+Norris+Schwarzenegger+Lundgren KABARABOM = PG13 ....LOOOOL

I watched HD through my xbox 360.
talking about blue-ray, the prices for
tge players and blu-ray discs have
dropped much. Actually affordable.
Back to the topic, i dont care about
the official us-rating. Even if it
Gets a pg13, it does not mean
its not scary. R rating is often givem
for accessice splatter scenes and
immense violence.

And what is your point of view? What are your theories? Come and tell...
ReplyGhost SolitarePrometheus ForumFeel the SubstanceJan 19, 2012
This is not a theory, this is merely an inkling. If Shaw is indeed the last survivor of the Prometheus expedition, then everything that the crew of the Nostromo found follows what she did after the close of the film. This is supposing that she survives. I'd always felt that the blue luminous mist and the light field covering the eggs was to keep the face huggers inside. Once Kane broke the field, and was removed with a paracite the infestation began. I know there have been many, many theories on how all those eggs were carefully positioned in rows. What if Shaw, or whatever she was destined to become placed them all down there? We are only given so much to work with and RS categorically denied that there are any xenomorphs in the film. Though this is indeed assuming that she was able to handle the embryonic lifeforms prior to their maturation into facehuggers. Just a thought because indeed someone in this forum is going to hit the nail on the head and hammer out the film's events.

ReplyRickPrometheus ForumFeel the SubstanceJan 19, 2012
Sage,
I think the SJ's are mere rooks on the game board. I think there is something that could be manipulating them.
Scott swears there is something unexpected, scarier and much more deadly than the xeno. This I so have to see. You know since the whole time travel thing is being kicked around why not throw out the 4th dimension? Its not bound by time nor space aand has been proven to exist but we can't see it, taste it, touch it, smell it, or feel it.
Regards,
Rick

im still going with that the xenos are like rotweilers, the jockeys are handlers. its the old riddle of steel. what is steel compared to he hand that wields it.

I plan on handing out some custom "scratch and sniff cards" the night of the premiere in Montreal Rick !!!

"The alternative is, for economic reasons, Scott filmed two shots in Iceland: one, of the primeval Earth, and another, of the alien planet."
I think what you said there is correct. I bet it was mainly used for the shot of them running from the crashing ship, that would require a rather large real outdoor set of "rock lava base".
ReplyjujutsukaPrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 19, 2012
I presume, like what Biomechanic said, that they were merely filming in those locations with those actors because it was the most efficient use of time and resources.
And also because I abhor the idea of time travel being used in this film.
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 19, 2012
I was curious when I saw a comic con vid of ridley explaining that he was in Iceland to film the beginning of Prometheus....think he called that part...."the beginning of time".....but if it is truly the beginning of time....then why does he have a cast members on the shoot....For instance....Noomi joined him while he was in iceland....she was their with him in Iceland?.....but this scene is suppose to happen before the dawn of mankind....must say I am a bit confused?
ReplyjujutsukaPrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 19, 2012
Maybe there's some biological interface on the ship that a crewmember winds up interacting with, and this interface imparts SJ history.
Think of Leeloo from the Fifth Element watching that photo stream where she learns about human history.
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 19, 2012
eah but she does not have to be in iceland to learn or interact....she's not even born yet...so i think their will be time travel......I am not fond of that idea.....time travel has the ability to truly fuck up a plot!
ReplySoX2000Prometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 19, 2012
Juxtapose, she does if you want to film her with those surroundings. I think what Jones is saying is, in the film she's on/in a ship/cave/room and she activates something that shows her some history from way back in time that is shot in Iceland. If you want Shaw to appear to be looking at this projection then you'd have to physically shoot her in those surroundings. Or green screen, but I think Ridley is better than that, he wouldn't green screen if the budget would allow him not to.
But I agree with BioMechanic, she was probably there to film the running from the crashing ship.
ReplyreffugeePrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 19, 2012
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the first shot from the trailer, where the spaceship is approaching what at first glance looks like a planet, but looks more like some sort of worm hole to me. ?
ReplySoX2000Prometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 19, 2012
@reffugee I'm convinced that's a planet. Maybe I'm wrong but I'll put my bet on it's a planet/moon.
ReplyreffugeePrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 19, 2012
whatever it is, it looks kinda flat like a disc and not a sphere, and clouds look like they are all coming out of the center of it.
Replycentaurian_slugPrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 19, 2012
i also hope there is no time travel. if they appear on set, perhaps its another earth-like world with familiar features.
I'd be okay with time dilation effects though !
have we ever seen that implied in a scifi?
ReplydeadcellPrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 19, 2012
please, no time travel. a good flashback would be nice, but the timetravel thing is a bit overused. extradimensional is kind of new, just as long as its done right
ReplyjujutsukaPrometheus ForumXeno hands - Giger MuralJan 19, 2012
Interesting pic, thanks for sharing.
Suppose the ship is "grown", and part of that growth process results in the ship's frame, such as the entrance seen in the photo, being secreted. That entrance looks like xenomorph secretions from subsequent films. What if biological material from the ship itself is included in xenomorph DNA?
