Good ideas BM, I'm with the idea of 'The Company' knowing about the potetial of the liquid but I can't see them having any great quantities of it. My thoughts are that Shaw's Father finds something which the company get hold of and there is a small amount of the liquid; not enough to do much with, but enough to understand how powerful and remarkable it is. Thus the need for the Prometheus mission, which was probably proceeded by the mission involving Shaw's Dad (now we know, thanks Frantz :)). Thinking he was coming back or not being of right mind he leaves his daughter behind parentless. Mum either goes with or died when Shaw was born; out of the movie as no need for her character.

Slightly off the point I know but isn't the round part of the derelict possibly detachable and it's that we see hovering over water falls in trailer.

I don't know if this has been discussed but -considering Giger's sexual undertones to his art- , the top view of the derelict always reminded me of the female reproductive system. The main body being the uterus. The appendages being the fallopian tubes terminating into what look like ovaries. That would also fall in line with the ship housing the potential for life in the Alien Eggs.

You guys have got it all wrong. Quite clearly those are not suits. Rather 2 actual SJ's standing in the corridor waiting patiently for the lavatory to become available! Really, there's no need to over analyse this image :D

These are not suits. This the body. In alien, when they stumble across the sj. Dallas reveals the chest being busted open as if an a xeno bursted through. Also he claimed the body of the sj had decomposed. If this is a suit, then this is going to be an epic fail.

The doorway in that picture is identical to the doorway leading into the jockey's chamber/star map room. It's most likely on the ship even if the "statues" don't make sense yet.

The picture looks authentic for a few reasons. If you super-lighten the pic, the graininess is consistent throughout the image. Look at the background and the dark parts of Noomi's suit and it blends nicely. If the question is: why does she stand out more starkly, it's just (IMHO) that she's lit from the front very well and reflects much more light than the black background which absorbs light. The thing that still bugs me is the SJ suit size disparity. Are these creatures as large as the original SJ fossil seen in Alien (which was a [size=200]giant[/size] compared to Dallas, Kane and Lambert)? The reason Noomi looks "pasted-on" could be due to 3D photography. They actually have to light up the set with more flood lights than they normally would because they have to brighten the movies to compensate for 3D glasses. I read somewhere they have to digitally darken the shadows in post to maintain good contrast. This is definitely not a typical Ridley's style of "available light" photography.

Noise can be easily added to the layer as I did in my quickly doctored one that shows the expected scale. I think the possibilities are 1. Shaw is standing on something tall very close in the foreground but that seems unlikely because she should still be small compared to the archway. The Spacejockeys are closer to human sized but that doesn't quite make sense because the large hall is probably the same size as the caves we see in the trailer and the humans are pretty small in comparison to those. 3. The filmmakers were doing some camera tricks with miniature sets and they allowed her to stand in front of one for the publicity shot. 4. The two shots were combined together to make for a more interesting picture.

Can you really tell if it fake? I know Scott said that they would have to go back and alter the captured video and darken it due to the filming in 3D.

@Walterhiller, How can you say those figures are obviously anything. The material that they are made of matches the material of the arches and supports of the hallway. Why wouldn't you create statues of yourself if you had a sense of vanity. If you could institute a genesis event, I'm sure your head would be big too. The perspective in the photo isn't sufficient for me to gauge the size differential between Rapace and the figures. How far down the corridor are they? Why isn't she examining them, she doesn't even appear interested in them. I would think an intact environmental suit of alien manufacture would provide a plethora of scientific research possibilities. They are both in the exact same posture, they may as well be digital composites of one another. It was merely me wondering based upon what I see. Her disinterest only makes me more curious.

@ Walterhiller Ok I saw it closeup now...and u may be right...their is perhaps no photoshop involved...my bad!....the smaller forum shot looks very suspect tho..!..but I suppose it is due to the resolution...

Sorry Walterhiller but there is obvious photoshopping in the areas around her. It is most plain to see just above her head and around her left shoulder. The dark areas. But since you decided to just call a poster an idiot I'm sure you won't even care about this reply. Anybody who uses the program can tell you exactly what all of the "noise" around her means. Masking. I still believe both images are real. They may even still be part of the same photo. This just means they found it necessary to do some adjustments on it. Maybe making a mask of her and layering brightness just so she pops out of the photo more. It doesn't mean that some secret agenda was underway.

@Lyle on your first point. I do think someone does get greedy or have a hidden agenda becuase of the start of the trailer when the person (woman) sounds as if she has been caught and is confessing to someone. Just to jog your memory she says stuff like "im sorry it was so wrong". i think the one saying this is the one you see scream "please!" i think that she has thought of personal wealth when she found the DNA or whatever, thus greed being the downfall. What do you think?

In Alien the suits puffed CO2, I reckon this is along those lines to give the suits an active, working feature. The piping is likley a circulatory feature like heating or cooling, the pipes radiating off excess body heat?

Last suit is much more armored. Perhaps, 1st two pics are an emergency suit?
