I have got a long way in life by being honest. That GIF could be a thousand different things. One might be related to a xeno. Are we wishing this to be a xeno?

You guys are right on with that I agree, even the last part, could be it never looks ANYTHING AT ALL like a Xenomorph or is something else all together and I agree until we see it it is all speculation BUT I am going with probabilities here and in the teaser trailer there is that line Ridley says that I cannot get out of my head... "Little Things Doing Great Big Things"! or something like that anyways, I posted it somewhere for ya!!!

I think the idea of the slow transformation of the classic Alien throughout the movie and in front of ours faces would make for brilliant viewing.

"Little Things Doing Great Big Things" Such as what i posted about a creature evolving during the course of the movie from a basic life form into the tall guy at the end. But that said, it is such a cryptic statement it could mean anything, which is why Ridley said it.

wow read this one again you guys that I posted yesterday I think it puts to rest what Ridley has in mind regarding my idea about this all being about Terraforming and making a bio-mechanical weapon but I W E L C O M E-W I T H-O P E N-A R M S any thoughts and twists and other slants on itor things you want to throw at me regarding it... Ridley Scott: "I think the Space Jockey is actually the pilot, and he’s part of this military operation – if that’s the word you can apply to his world, and therefore this is probably some kind of carrier, a weapon carrier, a biological or biomechanoid carrier of lethal eggs, inside of which are these small creatures which will actually fundamentally integrate in a very aggressive way into any society or any place they’re dropped." –Commentary from Alien DVD of Quadrilogy Set (2003)

and also, didn't Biomechanic already suggest it was spring loaded thingy for his contraption he designed that represents what that was ??????????????? You must remember that SNORKY...right...?... Could it be possible come to think of that now that this isn't a living thing per se but rather a mechanism as he suggested?

It even supports the theory i posted Here. Regards BM's diagram of the thing in the urn possibly having a spring loaded tail doesn't make sense to me, as their doesn't seem to be enough room within the ampules for such a coiled tail.

Perhaps what is seen in this GIP is as Scott has stated "the alien will be reenvisioned as a progenitor of the received form of the Xenomorph". I'm wandering if anyone could get a longer clip of the creature jumping from the original leaked trailer???

Its really hard to see. During the entire gif it over lays the big head as you can see the nose and that is followed by the ship crashing at the very end. To me it looks more like a partially submerged baby xeno. Being that they are born white, have a smooth domed head, and only turn black as they age. This theory works for me.

The only thing that sticks out weird to me is the dolphin style blowhole at the top (or actually facing you) when you watch the GIF. It could also be the CGI Base of the Derelict crashing. Since there is a bit of overlay at the end ofthe GIF

There's a shot of people in the vehicle "hanger" using flamethrowers. They could be simply testing them, but I wonder if they might be using fire to rid themselves of some kind of small, but troublesome, parasitic vermin indigenous to the planet/moon where they landed.....something which they don't want infesting the ship....something that might come into accidental contact with green morphing-goo when the humans inadvertently provide access for them upon entering the "temple"......maybe the squirmy object that's visible in that clip.....something that seems small and insignificant, but ends up being neither. :p

That image is a dolphin or porpoise type animal diving in time lapse video. You an see the blow hole, followed by a small dorsal fin at the end. LOL Could it be from dolphin tale?

Space Jockey was a term coined by the production team on Alien, I'm pretty sure they will be reffered to as "Engineers" in the movie.

So from now on will we call them "Engineers"? but I find it odd that there is also a space jockey skull that is not human? Humanoid Yes, but not like the bald big guy who raises the telescopic seat in the trailer. Anyway "engineers" as a name is not what I was talking about, that's more of a descriptive name, proper name. I was meaning something as a race name or species name, title or something scientific? Or even taken on a historical context to our real history in the myth of the mythology? I think the skull is actually more like a helmet. Ridley Scott has stated that he thought the Space Jockey is some kind of bio-mechanical suit. This article states that the Jockey in the derelict is connected to some kind of breating tube attatched to its nose, I think it is good evidence towards the theory that it is wearing some kind of bio-mechanical suit when operating the chair. http://ioannis.virtualcomposer2000.com/writing/Derelict.html The whole thing is a very interesting read but the bit i'm talking about is number 7 on the list.

That was a very good read, thank you for that. I have always loved that organic bone-like structure of Gigers stuff. The walls themselves appear to be the product of something living if it is not alive it's self. Something that stands against the elements of time. It's one chariot that you really got to strap yourself on to, if you know what I mean! Oh I like that part:"Why are the eggs in there in the first place"? I sure hope Damon Lindelof is the ultimate snork?! {Smoke break}

It's not a space Jockey Helmet, Archeologists would be standing around the medical table if it were, No Dr.'s standing around a medical examination table examine Heads, that's clearly a Head and not a helmet. Just FYI

My opinion too, its a skull. Its way too small to be a helmet. The bigger question is - if it is a skull belonging to a Space Jockey, then the guy stood next to the big chair can't be a Space Jockey, so what is he. Regards the skull - I think that the crew come across the remains of a Space Jockey in the ampule room having been dead for a long, long time. its body having decomposed a long time ago the skull has rolled away from the rest of the body contained within the suit on the ground. Seeing the skull as that of an unknown entity (to them) they bag and tag it for examination later on. IMO the dead Space Jockey foreshadows the terrors they are about to face.

"It's not a space Jockey Helmet, Archeologists would be standing around the medical table if it were, No Dr.'s standing around a medical examination table examine Heads, that's clearly a Head and not a helmet." If its a bio-mechanical helmet....could be. Personally I think it is a head, but can't be sure. But you have to wonder why the head would be decapitated in the first place. "My opinion too, its a skull. Its way too small to be a helmet. Yeah I think the suit is not suited to the Big guy, wrong dimensions. Personally I think the space jockey in Alien was a suit, but the space jockey head in Prometheus is a real head.

....looks like it was cut from the carcass....cause it stands very level.....which might mean that it is in fact a biomechanical helmet, i mean surely those are worth examining as well! Imagine that...."oh look guys i found what looks like a biomechanical helmet, talk about random trash...geeze I wish i could find something else more worthy of examination. ...OMG is that a candy bar wrapper!!!....looks like we in luck after all !!!"....lol Actually come to think of it....a candy bar wrapper would be weird find in those surroundings...;)

Ridley Scott has said the Space Jockey is a biochemical suit, dating back to early 2010. However, if it is biomechanical, the science crew will likely view as a life form and worthy of study. And in the EW pic of Elizabeth Shaw and Kate Dickie's character examining the Jockey, it looked like the suit had been discarded...the head, or helmet, separate from the rest. The "Engineer", it seems, is the new name for the Space Jockey, stemming from Riddles' concept that the film revolve around "Gods and Engineers of Space". Personally, I'm glad the race has gotten an official name for the story concerning them..."Space Jockey" always seemed a bit silly to me! :P

How about this Crazy Idea??? 1.(SPACE JOCKEYS or.Sjs) and the ( ENGINEERS) are two different species. 2.Engineers, being the humanoid in the trailer who eventually created humanity in "Their/His" Image in short "God" 3.Space Jockeys (SJs) are the mechanoids. The corpse we see in "Alien" and in "Prometheus" XRay scene and in photo shots in several magazines laying dead in the temple of the Engineer. 4.First of all why would they find the decapitated head of a "SJ "in the Temple of the "Engineer?" 5. The skull on the Xray has eyeballs and a mouth. A helmet does not need a mouth nor eyes. 6. In my opinion what we have here is the humans stumbing on an akward time when the Sjs and Engineers were on a final battle for the "Elixir" of life , in other words, the Bio-Vials, . Which eventually we stole! 7 Imagine for hypothecial discussion, . The Space jockey we see in "Alien" actually killed the Humanoid Engineer, "Our creators" and stole the "Crossant Space ship" not knowing that on board was already a creature!!, US being mutated!. Then Impregnated him in flight, and busrts out of his ribs, crashing on LV and started reproducing eggs. "TADAHH!" the xenomorph! is born.! theBio mech/ human hybrid we all love!

Hey RP, I agree with you. MD's would be around the table checking out a Bio Helmet. They'd be intrigued to find out how the helmet would neurologicaly interface with the wearer so they could see, hear, smell and maybe feel what the helmet shows around the wearer. Oh hell I know I would be. Regards, Rick

I honestly do believe it is a helmet. Just beacause its on that medical table surrounded by med staff, dosn't mean it is just a skull. They could assume it is a skull but then find out that its actually bio-mechanical. IMO, I don't really care if it is a skull or a helmet, I just know Prometheus is going to be one of the best if not, the best film of 2012.

Hey everyone! The space jockey and the Engineer are opposite beings. they are both at war for the holy grail which is the "vials" of life! The "Engineers" designed us. That is why we look like them. The Space jockeys want the technology. We, the humans stole the "fire" and , got caught up in their mess! There is no helmet. That is the SJ head decapitated. A helmet does not have a "Mouth" ! Look closely at Alien and the Prometheus Pics!. The SJs chopped of head was discovered in the "engineers" temple! why?? Because he dose not belong there! he is another species (Sj). Thats why this bio-mechanichal war is waged, and the crew of the Prometheus gets involved in this mess!

"Thats why this bio-mechanichal war is waged, and the crew of the Prometheus gets involved in this mess!" That actually sounds pretty cool, and like an ambitious adaptation of the Prometheus myth! I'd like it if that featured in the film; however, Ridley Scott has said numerous times that the Space Jockey is a biomechnical suit - it could have a mouth as "biomechanical" = somewhat alive and it could potentially fuse with its occupant's biology. Here's the exact quote from a December 2011 interview: "I think one of the reasons why I’ve never gone back to science-fiction, even though I’ve often noodled around, thought about it, looked for story, looked for material, is that there’s a nice purity to the original Alien. It’s fairly pure. And this one does actually raise all kinds of other questions, because if someone could, a being, could be as monstrously clever to create something like we experienced in the very first one – I always figured it’s a weapon, and I always figured that [the ship in the first Alien] was a carrier of weapons. Therefore, who is that, inside that suit? That wasn’t a skeleton, that was a suit. And if you open up the suit, what do you get inside it? And why were they going, where were they going?" SpartacusPrometheus ForumSpace Jockeys Signal
Thank you That signal, it's beacon, is sending a message to The Engineer's and it is not a warning, it is a message that the transport is Down and did not reach it's destination with the co-ordinates so that the Rest Of The Engineer's can come to his rescue. And what I find GENUIS in all of this is that Ridley gave us all a fantastic False impression with that signal, and we have been speculating about it for 33 years now, but it looks very much like the initial impression it created, that it was a warning to all space travelers to stay away, was completely FALSE and what it actually is, is a cry out for help and given the nature of the derelict's cargo, I can see why now clear as day. There are XENO-CODED ampules on board who's destination was the planet on which the Engineer's are attempting to manufacture the perfect Weapon !!! It all fits !!! & LIke a Glove at that. !!!

Which version are you watching? The original version is by far the creepiest, but if you watch the Director's cut Bluray, they changed it for some reason.(for the worst imo) And your right, does sound like a Facehugger/Alien sound near the end and I agree on why the signal is being sent.A warning

I was watching the DVD directors cut (2003), I'm not a fan of the rip off called Blu-Ray. I agree, Ripley refers to it as a warning to Ash when she studies it as Dallas, Lambert and Kane explore the Derelict.
