I think everyone's ideas are cool. However, if you ever have read the comic Aliens: Apocalypse the Destroying Angels you'll get an idea of what the xeno may look like/be... Basically, its birthed out of a Mala'kak (Space Jockey) and develops into a gargantuan killing machine. It has a "bronze"color pigmentation, is rather bulky, and exists to kill. Overall body structure is the same (elongated head, inner jaw appendage, tail, etc.) except with a few variations, like shorter dorsal spines and a fringe structure on its upper jaw. It begins to slaughter other xenomorphs and its sheer size and movement causes a whole Mala'kak city structure to collapse. Supposedly, it has the ability to jump and climb structures, but its sheer size makes everthing else break apart in the process. So its kind of a concept of what the xeno may be...if it is a xeno, hopefully.....
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumYour thoughts on the Prometheus AlienAug 3, 2011
More to my own comment I guess..... Well, all alien obsessed fans know that the xeno takes on some of the genetic traits of its host. An average adult male is about 5'8 or so in height. The xeno born out of a human host grows to about what..... 7 feet? So size wise, what would happen if it was born out of a Space Jockey? I'm not sure what the exact ratio on that is, but weight wise, it seems to double that of its host and gains a significant amount more height. In ALIEN, Kane was probably 5'8 or so, and like 140-150 lbs? The xeno is 300 lbs and 7 feet tall! Basically, weight doubled that of the host and height increased about a full foot. So back to the Jockey..... According to the comics/novels the being is about 8 to fifteen feet tall and has a good amount of mass too. Its a giant...... I'm guessing the xeno birthed out of that being is going to be anywhere from 15 or 20 feet tall, maybe more. Pretty much the size of a dinosaur or a queen. Instead of a graceful stalking horror its going to be a colossal terrorizing nightmare! But we won't really know until the movie premeires anyway. As far as for the "new" beast's traits, I think its going to have a more in your face attitude and just kill outright instead of disabling victims for impregnation like the creature in the previous 4 films. These things seem like they will be sentinnels rather than servants to a queen. Besides, its technically an earlier proto-type of xenomorph anyway. I guess the idea could be paralleled to prehistoric times. Earlier specimens or life on Earth in the past tended to be larger and possibly more ferocious anyway (precambrian creatures, dinosaurs etc.). It makes sense for this earlier type of xenomorph to be this way as well. Oh, and likely its going to be bio- engineered out of that green glop/precambrial soup by the space jockey or humans. This gives it a more "pure-bred" and superior genetic stock. So its a biological advantage and more of a test-tube type of creation. So humans and Space Jockeys want to create life, but instead end up creating monsters. The Jockeys ironically want to and can create life, but instead end up creating death intentionally or unintentionally through their own creations that cause their people to go nearly extinct (according to the comics) Wait, wait, I'm not finished yet. as far as the metaphorical parallel to Greek mythology (the Prometheus story). I guess everyone has figured this out alreday, but I'm going to say it anyway. The Prometheus space vessel/humans is the parallel to the titan of the myth. Its physically large and represents the humanity and its exploration/conquest of the galaxy. The stolen "fire" is the power of creation/terraforming, bioengineering etc. This power was stolen from the gods/Zeus on Mount olympus, they being paralled to the Space Jockey race. So the gods decide to punish the ambitious Prometheus by tying him up on a gallows and sending a giant vulture or eagle to eat at his entrails day after day (the process constantly repeating itself). So what does the vulture represent? The Space Jockies or Gods send out one of their creations to bring damnation/punishment upon humans (prometheus) and the galaxy. This punishment or creature is the new giant type of xenomorph or raptor (the giant vulture). The raptor tears out the entrails of Prometheus. The xenomorph inviscerates and makes hosts out of humans through chestbursters. So where is Mount Olympus? Most likely, the Alien homeworld. So will the titans climb up Mount Olympus and get into Zeus's domain? Again, I guess we will have to wait and see. So where is kratos when you need him? LOL. So, the process ofpunishment is repeated continuously and with momentum like the slien's life cycle and spread throughout the star systems. Thats my idea/opinion on it. Like evryone else on this site. can't wait! bLAH BLAH BLAH.

Maybe the Company didn't know what type of Alien they were sending the crew to investigate until Ash finds it. Then as soon as they identify the creature the company could seem to already be aware of its existence and potential for a bio-weapon. This could lead to the suggestion that Weyland-Yutani will be involved in Prometheus in some way. Maybe the film will show the first time the Company start getting involved with the Alien/Space Jockey scene. I have heard that Lance Henrikson is rumoured to be in it too. Not sure on how I feel about that. Don't get me wrong he is a great actor but lets move on.

Any way you slice it…whether the Space Jockey crash landed or soft landed on the alien planetoid, “It” or they must have built the Egg Chamber/Hatchery under the derelict ship. It was obviously NOT part of the ship itself, given the vast size of the cavern. If you think the egg silo/chamber was part of the ship…I suggest that you watch the original 1979 ALIEN film again. Notice the scale and size of Dallas, Kane, and Lambert in comparison to the derelict ship and its entrance. Then notice the larger size and immensity of the egg cavern below the Jockey. The mechanical aspects of the egg chamber interiors suggest space jockey design...NOT Alien creature/hive design.
So, whether the Space Jockey(s) crashed or landed, or were on their way to Earth or not…who knows? What the original ’79 film tells us is that they arrived there…built the egg chamber under their ship and that at least one of them died as a result of an alien chestbursting birth.
As for the whole…on their way Earth to punish mankind for stealing their Terraforming machine or technology idea. I don’t mean to be a smart ass but…sounds pretty juvenile. Sounds like something my friends and I would have come up with in the theatre parking lot after seeing ALIEN back in ’79. Anyway, the Terraforming concept was a James Cameron addition in ALIENS. Given Ridley Scott’s sizable ego, I think it’s unlikely that he will use any narrative elements from other films of the franchise (other than his own).
You know what? Since PROMETHEUS takes place decades before the original ALIEN film…Weyland Yutani Company. may not even exist yet. Hmmmm?

Neurion: What are you smoking. I'm all for new ideas but you are in bongland. You say, "whether the Space Jockey crash landed or soft landed on the alien planetoid, It or they must have built the Egg Chamber/Hatchery under the derelict ship. It was obviously NOT part of the ship itself, given the vast size of the cavern." Dude, listen to yourself..... In "Aliens" the ship was entered by the civilian salvage team through a rupture in the hull. Dosen't sound like any soft landing I've heard of. "Under the derelict ship?????? "
Do your reaserch. The eggs were in the hull of the ship podbrain, not under the ship! The pods were being transported. Each bay, between the supporting ribs of the hull, were filled with eggs and the blue mist electronic system signaled any intrusion. I'm gonna stop before I get too rude.
As for the whole…"on their way Earth to punish mankind for stealing their Terraforming machine", That hack script script synopsis is so bogus......The Company exists 30 years before, Ridley has said so, hmmmmmmmm!!Neurion, climb back into your hypersleep chamber. We'll wake you in about a year.
Replyraptor20Prometheus Forumpg-13 or R Rated...Aug 3, 2011
Personally, I feel it could work out with either rating. Going the way of PG-13 would ensure a lot of suspense, and yet the family can still have a good time! But the drawback of that would be lack of blood/gore....... which is trademark of the Alien canon. An R rated version would obviously be more graphic and we will actually see the cast get inviscerated instead of the camera pulling out at just the right moment in PG-13 restrictions by the new xenomorphs or whatever "it" will be in this movie. Regardless of the rating it will be a box office smash anyway. I just hope they show the Space Jockey. An R-rated cut would go straight to dvd if a PG-13 goes theatrical. Space Jockey! Space Jockey! Space Jockey! I WANT SPACE JOCKEY!!!!!!!
ReplyCarterJPrometheus Forumpg-13 or R Rated...Aug 3, 2011
This is the exact reason why I ask the question. I think the majority of us, the hardcore fans, truly believe that it has to be an R rated film. not just because of the gore. Gore doesn't make a good film. The suspense and the whole experience just isn't suited to a younger audience. It needs to include very adult, harsh situations and we need to see the film without any censorship. PLEASE don't just make it for the 'wider' audience. We the fans, or the franchise itself don't need any more fans. Believe in the original concept, with the original director and the fans will come....
ReplySCY385Prometheus Forumpg-13 or R Rated...Aug 3, 2011
I really don't want a PG-13 rating. I want the full Alien experience with everything that entails. The people who are really excited about this film are probably hardcore fans who love the original film Alien. That should be of primary concern to both the film makers and to Fox. I know a lot of young people who have never even seen Alien. I understand wanting to broaden the appeal of the film by giving it a more family-friendly rating. But Alien is not really a family-friendly film and Prometheus shouldn't be either. I want it to be nightmare inducing, raw, and totally Alien.
ReplyChrisPrometheus Forumpg-13 or R Rated...Aug 3, 2011
If they rate thew film and cut out so much to accommodate a PG13 rating, so much will be lost. Look what happened with Alien vs. Predator when FOX insisted on a PG13 rating - it ruined the birth of a possibly great franchise. Let's hope the same does not happen here. I am hoping for a solid, and well deserved "R".

And, is that (pic #16 from the top) the Space Jockey itself? Looks Alien to me.

I just hope it doesn't have a pg 13 rating. That would kill the vibe, horror movies are for adults and so is the entire alien franchise. People like to feel real life emotions when it comes to horror meaning adults saying and doing real things when shit hits the fan, and monsters making a mess, cause thats what monsters do, i mean with moderation of course. Remember it was the chest bursting scene from alien that got millions of people on the edge of their seats. The alien transforming while the team of scientist struggled to survive their own chaos, these are the points of great horror a combination of gore and suspense. If the space jockeys made aliens predators or whatever else they obviously have some form of edge to them so they should be scene as scary dark architects masterminds of the universe, yet still vulnerable to chance, fate, as in they are still creatures created by the creator just real smart with genetics. peace.

@Bishop,
I don't know Bish...Hans Zimmer scored the horror film "THE RING", which was plenty scary...to me at least, and a pretty respectable horror film. But I totally agree and would like to hear a hint of Goldsmith...like what James Horner did with ALIENS, i.e. echo sounds, etc...

Hey...what about Brian Eno. He's pretty capable or producing very interesting, strange, etherial, and beautiful pieces. Might be cool to have him handle a particular theme or two. You know...just to provoke a separation or a different feel when going from human to Alien subject matter or imagery in the film.
I'm really going to miss Jerry Goldsmith's ALIEN music. His howling and haunting tones on the planetoid and Nostromo exteriors, the bizzare electronic echoing tonalities within the Derelict ship, and the beautiful arias that provoke a sense of wonder...so unique and rare in a horror film.

Hi Rick - i would say that when the marines coined the term 'bug hunt' would prove that they have been shipped out before on other missions dealing with different types of nasties. I think the Company did just that by 'covering up the details to the Government'. Or another slant - maybe the Government is the Company...
ReplyNeurionPrometheus ForumThe Plot, The StoryAug 2, 2011
This is the way I’ve always figured the events took place:
USCSS Nostromo leaves Thedus with 20,000,000 tonnes of mineral ore, bound for Earth. Her science officer is replaced with Ash.
While the crew is hyper-sleeping, “Mother” (and probably “The Company” via link) picks up a message of unknown origin and awakens the crew.
According to the computer “Mother”…the Nostromo was rerouted to new coordinates…namely the planetoid or “LV-426.”
USCSS Nostromo encounters what is assumed to be a distress signal emanating from the planetoid.
Android Ash receives orders from the Company to ensure the safety of any alien life form that might be encountered (I don’t think that the Company really or actually knew what they dealing with or investigating at this point).
Probably or maybe…Ash communicates to “The Company” the nature of the facehugger and the embryo within Kane’s body. Additional information about the Alien life form is also probably communicated to the Company as the creature develops.
The Company issues “Special Order 937”…BRING BACK LIFE FORM…ALL OTHE PRIORITIES ARE RESCINDED…CREW EXPENDABLE.
Warrant Officer Ripley discovers that Weyland-Yutani want the Alien specimen and the crew of the Nostromo are expendable. It is revealed Science Officer Ash is in fact an android, who has been protecting the Alien.
…Any way that’s about it. I’ve never thought that the Company had any idea or knowledge that the Alien life form was so hostile. I think they were just interested in potential profits that might arise from contact. As Ash says, “There is a clause in the contract which specifically states any systematized transmission indicating a possible intelligent origin must be investigated.”
In other words...I like to think that the Company didn't know about the Space Jockey or the Alien until they recieved a communication from Ash. No direct conection to Prometheus. Although...LV-426 or a Space Jockey homeworld could be near common trade routes, like the course between Thedus and Earth.
I hope that the new film PROMETHEUS makes no mention of The Company-Weyland Yutani or any other direct human connection to the previous ALIEN films. I hope PROMETHEUS does its own thing...while working in the Space Jockey and Alien creature elements.
What do you folks think?
~Neurion
ReplyNeurionPrometheus ForumThe Plot, The StoryAug 2, 2011
Further observation...
I will add that the Company probably picked up the Alien transmission befor Nostromo left Thedus...due to the fact that they replaced the original science officer with Ash the android...a frickin' Company Man...just 2 days prior to departure. You just know that the Company wanted a piece of what ever was going on...on LV-426...so Ash was the "insider"...the company's ace in the hole.

Can't be. Drawing from the "Alien Universe" It was pointed out and I really hate saying it, in Ressurection it was said that Weyland-Yutani was bought out by Walmart. The animal itself goes "way beyond urban pacification" LOL of all the companies they had to use Walmart as an out for the "company" plus urban pacification that creature wouldn't pacifiy anything just bring them to the herding center for embryo implantation

i like to think that the company didnt know about the alien in alien. however, i think that there will have to be a link between the terraforming of LV-426 in aliens and the main story of prometheus.
my question is: how did mankind come up with a machine that can terraform a planet?
prometheus will be the story of mankind coming across the space jockeys ship on earth, somehow take it back to the space jockeys home planet and humans being humans will steal the machine from our creators upsetting them which in turn makes them send a ship full of eggs towards planet earth ultimatley crashing on LV-426, setting off a distress beacon, which allows the events from alien to occur.
this is what i want to see and think it would be the most pleasing and plausable movie which would answer all the questions needing to be answered.
any thoughts?

Titan,
Could not have said it any better.......in fact as you posted I was writing the same synopsis!!
I bought the Blu-Ray Alien Anthology and watched Alien last night with the Ridley Scott commentary and upon climbing on to the Space Jockey's flight deck Scott names "The Space Jockey" and says that no one really questions where the Space Jockey or the Aliens come from and he says that he would love to make a 5 & 6 to explore their origins......obviously this commentary was made some time after Alien Resurrection.
He also catergorically says that that the Space Jockey's damaged craft on LV-426 is a bomber and that the eggs are its payload!!!
I believe it's chasing The Prometheus back to Earth but doesn't make it and crashes on LV-426.
Weyland-Yutani don't know where it has crashed however they are always ready to respond when they do hence the Nostromo waking up and Ash doing his job.
Anyway they are my thoughts so far and the Alien Anthology is the best bargain in the world....$40.00 on e-bay!!!.......2 versions of each movie and 60 hours of extras all in crystal clear Blu-Ray!!
ReplyTitanPrometheus Forumnephilim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Aug 2, 2011
i couldnt agree more with your take on this. i have been saying since the start that the alien spaceship that crashed on LV-426 was meant for earth.
but i think that the reason why they sent the ship to rid the planet of earth is because we stole the space jockeys terraforming machine which is what made them gods, which upset them, BUT, some how one of the face huggers got onto the space jockey making him crash. if you go back and watch alien and look at the space jockey chest, there you will see that somthing had smashed its way out just like the alien. interesting and very exciting.

Actually, the ALIEN film series belongs to 20th Century Fox…to do with it as they will…“All other priorities are rescinded.” In that sense, FOX is not much different than the Weyland-Yutani Company. It’s all about profits…and making money “hand over fist.” The art or aesthetic aspect of it is Ridley Scott and his film crew’s concern. I don’t think that Ridley is too interested in tying PROMETHEUS to the previous ALIEN films too much. He’s always been kind of a “ground breaker” maverick director who does not like to repeat himself. From his and the screen writers statements so far, it seems that PROMETHEUS may answer a few old questions about the enigmatic Space Jockey and the “Alien” creature’s origins…but not be directly connected to the events occurring in the four “Alien” franchise films. Hence the change in the title to PROMETHEUS…instead of ALIEN 5, .5, “The Beginning” or some other dumb variation.
Now, as far as pleasing the fans, I don’t know…there are a lot of different kinds of ALIEN fans out there. Some prefer the first film…some prefer the second. Some like mixing it up with “Predators”…some really enjoy all of films. And many will gobble up anything that has the title “Alien” attached to it. For myself, I’m a lover of the original ’79 film…predominantly. I also enjoy many of the aspects of Cameron’s ALIENS. I think PROMETHEUS with probably be a pretty good flick…as long as Ridley doesn’t try to challenge all traditional concepts and beliefs regarding the creation of terrestrial life. At least that’s a pet peeve of mine. Sometimes artists can be a bit self indulgent with their own political and religious agendas. Like the rest of us…Ridley doesn’t KNOW diddly about “The Great Mystery”…or whatever you want to call it. So I hope he doesn’t step on too many sacred toes with this story. That is one of my favorite concepts in the original “ALIEN,” the thing was just a survivor, whatever took to thrive, no “delusions of morality.” No message...simple…just survival.

Hey Apollo,
Nope no ego busting here. We're all speculating on the movie and introducing our ideas on whats going on with it. You bring up a good point here, there was a hint that Ridley is going to be partially basing the movie on Erich Von Dannikens work. Also 2012 is just around the corner with all the end times "hype" why not cash in on the "hype" with Prometheus? Oh I do need to point out that the Nephilim themselves weren't giant it was there off-spring that were giants.
On a serious note if you want to learn more about our human past that is outside the realm of the current "knowledge filter" I recommend you get a few books as we suffer from historical amnesia. This isn't fore the faint hearted there is alot of reading several of the books are over 400 pages.
1. Chariots of the Gods - Erich Von Danniken
Paperback $9.25, Kindle Edition $6.99
Erich asks over 200 questions about our human history pre-catholicism.
2. Earth Chronicles (Set of 7 books) - Zecharia Sitchin (R.I.P.)
Paperback $7.99 ea. ($55.93 total), Kindle Edition $7.19 ea. ($50.33)
Zecharia a Sumerian Scholar and translator explores human history going back some 300,00 years ago through the Sumerian texts when the gods created man and tries to build on and answer alot of questions Erich Von Danniken asks. Yeap thats plural "Gods" a little known fact that even in Christianity there is more than one God.
3. Forbidden Archeology - Michael Cremo
Hard Cover $26.37, Kindle Edition $25.00
Michael explores discoveries that fall outside the mainstream that current archeologists can't explain. Examples of pottery being found in Paris, IL in a mine some 100+ft below the surface, Polished Marble Walls found in a Mine in Oklahoma that are 300+ft below the surface, and etc.
4. Ancient Aliens - Produced by Bill Birnes and Giorgio Tsoukalous for the History Channel
Season 3 just premiered on the 28th.
This will help break up the monotony of heavy reading.
Season 1: $11.99, Season 2: $26.49
This will help alleviate the "Prometheus Crack" joneses until the movie comes out. If Ridley really is building off of Dannikens work these books will help I tihnk with the backdrop of the movie.
Regards,
Rick

This question MUST be answered, in order for the entire Alien saga to have any meaning. How did the company know of the existence of the Alien, what it could do, and that it was on LV-426.
First, the special order for Ash, specifically stated that the specimen must be acquired and kept safe for transport. Crew expandable. Which means the company already knew about it. How did it know?
Second, the warning signal picked up by Ripley was translated by mother. It was never fully translated and no one else ever picked it up. My theory...it never really exisited. The company created the false signal, as an excuse to wake up the crew. Mother, of course already programmed by the company to go to LV-426, was probably programmed by the company to relay a false signal. Easy to do.
Third, Ripley throughout all the films, keeps mentioning that the company wants the alien for its bio-weapons division. Why? For what purpose? Is Earth at war with something else? Or does the company just want the knowledge of the alien's physiology.
No offense to Mr. Scott, oh great one, but the series is not yours. No more than it belonged to James Cameroon who punted and avoided all the tough questions that should have been asked in Aliens. I was so psyched about a prequel since this has been bothering me for 30 some years, but if he is going to make some dark space opera on religious tripe, I am more hesitant about seeing it.
