Lawrence of Arabia:
"Could you imagine it talking and what it would say?"
I can imagine it talking like someone who is drunk and has a different language compared to what I speak. A drunk Dane? I have tried to listen to Danish and to me it sounds totally incomprehensible.
Big Dave:
I think that they should have had something like the last supper in the movie or at least something where we get to know the characters better, why they were there, some more about them as persons, things like that. At least I would have appreciated to see something that made me connect with the characters a bit more.
David was and still is interesting but he became too much of the center in AC. They should have handled the Xeno connection a bit better and they should have made it clearer that David wasn’t the one that created it first, just let him explain that with some dialogue.
The Neomorph was interesting. It was an interesting attempt at something new and I think that it succeeded in that part. Maybe the time that they dedicated to introduce the characters took too long and it became sort of slow but I understand the difficulty that they had with that. Alien 1-3 made this a lot better.
AC should have been a bit longer to have things there that we needed to know to connect with the characters in a better way (this is really important to me) and to have things making more sense.
Maybe I am an Alien purist but I am totally against the idea that David is the creator of the original Xeno. If they go that route then I will be very disappointed. David is interesting in a way but he is not that interesting and should not have that much of an importance to the story in general if that makes sense. Artificial persons can be interesting but they shouldn’t have that big role as David and Walter had in the Alien universe and a robot should definitely not be the creator of the Xeno. Fassbender is a good actor but I think that Scott gives him too much of an importance which I think is unfortunate. This is Alien, not Blade runner.
They could go in the direction that he re-created it using Engineer tech but that is another thing.
Alternate and deleted scenes are interesting to watch. I like scenes that for example are scenes when they shall say a line and then they totally forget what they are about to say or if they shall say something that they find really fun and burst out laughing even though it is supposed to be something serious.
Maybe because too many people felt that it was such a let-down so very few would give a F about buying it? This could be a possible explanation, there might be other reasons as to why it hasn’t happened.
I would maybe give it a chance if I could have a look inside it before I would buy it but if I couldn’t do that then it would be a waste of money if I found it to be boring.
One thing that counts to me is how likable the character is in general. If a character is alright but do some small mistakes here and there then I don’t think that is a problem. With Prometheus I found most of the characters to be boring and when they do one mistake after another then I just dislike the characters so that would add to the “dumb scientist doing silly stuff”. Petting a space snake is for example one of the things that I dislike about the movie but if they could have done Fifield and Milburn into better characters then I wouldn’t have had as much of a problem with it. There is a deleted scene where they find a small space worm and it isn’t a problem so when they find the space cobra they have less of a reason to find it deadly. Sure, it doesn’t totally solve it but it makes it less dumb.
Yes Alien had some dumb stuff too but the characters were relatable and also it was the first of its kind. Remember that Alien has reached somewhat of a cult status so people might tend to ignore the problems in that movie. For example, you could expect Kane to be more careful before looking into the Egg or Dallas going alone in the bottom of the ship before he gets killed (don’t walk alone in deadly situations). It is not a movie without flaws but it works in general for me.
@Raven, I think you are confusing the 80s / 90s movie going audience with the current movie going audience. The original AlienAliens worked well even with their flaws because of the audience and movies made in that era (I loved those movies) But you cannot have such dumb decisions being made by your film characters in this day and age and expect to get away with it. The viewers are to a large extent more sophisticated with the quality of cinema available now. Alien Covenant couldn't cut it with asking audience to take it seriously with some mind boggling plot holes and insane actions of the covenant crew.
BluRay, novel, Neca, Covenant T-shirt, anything would be cool indeed
LOL, I was in Hopkinsville, KY (by Clarksville, TN) on a contract job for 9 months. Man I swear EVERYONE that grew up there couldn't look at you with both eyes. One eye was hunting rabbits the other hunting squirrels.
Do you recommend to read the novel before seeing the movie? I did not stay away from spoilers so far, on the contrary. Unfortunately by the time I'll be back on terra firma the movie won't be in theaters any longer.
ALL of David's actions are calculated.
We didn't see all of David's movements and actions aboard the Covenant. His access to MUTHUR would have allowed him to immediately locate empty cases he could use to slip his two smuggled embryos into after which he swallowed them for safe keeping until he got everybody under control and could then deposit the embryos for the journey.
I find it hard to believe that RS would sign off on the Engineers in Covenant being so different from the ones in Prometheus unless it was intentional.
I'm thinking that the Engineers on Planet 4 are a version of Engineer/Human that were seeded on the planet that developed a little differently than we did on Earth. Since we've got the same DNA I think Humans could just as accurately be called Engineers, right?
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! ((HUG)) :D <3
Been away for a bit due to technical issues (Connection gremlins) and I get back to see this. :)
Pretty sure your hubby would be MORE surprised if there wasn't any ALIEN-related humor involved, given how much of a devotee` of this universe you are. :)
@BigDave I am utterly fascinated by your analysis of this huge chunk of missing story. I would love to read that script you wrote!
Do you know or want to know gender?
It will not be this:

Thanks!!! ^_^
<_< ...And...yup...ahem...definitely no hybridizing or genetic experimentation here! No siree! Perfectly traditional fetus, I assure you. >_>
Lol, that sounds fun. I sometimes do dramatic reenactments of Kane's and Oram's chestbursting scenes.
Wow, awesome, MonsterZero thanks! :)
From reading the novel I am convinced that there was no consciousness-download at play and that Walter is still alive on Planet 4.
In the novel, when David (pretending to be Walter), reaches the rendezvous sight for the cargo lift, he warns Shaw that David is still alive and at large.
From this we can see that David must have deactivated Walter again and was not confident in how long Walter's incapacitation would last. He likely swapped clothes with Walter. David was hoping that if Walter did come running out to warn them, they'd mistake him for himself.
I want that figurine of Shaw that comes with David's severed head! :D
I'm not going to buy it for myself because it'd be so much cooler to say I won it in a contest...
Whaaat!? Then why does everyone say there is?? The guy at Barnes and Noble told me there was...
So you mean, I have no hope of ever reading a Prometheus novel, even if I learn Japanese? :(
YESSS!!!
The book explains this and SO MUCH that people were wondering after watching the movie. Everyone's questions will be answered if they read the book!
I love the book SO MUCH!!!
Be warned, Lawrence of Arabia , quoting the book becomes addictive!!
I like that facebursting scene, where it's coming out of the eyes and nose! That would be cool and terrifying to see!
The bursting scene where it comes out of his whole body looks cool in the image, but I don't think it would work as well on screen.
Mostly because, part of what's scary about bursting scenes is the victim's reaction -- the shaking, convulsing, writhing, the panicked movements, -- all that. If the Alien is bursting out from everywhere, you can't really tell how much of the motion is from the victim's reaction and how much is just being caused by the Alien itself, as it emerges.
As far as the neomorph, I liked the one that they went with for the film. The one that popped out of Ledward was scary because it reminded me of some sort of messed up demon-cat and cats creep me out as it is, lol.
Good point!, under (HFD) test of Machover, although it was never applicable in adult subjects can give us some conclusion, if the head was blurred indicates shyness and withdrawal. The person who omits the facial features indicates an aggressive delineation of their environment, and is evasive in character in relationships with those around them. If omitted facial features indicates that his relationships with people are poor and hostile.
@dk
While David is no doubt capable of it, an uncannily detailed sketch produced with an inhuman speed could be very unnerving. Yes, he most certainly could explain it away, but he is smart enough to not put himself into a position where he would have to.
It sort of falls within his knowledge of the fact "...you people are more comfortable interacting with your own kind".
A drawing from someone who is not a skilled artist shows effort and reveals vulnerability.
I feel that David's intentions were calculated in this matter.
Lol! Well, you have to admit, he is a pretty weird dude.
Oh man, I would love a documentary about the Alien universe. I'd especially enjoy learning more about the Synthetics in general.
...Like, I saw David eating oatmeal or something, and I saw Ash drinking something that looked like milk (or similar to Android blood? Maybe they run low and need to replenish?)
Just...what are they eating and why do they eat it!?
Even without crossbreeding, hybridizing and other genetic experimentation I'm sure it will turn into a successful specimen. Congratulations.
I sometimes crouch or squat, and then I slowly rise to full height pretending I am a xenomorph.
To be honest the torrented 1080p Korean version you can find on Piratebay looked better than the theater version I watched. Probably because of sound distortion and worse resolution.
I know an Alien fan from Japan and he said there is actually no Japanese Prometheus novelization.
I ain't rich either lol.Anything is cool with me.Books,Figures,Graphic novels etc.
They did not send Walter down to the planets first, but they did send him outside the ship first to scan for pathogens in the book. That's the 'follow up' Daniels was referring to.
Bumped for worthiness imo
The issue I see here is about ‘depth of field’ or ‘deep focus’. Certainly over the last few years camera technology has advanced a lot but not at the same rate as what people generally view movies on. Although more people are gradually viewing things on HD, what is starting to jump out more these days is where depth of field has been used in the past as compared to today. Alien is not the kind of movie that lends itself to needing a lot of depth of field, so is not that noticeable, and especially with the equipment that was used back then, but it is there, just not used as much.
The best example for the use of depth of field is to look at old sports pictures where a sports star would be pictured during match action and in the background, the sponsors logos can be seen very clearly on billboards in the background. Sports media now uses the ability of depth of field to blur the background so that sponsors logos can no longer be clearly seen. This is so that payment to those sponsors does not need to be paid. Depth of field is a way of camouflaging a background, which is great for newspapers to save money. The problem is when this same technique is used in movies. In lower budget films, blurring the background with the use of depth of field can sometimes help polish a turd.
When used well, depth of field can give an almost 3D impression without actually being 3D. The problem is that the viewing media around today, highlights and amplifies where it was used in older movies, and also highlights its over use in cheaper productions used today. It is certainly something that has always been part of a film makers armoury, but the severity of lens range that is used now is becoming more noticeable.
Extreme depth of field imo, is something that is now being over used, and is very clearly seen at both ends of the budget spectrum. Some people like it and some people don’t. Alien Covenant was shot with the purpose of viewing in Imax in mind, so this is where there is a depth of field issue I feel.
Rick Nothing out of the tap except for maybe Ft Knox- plenty of bleach- I had to personally test it! If it tastes a bit like a proper swimming pool, you are probably good to go at least for the short term. LOL! There are specifics and procedures but no one here probably cares!
dk, when in KY you didn't drink any of the water did you?
