@Big Dave - I suppose Sir Ridley saw the Flute scene as deserving of more time for character development for Walter & David, than anything relating to Shaw & the Engineers.  Do we assume that is because of what Sir Ridley has planned for Walter & David in the next installment?

I was lucky enough to see Alien upon its release in 1979 in one of those crappy old theaters---you know, the flat floor that you have to look across everyones back, and the old timey blood red curtains with the gold fringes and tassels hanging all over the place, and the HUGE tall ceilings since there are ONLY two theaters in the HUGE building (then new, now non existent) ---after reading the book several times previously, along with my friends and my mom for my birthday. I was only 10 or 11 at the time, so my mom had her consternations about taking us to an "R" movie, of course, but she gave in, as I demanded it, and boy, we had a fantastic, though scary!, time. LOTS of people there, and several got up to leave after the dinner scene, and some still managed to come back (I assume after going to the bathroom to express themselves).

What a great experience.

As I posted above, Steve Messing, who designed and 3D sculpted the mural, said that in his mind the alien form in the mural is the ultramorph, an earlier version of the xenomorph, created when an Engineer sacrificed himself using the virus to create it, and he thinks the Engineers kind of worshipped it.

Yes, I'm a huge fan of original Star Trek. I had the biggest crush on Spock in high school. I literally had his picture (and Data's from TNG) taped to the inside of my locker.

I am having a lot of fun with your cryptic answers, and I enjoyed the mysterious Star Trek clip.

John Spaith's Master Narrative shown on the Prometheus Blu Ray said this about the Engineers procreation:

"Individual Engineers live for a hundred thousand years. Ages ago their race abandoned sex and gender, reproducing by more abstract methods. In recent millennia they have ceased to reproduce altogether."

There was more about them being on the verge of some kind of transcendence where they would have completely abandoned their physical forms, but a lot of that text was truncated.

We don't know if any of that background will be used in future movies, but it is there on the Prom Blu Ray.

Here is what Ridley said about the LV-223 installation in The Furious Gods.

"...because they (Engineers) are not of this planet, where we are right now (LV-223), we will find out during the story, that actually this moon - I always parallel it to, I believe, the British in the second World War developed anthrax. All their experimentations went on in this place in, I believe in the Irish channel, which is like an old power station, an atomic nuclear reactor, which is locked up for the next 500-600 years because you can’t cleans anything of anthrax.

So I always think of and refer to it (LV-223) as the Anthrax Island of this race called the Engineers."

Sorry, I don't see any nano machines there. Where are you getting that idea from? I see a small cloud of black dots.

In the movie we see those dots flying in unison, like a flock of birds or school of fish.

The film clearly states and shows what these are, and the book even more so.

I don't recall anyone saying the pose of the alien figure in the mural was in the form of open armed welcome and embrace. I stated what I think the mural means (in my mind) several posts above.

Steve Messing was designing this room back when they were working with the Spaith's script, when when what became the Deacon was the Ultramorph. He designed and made the 3D sculpt for the mural. He is also the only one who has really said anything about the altar and mural:

• The altar area was meant to pay homage to Giger.

• The mural included some 'easter eggs', which were the early Giger face hugger designs that were not used in the original film, and maybe some queen visual reference (although he never said "queen")

• He thought an Engineer had sacrificed himself to create the ultramorph using the virus. In his words, that was an earlier, purer form of the xenomorph.

• The mural had a relief sculpture that gave the impression of an alien form with flowing structures surrounding it. He said this was the ultramorph.

• The Engineers worshipped the ultramorph. The mural was a religious sculpture.

That is all he said about it. Even though the ultramorph was later changed to the Deacon in the Lindelof drafts, that really does not require altering his back story on the mural. But it only seems to be HIS back story. That said, Messing's explanation works perfectly for me.  

I think trying to come up with deeper meanings for a piece of set dressing that is not in the script and practically never mentioned by the writers or director, is just making up your own fiction. Nothing wrong with that, but it does not appear they had any deeper thoughts on it, just Messing.

The altar and green gen is another story though. Ridley obviously had something in mind when he changed the bowl to the gem. It could have just been that visually he wanted something more interesting, or it could be that he and the writers had an idea for back story involving the gem, to be developed later.

This summarizes every "connection" or "meaning" that every person finds in every work of art, of literature, of film, etc....

Its hard to be sure on the Motes...  they could be tiny tiny Nano-Tech but they are definitely a Virus related Pathogen, to me they looked like Microscopic Parasitic Organisms that must Enter a Host and then Merge Together and start to take on a Hosts DNA to form the Neomorph.

I dont see the Motes as being those Insects that David showed... this scenes was David showing how something related to the Motes had tried to infect the Insects with a kind of proboscis

Very interesting thread maybe the Newbies may want to give TWO Cents.... but first time to deal with the Spammers. :)

My draft was to gear up a 3rd movie that explored the Merger and sending a Mission to LV-223 it did not cover any Xenomorphs etc... the next one would.

The other 30% or so was to cover David and Shaw journey and arrival at Paradise....    Then another 10-15% would have covered Engineers including Flash Backs for clues.

But it was just not being able to find which Story/Plot and Connections to settle on as for how to deal with the Engineers and their Agenda and those Questions... Why did they create us, what was the Agenda.. who created them, what purpose they serve and how does Mankind and the Xeno-Strain Experiments on LV-223 all fit.

But i had a number of theories to how to do this but it was hard work picking just ONE and getting it to Work..

So i ABANDONED my Draft :(

But it was having TWO Alternative Sinister Agendas at hand.. its just which to use and could they both work...  The one did revolve around Gigers Ideas and Concepts and tied into the Annunaki Tale of Sorts.

We have to remember Peter Weyland was the CEO, then it appears Vickers was next in line but maybe there is some potential power struggle or other people lined up so it does not make Vickers 100% CEO when Weyland Dies.

With Both gone missing i am sure we have to ask what goes on back at HQ.... The Yutani Company are a long time Rival of Weylands Company, it seems they too are interesting in Synthetics and AI and even had a law suit in regards to some Patents over the David Model which Yutani lost.

Yutani are also looking like a BIG player in the Communications and Information Technology Sector... it appears they are like the Apple and Microsoft of the Alien Universe.  Even as far as Weyland using some of their ECU's in their own Technology.... Yutani also appear to have been hacking the Video Calls between Dr Shaw and Peter Weyland and so there is definitely some espionage on their behalf.

So we have to wonder how the Merger Came to be, how could Weyland Force to Purchase or Merger with Yutani?  With its TWO CEO's missing in Action?

Its more likely this event plus information that Yutani has on Weylands Mission, could prove to be a vital Bargaining Chip that allows Yutani to be the Force at play..

The Prequel Novel could show that there is indeed some objection to the Merger, but certainly for some reason the mission to Orage-6

My Prometheus 2 draft i worked on in  Late/Early 2013-2104 which i abandoned did touch upon the Corporate side.

where as there was 6 Months no contact from Prometheus, meant a Process regarding the shuffling of Power was to play out.... The next in line was Weylands younger Brother (played by Lance Henriksen) but he was old too and so it was his Son who would be in control in the future.

But the appearance of Miss Vickers by surprise prevents this as she then reveals a Will and Testament by Peter Weyland via Video Will, that leaves everything to Vickers.  We see Vickers has a Special Directive at play to do with Operation Rook a secret tower well a Weyland Tower with a Special Computer and Program and a Advanced David Synthetic.  The idea behind my Draft (which had a Weyland and David Prologue that was similar but David was not playing any Piano etc... but playing a Game of Chess but talked about Creation and God etc, And Weyland talks about how as a creator he is a GOD and then David takes  Weylands King with a Bishop and then David asks why Weyland did not sacrifice his Queen, which Weyland had said i already Sacrificed my Queen, i put my Lifes Work ahead of her and the only thing i have left of her is Meredith.   David then Tells Weyland he could have positioned his Rook better in the last move to protect the King and Queen....  Weyland then says "every king has his reign but then he dies, its inevitable"  But i have been Building This TOWER with my Works, My Greatest Achievement...  

David then Smiles, and Weyland says while i have been a creator and created you.. my work is not finished, creating Life alone does not make you a GOD as the Gods are Immortal and one day i hope to find the Key to My Immortality and You David are my works to achieve my Goal, My Salvation, My Holy Grail.   This Place, my Works within this TOWER are my Insurance so that a King never has to Die.

David replies.. This is the Rook that you hope to Save your King, so am i just the Pawn... Weyland then claims No David you are My Knight.

The Conversation was further and deeper than this, but it was  a DAVID Dream Flashback as he was looking at Shaw in the Cryo-Pod on the Juggernaught... not being able to view her dreams like he did in Prometheus he wondered.. what is Dr Shaw Dreaming now....   Then we get Davids Dream... But we also get Dr Shaws Dream too.

Anyway so the intention  was that Weyland was Building Synthetics as a way to one day, if Weyland could transfer his Soul into Davids Body he would become Immortal... But Weyland could not succeed in this... it failed.. it was far from Perfect.  Which is why as a last desperate Chance... he decided to take Dr Shaw's offer in the Hope OUR Creators could Save Him, as his Experiment has not yet came 100% close.

This was Operation Rook... a attempt to place Weylands Mind into a AI Program, to then be placed into a Synthetic.  But the trails on a AI alone (no Body) proved flawed, had problems... and the AI as a Program was corrupting and having a Melt Down... and while it had Weylands Ambitions it was flawed and Weyland knew it would not in effect be the same as Weyland passing on his Soul to a Synthetic he had not perfected it yet.

May Draft had a surprise at the End... Peter Weylands Brother had been taken in Ill Health as he was disputing Vickers claim as the Company was supposed to be passed on 50/50 and not 100% to Vickers...   so we are asking did Vickers poison her Uncle?

Its revealed at the end that her Cousin had done this, and he also made a deal with Yutani that if they removed his Father and his Cousin Vickers from Power...  then he would give Yutani the rights over all of Weylands AI and Synthetics...  but he would keep all of Weylands Science and Teraforming/Space Travel Technology.

A deal was done and Yutani sent in TWO Geisha Androids to kill Vickers...  but she put up a Fight and even Manhandled and Destroyed them.... her Cousin Micheal saw this and was puzzled...  she then finds out his plans to Assassinate her and informs him he has lost... he can not be CEO...  and he will be had for Attempted Murder.... He and the viewers then Notice a Milk Substance running down her ear....   

Thats it... VICKERS is a Robot... knowing this Micheal Orders her to be Desroyed.. she battles a few Yutani Mercs, but suffers Leg injuries and body ones and she is on the Floor.

Micheal appears over her.. points a Gun at her Head.. and Says... Bishop takes King.....  she says i am a Queen...  and he says oh yeah...  and what of your King?  your father is Dead the company is Mine... and he then goes to Shoot her.

And she says.... A King has his reign and then it dies, but a King who has a Great Castle will never Die.... and then says Rook Takes King....  as she is then Shot in the Head.

@Kethol I'm aware that we have small insects on earth, but if you look at the mote's size and appearance http://www.avpgalaxy.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/24052017_04.jpg It looks quite different. The mote constituents look like small "nano machines" instead of small wasp like insects.

Some believe Revelation to be about a Future Event that has yet to happen, and so would not be the Engineers attempt 2000 years ago... But then other side of the coin is that Revelation is attributed to the Fall of the Roman Empire Times.

The Original Idea before the Black Goo was simply Nano-Scarabs...   

But thats not to say its not fun to try and match Biblical References to the Events of the Movie, which some have done with Leviticus 2:23 we can see how  this could connect.. but thats not to say it was ever considered by RS and those who worked on Writing the Movie etc.

Fun to speculate and find little things that could connect though, and LV-223 we saw 5 Temples.. but we did not see further in the Horizon and so there could be more...  The idea behind Spaights Draft was there was a Original if you would Organism and then 7 different attempts to Re-Engineer it into 7 different kinds, which would be loaded into different Cargo Holds.

Spaights draft was very reliant on the Biblical Themes and Quotes and so who knows... only that it was not LV-223 in that movie draft but LV-426.

My guess or assumption is 25% of China is $11 million take home, then roughly $190 million global not China at ,40-50% =$90 million take home so $103m +half of $20 m Japan is $12ish so my rough(generous math) guess is $115 to $105 million studio take before dvd streaming services/income. Who knows what was spent on marketing but maybe they are kinda close to break even or edge of slight profit right now. Bet they hoped for a better showing but is what it is. Will Scott get the chance or sign up for another adventure? I'll be waiting anxiously for the reviews

There is an hdrip on many pirate sites now. It's like bad 720p quality idk how that stuff works but it's already in the wild. I imagine it could have come from a free stream. I understand that if the engineers have lost the ability to procreate then they would look for other ways to prolong the species. but that's what confuses me. why the hell would they sacrifice their own to spawn some other species? theyv lost the ability to procreate in the traditional manner but surely if they found another way to create life wouldn't they be spawning engineers? I get that they may have found another species and over time believe it to be a great honour to sacrifice themselves for what ever reason but then that would mean that the mural has another meaning besides procreation in relation to them having lost the ability to procreate. I don't care if they r from another world. they r our makers. we r them. we may differ in beliefs, technology and maybe other ways but our basic natures r the same. intelligent, curious, aggressive and self aware, which means they would do what we would do in the same circumstances and that would be the survival of our own. we wouldn't sacrifice what little we had left to spawn another species. if we had found an alternate method to reproduce wed use it to create the next generation of our own kind.

i don't believe the deacon in Prometheus can possibly be the same type of deacon depicted in the mural. the sequence of events that produced the deacon in the film surely were not taken into account when the weaponised mutagen was being created. a human male infected with just the right amount of mutagen in the required manner then mating with a female? nah don't buy it. the deacon in the mural will be something else. maybe the original creature found on another planet long ago?

I live exactly 1 mile away from where ALIEN was filmed. Clue: It's in the United Kingdom!

I promise you that this is all way easier than you think. I admire your enthusiasm, but it is all about fun. We may spar here and there but anything I am connected with is for fun. I will leave higher minded serious stuff to other more capable/qualified members. I like that stuff but I am not on that level.
