The pathogen bombardment, with the urns emptying from the chamber like a magazine on a gun, rosenthals demise, i reckon she had an idea she was a goner.
The alien had its way with her sexually, you can hear it over the intercom as rips is sprinting along the corridor from the bridge, a sound like a bicycle tyre pump being operated fast, then lambert screams, thats what i make of it.
My favorite part has to be from the beginning part where they show the ship in space till about when the credits started to run. I guess if I had to pick just one, that would be it.
Really, how to you pick? This was a phenomenal film. Anything with the robots in it was perfect, the Neomorph, the Med Bay scene, the standing tall Neomorph, the David switch reveal, cinematography (oh my god the cinematography), David anything again, beginning David, bombing of the Engineers...
Pretty much the entire film.
--"The David Walter switch at the end was still not too surprising. Maybe they could have done it in a better way."--
Lots here I disagree with but this one stands out. Why would it be surprising in the first place? It was basically telegraphed 100% what happened but with out showing it left it only slightly an obvious action. The question was when they would reveal it to the other characters. That's like being upset about dramatic irony, the audience knows more than the characters and the reveal is not for you but the characters. Just like the Facehugger scene.
Maybe not a connection and I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but I couldn't help but notice that in Blade Runner the lights in Deckards apartment all light up when he walks near them, and turn off when he walks away. Exactly how they do in Davids workshop on the Engineers planet! =P
There has to some deliberate connections I'm sure. If not it's still interesting to find all the parallels. Thank you. This was a great read!
I really enjoyed the Neomorph too! I've become more found of it than the Zeno in this movie. It has a really cool life cycle from how it can be produced. Hope we get to see more gruesomeness from it!!
I also really liked Neo's first scene, the way it just bursts out Ledwards back and plops on the floor in a splat of ectoplasm! And the way Ledwards body just goes limp backwards with no spine! Really terriful stuff!! =)
Then when its starting to grow and Karine slips and falls the Neo quickly turns its head in the direction of the thud as if it's senses just alerted itself to the presence of its prey in the room. That was really good! I thought it added to the Neo's viscousness!
C'mon there was so many good things to really like about this movie!!!
Lambert appers hanging without pants and shoes with blood running and falling from her toes. It is logical that the scene was never included due extremely violent and bloody and it was as unpleasant as the shower scene on AC because the Xeno tail touch with the same sexual instinct it is connected with Lambert death, unfortunetly It does not show how she Upworth (Callie Hernandez) was killed.

I don't think any other Alien movie had so many walk outs like Covenant. And all those people are not coming back for a sequel.
For me the most disturbing part about Lambert’s death was not actually seeing what happened, but hearing how Lambert’s scream just suddenly stopped. That moment of Lambert’s voice going suddenly silent, I thought was a very chilling touch and was suggestive of more than rape, and something too horrific to imagine. It is moments like that, that put more of an edge on a scene than purely graphic gore imo.
They should bring back digitigrade and biomech. And fix its god awful face and anatomically-impossible thinness. Good lord.
I loved the Neomorph! I Think in the grand scheme of things when all these alien movies are over we'll look back and say man that neomorph was crazy. I also think when its all over these prequels will surpass all of the older alien movies!
There really is nothing proto about this. It's basically a straightup Xeno. Very little originality on this which is probably what Ridley wanted.
@Djamelameziane - "Ridley : "I've lost the plot" . Sad but true ... that basically sums up thus whole situation. Who is in charge of the story then? New writers each film so it gets pulled in different directions. A director who unfortunately is a bit old and also has not plotted out this universe. A legendary director none the less probably adding to the problem. Surrounded by yes men and no one telling it straight... he's become an island cut off from critical intervention i guess. If only he humbled up and got a stronger support in the way of continuity and someone to grow the universe out and make it solid."
Agreed.
IF he made it so the "engineers" we see in Covenant were just another race of humanoids that were created by the "Elders" and David wasn't the progenitor of the original aliens and the "real engineers" world was Gigeresque; then I would forgive him for Covenant.
But, I held hope for Covenant and was bitterly disappointed. I will not make the same mistake again!
@DK
Agree DK too she was raped and I found another topic written by Chris about this matter here: http://www.alien-covenant.com/news/alien-covenant-trailer-analysis-protomorph-xenomorph
Many fans wonder whether or not Lambert was in fact "raped" by the Xenomorph, but that outcome was never shown, nor confirmed - only implied. Upon discovering Lambert's remains, Ripley noticed Lambert was partially undressed as well, but her death was quick, suggesting the Alien may have derobed her after she died. Lambert's actual cause of death was insinuated to be a heart attack brought on by the sheer terror she experienced when faced with the Xenomorph up close. The tail reaching under Lambert was likely the Xenomorph using it to bring her closer for inspection before she died.
I don't think the whole rape thing is necessary, to me, it just seemed like a dominant creature toying with it's prey.
Bit like when cats bat mice around for ages, before finally killing it and walking away.
I like to think Lambert was raped- it just makes the Alien seem more sadistic and scary. I also like that it was ambiguous enough to wonder and debate about it.
Fantastic artwork! Shame about the film
Those fcehugger embryo's would make an awesome collector's piece merchandise. Like a glass snowball kind of thing. Shake it and Black Goo swirls inside.
How about an urn shaped Black Goo lava Lamp!! hahahaa
Is better movie than Prometheus in my opinion. Backburster scene is amazing and ship enviroment and design much better.
I loved this movie! I was almost too excited for it to get going & then it was over. Juggernaut crash site, backbusrter, neomorph, scorpion ship & Engineer bombing!!
@VivisectedEngineer - I did like your post about Oram. The problem I kept experiencing was that each time I went to your post, it left this page & went to the SciFied site, for some reason? You may want to re-post it?
OMG thank you!
Isn't that basically how it looked in the final film? It looks like an in-film CG render.
@Chris - Absolutely beautiful!
@Michelle Johnson
“1) He consciously has made no decision to define the "Black Goo”
No, not exactly. ADF said he did not have time to develop it because he had other more overt things to develop. He also said he did not want to talk about something that the film makers haven’t expanded on because they may in the next installment.
“2) He also answers the question about whether David created the lifecycle and the Alien.“
Not exactly. He was asked if David "made" the “aliens”, or did he tinker with material left behind by the Engineers? He said “a little of both.” He then talked specifically about the xenomorph we see, and whether David or the Engineers made it, or if David just improved on the xenomorph. ADF said he still thinks that is left ambiguous.
He also said he added David’s line in the book about the xeno being a more ‘advanced model’. Fox did not object, and he said that ‘fans can make of that whatever they will’. He never addresses it in the interview, but there is also the line in the book where David specifically says the Engineers made the face hugger egg, and he had nothing to do with it.
"My reason for being direct with you is you view people who find all of this confusing as simply not paying attention. "
Not at all, but some definitely did not, based on posts and questions here and on other forums. I do think all of the information anyone needs to know to understand the basic concepts of the pathogen and what it does IS in the movies, and even more so in Foster’s book.
There are many reasons some people are confused - some may have missed things because they have not paid attention and missed obvious connections. I'm not implying they were not trying. I did not make connection on a few things until watching Prom a second time, and had a few "Doh" moments once something became more obvious. The movie is designed that way, specifically to make you think.
Some people do not understand the basic concepts of DNA, infection, and mutation (even some of the film makers), and some just refuse to understand because they did not like this aspect of the movies in the first place. Others simply do not want to be engaged to think too much and pay close attention when watching a movie and would rather everything be simply answered. Nothing wrong with that. Some people also want to over complicate it, when it is really not that complicated.
You can agree or disagree with anything as you wish, but the points in your original post still had nothing to do with the subject of my post.
Yeah, it symbolizes decaying flesh in a way and we're programmed to be turned off by that. Definitely an effective design choice.
That nose one!! That makes me sick, it's wonderful. I can't stand holes, they are disgusting which makes that a terrifying monster.
nice discussion makefree00! i can definitely see some religious allegory in the movie. some of your suggestions may be a little far fetched but none the less I applaud you. the whole shaw being virgin mary is pretty cool. Have you seen the short clip of the crossing? when shaw is laying in the cryosleep chamber theres definitly a virgin mary vibe going on.
Right? I was hoping we would've seen a "spawn of Shaw" with that kind of humanoid / alien aesthetic. Would've been crazy!
The third image is very Species like, love it!
Voynich manuscript indeed has similar things, who knows if RS/FOX considered this manuscript for AC?
@Svanya
Indeed it was HR Giger who made the comment about them being grown, this was his thoughts on them. I think HR Gigers ideas and concepts are what should have been followed and are what my P2 draft was to start to address but P3 would have covered.
"I figured the fruit, wheat and water(in the drizzle room) were likely instrumental. I do wonder how he managed to keep her quarantined from the pathogen."
Indeed the point i was pondering is if there was a limited supply inside the Cathedral, David can not be infected and so he can scavenge around the outer reaches of the City for Food, a Engineer/Humanoid would maybe not risk this due to risk of infection... i would assume some wondered outside at some point (provided my theory was correct) and got infected.
I would say overtime the Infection was clear, but still left the odd Neomorph Spore lying around. I just think its a more logical explanation rather than a large number of Engineer Survivors had survived and somehow David managed to evade capture and even use them at his Will.
The only way this would be possible would be if David had some Bargaining Chip (Black Goo) to make a Covenant with the Survivors, which David would break.. Or that David could Control or Unleash Organisms created from the Outbreak onto the Engineers to basically overpower/capture them.
backburster by far was amazing!, and Covenant yourney at beggining I was thrilled.
I still have to force myself to watch AVPR maybe i will today ;)
I would say its coincidence as FOX seems to have no plans to tie the Alien and Predator Franchises together as far as links to Alien Canon but this can change.. and i mean regarding Movies Alone.
I would say the Blue Solvent spreads like a Virus and breaks down the Genetic Material in the same way we saw the Sacrificial Goo, only it does not then store and re-compile the infected Organisms DNA It just simply destroys it.
But there is a flaw with Prometheus as far as the Urns the Writing on them is not Engineer, it does not match the writing in the LV-223 Temples, the Juggernauts or the City in Alien Covenant and yes it does look a bit like Predator writing ;)
But i dont think there is any connection though.
Nice find hox
I think at this point we need to look at the connections as purely Easter Eggs until any concrete connections are made in future movies, as for the Mutagen i dont think its connected to the Black Goo as no Human as far as Modern times had came into contact or was even aware of the Engineers Bio-Weapon until after the Prometheus mission which was 75 years after the events of Blade Runner.
@Carter Burke - you hit it on the nail about getting excited prematurely. Again, IMHO, it is not an Alien movie if the movie is just focused on the engineers and I think the engineers piece spoils what was built from Alien 1 to 3. I been a fan since I saw Alien in the movie theater in 1979 but I am so disappointed in their 21st Century movies.
When they first see the crashed Juggernaut it sounded like Apocalypse Now when the first enter Col. Kurtz's compound. That is epic shit right there!! I love the sound and look of many sets/ships except the interior of David's Necropolis cave. It was just too dark. Then the dialogue is so over the top and pretentious with dumb characters again, it just ruins all the hard work on making those awesome sets of the ships and stuff. Won't spend another dime on a Ridley Scott directed film. Love the person but hate their actions..
Big Dave I see what your shooting for but..... Prometheus made a big deal about how intimate it was when the elders/whoever/seeding jockeys go to a desolate planet and do their thing/create life in their image. I just feel these urns are the opposite of the intimate one blue dude sacrifice to start a living planet. It's a bunch of bio weapon urns that uses several nasty means of death all in each urn/missile.
I have saw it once and that is enough for my wallet for a film of that caliber. I was not thrilled with the movie and if Awakenings goes the Engineer path; then I will wait until it hits HBO lol.
