Neomorph Alien: Covenant ForumFavorite parts/scenes/moments in Alien:Covenant

• The Neutrino Burst and the immediate aftermath including Branson's brutal death. The malfunctioned pod and how the newly awoken crew desperately tried to tear it open was dramatic and horrifying. Ridley in his ace here, what a way to start the journey.

• The first landing sequence, nobody makes atmospheric entries as cool and realistic as Ridley imo, with turbulence, thunderclouds and contrails as icing on the cake.

The following three sequences play out in succession but are nonetheless worth mentioning individually.

• The bloodburster scene following the rapid infection of the spores. The pulsating and rather timid music track during this whole sequence really added to the sense of tension and panic. Probably the highlight of the film if you ask me. Followed by;

• The Neomorph attack in the wheat field, a darker copy of a similar scene in Jurassic World, here with the one hyper aggressive, lightning fast Neomorph jumping out of the wheat, howling like a crazy monkey. Great sound design, pure terror.

Then Not Obi-Wan Kenobi appears out of nowhere and scare the Neo's away, which leads to;

• The escape towards the temple, through nightmarish environments with dead engineers piling over each other, all backed up with a fantastic and twisted music track ("dead civilization".) I just wish it was slightly longer with more views of the surrounding areas as the survivors look around.

• The chestburster scene. I hated the fact that David was the creator of the xenomorph but the scene itself was strangely compelling with a notably touched David (Frankenstein) being proud of his monster and that his extensive research payed off. The scene once again enhanced by a great music track.

• The facehugger attack in the basement, probably the best representation of the facehugger horror-factor.

@ Capt Torgo - David needs to get sprayed with something, for sure!

It has to be a one off because Fifield turns in a zombie so that is canon right? Plus it takes him overnight to become that stage of zombie with a face full of it. Now add a drop to a fungi and you get the most dangerous hybrid ever scene. Obviously being goo bombed by a cloud burst of goo urns is scary and immediate death but to me some plastic trays with black goo spore pods is ten times more dangerous than a juggernaut full of eggs. Because even with a bio suit those spores will find a way.

I really hope the new Predator is good or even decent to heal the pain of AC. The black goo is just too much now that it's also flying nanites and sentient spore particles! Not sure if the Dawn soap could fight Satan's black hell-oil goo but it sure could look cool. If David got sprayed with blue goo what would happen?

VERY good expositional/technical writing, my friend. I really enjoyed reading that, and it is quite hard to blow holes in your theories, whether or not they are "true". Thanks for the effort, and write more!

@VivisectedEngineer - Very interesting character assessment of David!  He was kissing his Father's bottom, per se?

David is a charmer, but only so long as you allow him what he wants from you!  Lucifer incarnate!!

I wondered if there would be any further information to be gathered from the drawings and other pieces.

Great find, im not able to see clear enough to translate but would be interested in doing so if we could clean them up and make them a touch sharper.

i will search through and see what i can do but if we can keep sharing any progress on here would be amazing. There are enough of us to get through it once the images are clear.

Viv.Engineer - Thank You !! Something to get our minds into.

@BigDave, yea I was thinking the gold thing on top of the cathedral place was some form of energy weapon as well

After all, David said he found the alien egg with face hugger in it, I assume, on the planet itself (Unless it was in the crashed docking station?)

So the engineers must have had some failsafe device if an epidemic of some form got out

Perhaps the inside of the cathedral was immune to the effects of the energy weapon, shielded if you will, like shielding against EM damage

@Kethol

Your straw man argument is that the "Black Goo", its presentation within the story is entirely clear and that all the evidence is there for the taking.

I fundamentally disagree with this assertion and the three points I made are not about the science of the "Black Goo" but about its application within the story which impacts on what it is and why and how was it created. I do not accept your analysis that there are four types of "Black Goo" there are three outcomes which are different and they follow from the experiments on LV223 but we still have no definitive answer as to the meaning of the sacrificial acolyte and the ingestion of the material offered to him to by the occupants of the tear drop ship. One has to assume this is a catalyser for bringing life in its general sense to a planet which is carried with in the DNA of the Engineer and the creator off the film has suggested that it could be earth but is not necessarily so, this a catalyser which creates and stimulates species such as mankind and as we share the same DNA as the Engineer it is the creative spark of mankind NOT the Xeno mutagen of LV223 which clearly represents a failure. It destroyed the Engineers of LV 223 and was used by David to wipe out the Engineers of Paradise who were expecting the return of something which was sympathetic and part of their positive creative rituals which are hinted at in the headroom.

Whilst it sounds I am trying to jump on you with the latest news, if you listen to the Alan Dean Foster interview on the 51st pod cast on AVP he makes several telling points one of which answers my question on his website:-

1) He consciously has made no decision to define the "Black Goo" beyond what is in the films and his description in Chapter 14 is actually the description one would apply to the creature introduced in 1979. Over and over I talk about the A L I E N as unsympathetic reproduction for its own sake with no other purpose and thats all that Alan says. He does not make the "Black Goo" any clearer than what we know by interpretation, such as it only infects non botanical life forms, and at the end of the Pod Cast he says his ultimate wish would be to write a novel which explains why the Engineers created the Xenomorph, the central question in all this, which he clearly considers unanswered.

2) He also answers the question about whether David created the lifecycle and the Alien. His answer is he might have done and so might the Engineers he leaves it ambiguous and that is how I viewed the movie and read the book David was dissembling through out his exchanges and this can be interpreted as another one. So the author of the book is saying it is an ambiguity within the legend.

My reason for being direct with you is you view people who find all of this confusing as simply not paying attention. These movies are made for global audiences from many different cultures and different language bases something like the Alien Pathogen should have a clear set of rules within the imagined world in which it is set and communicate itself within a consistent and coherent way. You offer well written examples of outcomes but some of what you say I do not agree with and some of what you sight as fact even the creators of the movies and films do not.

You are entitled to your opinion and make as ADF says one of 2,000,000 fans suggestions but they are merely your received observations which are interpretations of matters which are not definitive.

On a separate point with the news that the Engineers will return to Paradise not only might they find Walter or his constituent parts but they might find the Cave full of Ovemorph's that sets up all kinds of further possibilities and dare I say ambiguities that can be played out in the third film, which comes first the David the Engineer or the Egg.

This is really interesting. Thank you. To read those letters is almost like battle with famous Voynich manuscript. And while I am mentioning that mysterious book - have you ever noticed some striking similarities in the presentations of "creations" in the illustrations in the book, containing "worlds" of humans, plants, planets etc. with some stuff from Prometheus and A:C!?It seems to me that especially David's drawings have strong connections with this source.

Flute scene with David and Walter is my favourite by far. That camera rolling and lights, with David's drawings on the walls behind - well that's pure Blade Runner indeed!

I am not inclined to think about the connection between black goo and blue solvent. Pretty much sure that Ridley Scott and all around him didn't use AVP:R as reference for any aspects of mythology creation present in Prometheus.

Writing and Re-writing was pretty much normal in the early phase of Ridley's career. To stick with same themes and even names in different "surroundings" - it's almost common. Lot of artists are doing similar things.

I'm fairly sure that the pathogen has an extraterrestrial origin and isn't related to any of those terrestrial elements.

Yrp I think it is fairly obvious the Engineers 'grow' their technology (except the ones on Paradise/P4, which seem to be a different Engineer civilization).

I would be OK with Covenant and Prometheus sharing canon with Blade Runner but not the originals. We're going to end up with another AVP situation probably.

IndyFrontAlien: Covenant ForumCould Neomorphs have existed previously? If so...

Great post! Yeah, Planet 4 never had the vibe that it had been affected by the pathogen prior to Covenant. And while I really hope you are right about the pathogen remaining a mystery, it would be nice to get some clarification in Awakening as to whether it simply ignores botanical life unless it comes across its path, or if it is incompatible completely. Indeed, the motes appear to be mutated fungi. Ergo, David's Protomorph seems to be an artificially-induced evolution (judging by some of his notes on the schematics in his laboratory) of that mutated fungal-virus organism. And although we have a different interpretation, the Neomorphs seemed to be the intended evolution/mutation of the pathogen, as if it were the macroscopic stage/form of it.

@ K-Theory,

The Predators society being hunting based could very well lead to them becoming a space faring race. The biggest technological advances on Earth have been developed for and used in the theater of war. And with the Predators also being a clan based society the likelihood of such clans coming to blows over hunting territory, honor and position within their society could very well escalate into war - wars have started over less. So a hunting society being a space faring race sounds entirely viable to me.

Nonsense. Why would you assume a whole society revolves around hunting? I don't care what the comics say. For a spacefaring society to be possible, they must be science oriented. In a time far from now, we might have companies that offer hunting trips to different planets. That doesn't mean the whole of humanity is stuck in the stone ages.
