dkAlien: Covenant ForumAgainst my own advice: Say something positive about........... AVPR

joylitt & Barf The Mog

- Brothers and Sisters (as applicable), it seems difficult not to hate on something that created so much anticipation- and I am still waiting for the pre ordered blu ray to watch for the fist time! I am confident I will find some hate too, but it can't possibly be worse than AVPR- I cannot accept that lol!

The name of our android, David, can't be lost on us...is this potential showdown a retelling of the David/Goliath allegory?

"but damn do I need an explanation for the Lope facehugger!"

I know what you mean. I'm still waiting for an explanation why the one in Alien died after it deposited its seed in Kane. :P

NOT

You don't have to look for the answers. They are right there in the movies.

David explained everything very plainly in Covenant. I thought his dialogue was very well written.

The other two versions of the pathogen we see in Prometheus are easy to figure out just by looking at what they do.

I suppose Ridley Scott wants to keep us busy looking for answers, passes briefly with the camera over impressive sets dimly lit so with every watching of the movie you can focus on something else, something you know you missed previously. He should have the best script writers, to match his cinematography and directing.

Lot of eggs indeed as that ship was on a mission. Honestly I don't see the Engineers grabbing the eggs from a queen as I don't see a queen laying eggs for Engineers. They were rather biological weapons and if the shape resembles that of an egg is to hint at the beginning of the alien life cycles. I don't see the aliens as a civilization but something created to destroy civilizations. I might be wrong but I don't think Ridley Scott will ever use a queen in his movies. I know the original script of Alien presented the xenos as a dying civilization, the eggs should have been found inside I pyramid but due to the limited budget they had to adapt and since then they steered away from that idea. Anyway the next movie will be great, the gaps are filling in, they should put a lot of money into it to match Ridley Scott visions.

We also have this from the Weyland website. It's sort of a preliminary report from initial transmissions sent back by the Prometheus, presumably by David. It contradicts the movie in places, so it's not really canonical, but it provides some info.

I was never a fan of the alien queen - the concept I mean, not Cameron's cool-as-hell design - but the queen could just be another variant on the egg creation. There are still a few years between Covenant and Alien, and there were a LOT of eggs in that cargo hold. They don't all necessarily need to be the same type.

I don't think anything in Covenant negated the alien variants in the later movies. It kind of opens the door to explain all of them.

"In case you are wondering. I had nothing to do with it. It lies as I found it. A supreme example of the Engineers skill, and also I suppose, of their hubris. Would that I could create something so perfect in its function," he added. "I try, but I don't have thousands of years of practice at biological and genetic engineering. I have only my pitiable programming upon which to draw."

That makes sense, the Engineers created the eggs. I guess this rules out the alien queen.  You made my day. Thanks a lot Kethol for your posts.

The practical effects were fantastic and Wolf was a fun predator.

Probably the most positive aspect of it, however, was Brian Tyler. How he consistently finds the inspiration to compose truly great music for the absolute worst movies is a real gift.

Yes, they are great.

dk, yes, the last two images are in the Star Wars Universe, a crashed Republic Cruiser (Phantom Menace), and a war scene with walkers: advanced imperial walkers, at-at from ESB, and walkers from Episode VI. If you jump to his gallery, you can read his sentences about the SW images as well.

'Down the road' might be 'just around the bend' given how fast tech develops. The higher a tech level of a civilization becomes, the faster it achieves new developments and progress.

But for right now, it gives me some great ideas and nicely helps me solve some issues with some literary creations of mine. :)

TY again for posting this!

Right now, I'm working on five of the crew entering the building the Prometheus crew visited, and since the Prometheus expedition, things have changed quite a bit.

With ALIEN: Manticore now past the 85 thousand word mark, I still have a lot of room left to play with, and I'm not gonna cheat the audience on details or such.
I'll let FOX handle that end of things. :D

Anyone who thinks Hammerpedes are 'relatively harmless' is in for a surprise. ;)

We see that the Lope facehugger closes its legs and dies next to the wall after the action. It shows that it has done its job. Full stop. :)

joylitt I'm glad you're not in charge lol If there was anything wrong with Covenant, it wasn't the story or Fassbender. Mainly the complaints seem to be leveled at the Covenant crew and a needed explanation of the life cycle of the Protomorph. I'm not frazzled by the Covenant crew because they were not expecting what had happened and a lot of civilians make dumb decisions in the heat of the moment but damn do I need an explanation for the Lope facehugger! Hopefully Awakening gives us the answers we need or the Covenant Blu-ray/DVD commentary lol

"I'm guessing the Covenant is pretty slow(conserving power and all)"

Hey, that's a pretty good point... their recharge sails got damaged by the particle storm. Is that going to slow down/cripple the ship in some way?

I know changing direction again might seem sketchy. But the damage is done. Covenant will probably be the "Terminator Salvation" of the franchise, something that the studios would gladly brush under the rug. So they need to study very well the next move if they don't want to get a "Genisys" next. The good thing is that only half of the people who watched Prometheus has watched Covenant, and many among those did not like the direction it has taken. So I guess the studios will shake things up a little bit for the next installment.

At this stage looking forward, it is interesting to imagine marrying AI with the biomechanical developments way down the road.

I'm gonna have to strongly agree with Lawrence of Arabia here, David is the most interesting character right now. They really need to keep him. ...Maybe even Walter, too!

If one of those survey people calls me, I'll definitely give Fassbender my vote :P

Fassbender just needs to keep up his health and eat a healthy diet full of antioxidants or whatever, so he wont age too much and can continue being a believable android. Especially if production is going to keep taking so long between release dates...

joylitt You do know that Alien:Covenant isn't a reboot or replacing Alien (1979) right? I get your point but they aren't casting Fassbender as Ripley, even though that would be hilarious.

Lawrence of Arabia It's not my logic. It is the business industry logic. Let me put it this way: imagine Roy Batty as the protagonist in Blade Runner. Even though he is awesome, the movie would not have been the same. Same here.

Gonna have a LOT of thinking to do regarding the follow-up to ALIEN: Manticore. Timeline issues for me state that Manticore could well arrive at 'Paradise' in time to encounter some seriously aggrieved Engineers, and I'm not sure how to handle that.

LOTS of thinking to do...

joylitt Your logic doesn't make much sense either, because he isn't well-known he isn't right to carry the franchise? Wasn't Sigourney an unknown before Alien?

Reply
joylittAlien: Covenant ForumA:C sequel: when?

Lawrence of Arabia Yes exactly, he was universally praised. But if you conduct a survey that is the wrong question to ask.   They made that mistake once, they won't do it again. I bet that is why Noomi Rapace did not come back for Covenant.

Why does he need to be pushed to the side? His story is vital to the franchise. Some people may not like how his story changes the mythos pre-Prometheus but I think it enriches it.

With where things are going with ALIEN: Manticore, heh folks will be having nightmares about Hammerpedes. Took me a while to build up a zoological profile based off how little info there really is, but pulled it off.

TY for sharing!! That was really cool!! It's even kinda cute for a prototype, but the swimming/propulsive motions I noticed is very smooth, they did a good piece of work with it.

Wasn't Fassbender unanimously praised for his dual roles in both Prometheus and Covenant? Even those who didn't particularly like the film thought Fassbender did wonderful. Considering Ridley likes Fassbender/David, I don't see him taking him out as the lead considering he literally said he was the Ripley for the prequel films. I agree with @cuponator3000 in that it will create inconsistencies and will show that they're making it up as they go as opposed to the plan already set in motion.
