I was confused about that part in the book as well. I mean...he seemed to really despise humans...

(despite the fact the he quotes human poets ALL THE TIME and is way into Lawrence of Arabia...also human)

I thought...maybe he's calling the Weyland company to GLOAT about having gained control over one of their ships.

I mean, he's light years away and it's not like there's really anything they can do about it. Perhaps he just wanted to brag about how the Weyland creation has outwitted its creator.

Thank you, Godzilla: King of the Monsters !!!

And, I am enjoying YOUR work, on your Alien: Infernum story!

Truthfully...I am nervous to post another story because I'm afraid people will have high expectations and won't like it as well as this one.

...But...ok, you and I will have to make a pact.

YOU keep up your good work on Alien: Infernum and I'll keep up my efforts and submit another story as well. :)

Really enjoying reading this! I can really relate to Johnson because I walk around talking to myself and to inanimate objects that same way, lol.

I love how ominous and foreboding your setting feels. Johnson was smart not to get close to the facehugger plant/egg! ...But I wonder if it's already too late for him, I wonder if he already got infected by those spores.

Very suspenseful! Looking forward to your updates!!

I love it! I actually felt like I was suffocating while reading this!

(0_o I think I kept inadvertently holding my breath while he while he was looking for his helmet, lol!)

I have a feeling that his loneliness is going to be the least of his problems very soon! Eager to read the next part!

(You should put a link to part 2 on here, so people can easily find it after reading part 1! :D )

No need to define a solar flare and CME to me. Trust me, this is stuff I know very well. Look up what I said about them.

As I have said, the three types of terminology used to describe the event and what they show the event do in the movie is complete bunk. The writer came up with a plot point and needed some sciency sounding terminology to describe what happened, so he found something that sort of fit the bill. It's the same stuff they do in all the alien movies. It's sci-fi, so it does not have to be real, just sound real-ish.

Once you have seen Covenant again you will find the dialogue I posted is exactly what is in the movie, so I'll pass on a further reply until then. You will find the word "solar" was not used.

@ BigDave Why did they use a discoidal ship in the sacrificial engineer scene? Is it possible that those engineers belong to a different civilization? Where they the gods/good engineers and the ones from LV_223 the fallen angels? Was there a rebellion on LV_223 and the bad engineers took control of the black goo ampoules. Even the engineers who were running in the hologram seemed different than the one found alive, I mean the severed head they found looked more like the sacrificial engineers to me. I wonder which ships will be used by engineers when they'll return to Paradise.

amandas story ark would follow generally the same path as rippleys. the first movie(alien isolation) it is her first encounter and it is essentially a dark slasher in space movie.

the second one(alien revolutions) would be closer to an action movie, is were she would meet all the likable character and it would end somewhat happily.

finnaly the third(alien annihilation) is were all of that goes to hell, all of here friends die, and she sacrifises herself exept the sacrifice is in reversal. ripley died killing here baby while amanda dies saving it.

Also, let me just add quickly to my painfully long post, in the novel (p.40-41), the event which caused damage to the Covenant ship is described by Walter as "charged particle flares".  I don't think it is described anywhere else that I remember.  The movie describes the event as a neutrino burst and as a solar flare from what I remember.

Point #1

I just got to Chapter 17 in the novel, so I am not finished, but the beginning of Chapter 14 when the crew is talking to David is riddled with suspicion.  In the novel as well, David leads two security crew members to a high place to try and contact the Covenant.  David says he is leaving to check on the others while they try to communicate with the Covenant.  Instead, he goes to cut his hair so he can look exactly like Walter.  The book even says he looks exactly like Walter.  He lied and we all know he switched places with Walter.  After watching what David did in Prometheus (killed Holloway by experimenting with the black goo and touched whatever he wanted so the mission happened they way he and Weyland wanted it regardless of the scientists well-being), I would assume most people would be a little confused if they could trust David.  After watching the end of Covenant, I don't see how anyone could trust David.  The personality and actions of David and his interest in the black goo and the creatures which can come from it, I think, can lead to the conclusion that David is a liar and has motives which he thinks are important enough for him to live out forever trying to achieve the goals.  Also, there is no telling how long David has been waiting to confront the Covenant crew for the first time.  He only came at a time where he had too.  David was watching the crew for a long time.

One thing that caught my attention in the novel (p.190) was that David knew the crew saw the crash.  I don't remember them telling David they did, so how would he know? (This last comment I am not defending because I guess I could've forgotten this part).  Also, when Walter explored the engineer city by himself, he apparently came across Shaw's room (p.203).  Why would Shaw have a room when she died in the crash? (I am not defending this either for the same reasons as the other above).  What do you think on these parts?

Point #2

A Solar Flare and a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) are two completely different stellar events.

A solar flare are explosions which form from twisting high magnetic fields crossing and reconnecting.  This creates exploding energy pushing outward from our Sun.  They release harmful energized particles which can damage electronics.

A coronal mass ejection are a similar event as solar flares, but the magnetic field lines become so warped that, like rubber bands under tension, they snap and break, then reconnect at other points.  The gaps that form no longer hold the sun's plasma from its surface.  Freed, the plasma explodes into space as a CME.  They also release charged particles.

The only reason I am defending the fact that a solar flare could affect space equipment is because in the movie, it is stated that it was a solar flare (at least that is how I remember it and apparently that his how BigDave remembers it.  BigDave seems very knowledgeable about the Alien universe, so I trust him on his thought that it was a solar flare in the movie).  If it was a solar flare and the Covenant wasn't near the star which released it, than there would be no way it could affect the Covenant, but the crew states that it was a solar flare.  So, they must have been near enough to the star to be affected by it.  I don't know what kind of star it is the Covenant is nearby, but maybe it releases bigger solar flares than our own Sun?  Our sun's stellar activity can only be used as an example of trying to explain a star we know nothing about.  Yes, they are both stars, so they should do similar things, but the star the Covenant is near could be anything Hollywood dreams up and Hollywood dreamed up a massive solar flare.

Point #3

Okay, so I brought BigDave in on this because I don't have the liberty to watch the movie again, but he even thinks it is a large scale solar flare which caused damage to the Covenant ship.  Before I quoted BidDave, you said there was no mention of the word solar flare even in the movie and I remember the word being mentioned.  So, maybe with the part where the crew asked David what he has been doing here, you missed or forgot?

Also, I don't remember David saying "Mother" in a reply to David.  I am not saying he didn't, but I am not going to say he didn't since it has been since May 19th since I watched the Alien: Covenant.

This discussion just may get me off of my cheap butt and buy another ticket to watch this movie!!!!

I'll keep adding info to this thread as I read the novel.  I haven't gotten to the part where Walter starts to see through David's lies.

I had never really thought about it. perhaps it was a bit like the opening scene in prometheous were the engineer drinks the black goo and then dissolves exept maybe he did it in a controled way so that it would take over him slowly. or it could be one of the airborn spores fron AC. Or maybe david implanted it within him surgically somehow.

@Nathan Adler

Indeed its something to consider as far as the Engineers did not create Mankind.... it then raises a lot of Questions as to what the Sacrificial Scene means...  this could lead to Humanoid like Race which then Proves to be a Earlier Generation of Mankind and so Humans come from a Hybrid Race created by the Engineers... this fits with what a Source told me that Prometheus 2 was touching on.

But i think that whole quote is a misquote as i put in another Topic when we look at the over all context of what AC shows.. then i think the MADE is meant to be KILL

RS had said prior to AC well after he announced it...  but prior to Shooting (November 2015) That if the Engineers are the Forerunners to Mankind, then we have to ask what created Worlds to be Habitable to be able to support life... Where is the Big Guy (GOD)

But as this qoute is what RS had said, maybe he mixed his words up or not... it can be used to open up debates.

And disusing the whole Engineer Culture/History and Purpose is something i have studied and covered in Depth over 5 years and also the Black Goo too..

so i have a lot to add to this Topic and it will be a welcome to read other peoples interpretations even though some are different i think many of us are in and around the same Ball-Park ;)

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumIn light of Ridleys comments about the return of the Engineers

This is a nice thread that i can indeed put a lot of Cents into and more than just TWO.

First at the OT and indeed EWATYAMORPH you are not alone in your interpretation of Paradise, its a point i had wondered even prior to a sequel being made... and certainly when AC was announced and Set Photos came out and then right to seeing AC i was drawn to the same.

I have covered in a number of Topics over the last few months, but yes this Place seems like the Cradle of Humanoid civilization or at least was a attempt to Re-create a Humanoid Civilization.

I can go into great detail but i have done to many times and i am a bit tired so i would be adding more, but in a nutshell, such a theory as this Place (Paradise) is where the Hierarchy collect Sacrifices from to use to Seed Worlds is a theory that i do hold very possible..  It fits with Paradise as far as the Biblical One, it fits with how these beings on Paradise have no real Technology apart from One Scorpion Ship Watching over this City and a Hanger..

The Hanger is important and as i had mentioned a while ago and few times well a lot lol since... the Hanger has Statues that are like the Buddha Offering Statues.

And so yes, i too thought this fitted with this Place (Paradise) was the place they chosen their Sacrifices from.

A big Problem is WHY?  and so why create life... why seed Worlds when these beings could Procreate? Well they have Females... so why not?

Well Spaights had said regarding the Engineers that they could Procreate at one point but they had evolved themselves past the need for this and lost this ability and so in order to Create Life / Pass on their Genetics.. they had to come up with Alternative methods... Hence Sacrificial Scene.

But we see Females in AC, but these beings also are similar height to Humans for the most part and they also do not look like the Engineers... some do.. most do-not... they look like a Hybrid Race or a Missing Link that connects Engineers to Mankind.

RS confirmed they are Engineers, but then he said the Engineers are not a RACE but a Civilization... which can only mean a Culture of Humanoid Races... he also mentioned regarding the Engineers how there are many different versions of Humans and so why cant they be different versions of them...

Still makes no Sense to Sacrifice if they have Females.. unless its because they just Do/Can... RS had said regarding the Sacrificial Scene that its not the only way they create Life but its the way they Choose to do so.

Maybe thats right... but the deleted Elders Scene did have some Dialog and only One Line has even been released.

"Let your body become the dirt! Your blood become the waters. May your soul become their way back to us"

so there was a very Good Reason for the Sacrificial Scene.

Now as RS said that Scene does not have to be Earth, it could any other place and so this has happened on Many worlds..  But maybe we can assume Originally it happened on Paradise?

If the Engineers Evolved themselves so they lost Females.. this would explain the interest in Dr Shaw... and indeed fits with the Das Reingold Opera...   The Engineers may have lost Females..

So the Sacrificial Scene is a attempt to bring back Females as the other method was maybe clone themselves but they just get a copy of copy etc....

The Engineers had then managed to create Females by this method and brought some back to Paradise to Breed with Genesis 6:4

"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them"

so then we have Hybrids, Humanoid + Engineer which then we would get if a Humanoid/Engineer Female mated with a Engineer we would then get a 2/3rd Humanoid and a 3rd Engineer Hybrid... if instead these Hybrids breed with Each Other then they would become closer to Human...

So i think various interbreeding then happened and this explains the different looking Folk on Paradise.. who are not a Single Race but a Civilization.

Thanks! This was my first ever Aliens story. I have one more Covenant story in the works (it doesn't involve David nor Shaw though...and it's still just in my mind, not typed or written yet...).

I usually write each story under a different name because I don't want people to feel disappointed if a new story I write is not as good as a previous story I've written.

But, maybe I'll post my next story from this same screen name depending on how I feel about it once it's finished.

I would be thinking this was more Davids liking and he packed one of these when he thought he would be stranded on Paradise as in Paradise Island and so i think David was disappointed that Paradise was not what he was expecting so he Bombed the Engineers.

I feel this deserves a comment, for effort in linking it.

Indeed i have seen this before its a nice attempt and pretty much shows what Prometheus does..  and it was a speculative approach to how it connects to Alien and the Queen.

I was always inclined to think the Xenomorph was a Ancient Event and one that most likely either was related to the Experiments conducted on a related Life-Form that when they was pleased with the results they Seeded its DNA via Sacrificial Goo to make the Black Goo.

Or that the Xenomorph was the result of a Black Goo Outbreak and Hammerpede Infection...

The Queen i felt was the logical result of a Egg Morph.

@Kethol indeed i can see what you mean.. by attempting to group them to subject...  a wonderful job ;)

I think my Order Comment was mainly just that in Chronological Order you can see how ideas have evolved over the years...  Seems RS had some Good ideas...  that he attempted to explore when he started to make his Prequel ideas... which started with Alien: Engineers, before evolving to Prometheus and these ideas are somewhat similar to the ideas he had Many Many years ago..

I think AC did kind of change this a bit... but his one comment about the 3-4 Parties which include the Engineers for the next movie does give us a lot of hope..

@Roger55

Oh as far as Origae-6 i think its unlikely to be LV-426, all clues had pointed to LV-426 being in the same System as LV-223 but again this is something RS Can change as there is no Direct Answer in the Movies... only the Viral Marketing etc for Prometheus.

However both Moons are in the same Zeta 2 System which is a Binary One... and with LV-223 taking the Prometheus 2 years, and latter LV-426 would take the Nostromo 10 Months (could be faster than Prometheus) i would think with Origae-6 being at least 7 more years away before David and the Crew of Remaining Colonist Arrive would put Origae-6 as being much further away than LV-426

But we dont know how Fast the Covenant Travels...

Its kind of Canon to now assume LV-426/223 are about 39.7LY away.

If the Covenant is as fast the the Prometheus Mission traveled then another 7 years would put Origae-6 at about 140LY away from Present location (Paradise) but we dont know how long the  Covenant has been traveling i would say at least 18 months due to Re-charge Sail Cycle.. and up to 5 years (W-Y Merger).

If the Covenant is as fast as the Nostromo then in 7 years it would travel nearly 330 Light years.  But again we dont know how fast the Covenant is... But i would think its 7 year mission is not to LV-426...

"The prose is a bit dense and sometimes confusing..."

*Momentarily looks at you the way David looked at Oram after Oram attacked David's precious, disturbing creation* >_>

Lol...oh dear, I actually had feared as much. I tried to clean it up and file it down but this is where I finally wound up. It's a little more succinct than what I started with... I also shoe-horned in a Nietzsche quote, but maybe that was just cumbersome.

I guess I just hoped that a pretentious narcissist like David would be able to pull off dense, confusing prose and gratuitous Nietzsche quotes.

I'll try to take your feedback under advisement for future stories. I've got one more Alien: Covenant related story in the works right now (but I usually don't write under the same handle twice, because I don't want people to expect similarities between stories).

Also Kudos for the Effort, even though a lot could be copy and paste its still a nice effort to track down the Sources.

And you have Made a Topic thats longer than most of my replies LOL

I have a lot to say about some of those quotes and where the ideas could have gone... interesting is the One Prequel idea he had after doing Alien, because at the time he was thinking of TWO different Sequels and one was to cover the Origins.. the other was more a direct sequel.

But regarding the one you had put in your topic, its interesting one to say the least..  "The Alien may be one of the last descendants of some long-lost self-destructed group of beings…in many respects it’ll be more interesting [than the first movie], from a pure science-fiction stand point. We’d get into speculative areas, deal with two civilizations"

I had not came across this one, until not so long ago... after Alien Covenant Trailers....

Its interesting as it kind of could fit with the ideas i was pondering for my Prometheus 2 as far as one of potentially 3 Plots for the whole Agenda of the Engineers... but these 3 different takes all kind of interacted and connected a bit.. but each was different a bit and i just could not figure which way to go so i abandoned my Prometheus 2 because most of the Plot was worked out apart from the whole Engineer History.

But the one key theme kept coming back to HR Gigers Work and Vision.

We can clearly see HR Gigers Mural is very close to the Engineer Space Jockey suits in PROMETHEUS... also the Face Hugger Concept works show Bald Humanoids who have suits that are like those LV-223 Engineers (Last Engineer).

It shows a U-Shaped Xeno-like Structure that produced a Egg, via what looks like Worms...  we could say this shows the Derelict and so its Genetically connected to the Xenomorph and a living Organism so to speak...

HR Giger had a idea for the Egg Silo that would have sections that each had a Pregnant Belly like Bio-Mechanical Device that would Produce the Eggs... above each of these would be the HR Giger Mural..... which i have shown with the Arrows.

So the Derelict is a living Bio-Mechanical ship that Produces the Eggs from Worms....  then this Humanoid Race Sacrifice themselves for this Purpose.

WHY?

And did this Humanoid Race Create the Derelict Ship in this Mural that Produces the Eggs..?

Or did the Race who created the Derelict Create or Enslave those beings who are Sacrificing themselves.

I think this posed a interesting Question which i was attempting to answer, but then it was trying to figure which way around would this Answer be?

When i look at the quote from RS that the OT had put, then indeed this can kind of fit in with the idea i had.. and relevant to the set of images i posted above.
