Apparently, plot continuity isn't that important for the Alien franchise according to FX's president Gina Balian. During a recent interview with Variety, she explained how the Alien: Earth series will be ignoring aspects of the plot elements introduced in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. In terms of continuity, Variety reports the Alien series exists in parallel to the film franchise...
“Alien: Earth” is a brave new world indeed: It abandons plot elements introduced in Scott’s prequels and exists in parallel to the film franchise. “Everything doesn’t have to fit together the way you expect from Marvel,” FX Entertainment president Gina Balian says. “Fans don’t expect that in this universe. It doesn’t have the same pressure.” – (via Variety)
Awfully presumptuous to assume Alien fans don't care about continuity. This also adds a tremendous amount of confusion when compared to previous statements made by Noah Hawley who had expressed interest in laying foundation in later seasons of Alien: Earth which eventually lead to LV-426 and the crashed Derelict.
As it stands, the Alien: Earth series takes place in the year 2120 – 2 years before the events of the first Alien film (2122) and 30 years after the events of Prometheus (2090). But does the year even matter now, given FX's statements?
What are your thoughts on these remarks? Do you think continuity is important for the Alien franchise? Or should the series and films reside in their own parallel timelines? Let us know in the comments below!
