Prometheus 2 is still in development. Despite the lack of official news and updates, Ridley Scott, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and 20th Century Fox have all confirmed that the Prometheus sequel is on its way. However, like Prometheus' development back in 2011, much of the film's progress will be kept secret. Thanks to a contact at Fox Studios we learned way back in May of 2013 that Ridley had begun scouting for cast options for his Prometheus 2, but since then, not a whole lot of updates have come forth. We know there were over 15 drafts of the script completed before Scott finally decided on one - which means scripting had been going on for many months prior.
The fact remains that we don't really know a lot about Prometheus 2 and we likely won't for at least 5 more months. We did hear that Prometheus 2 is expected to begin production or at least principal photography late this year, sometime in August of 2015 is most likely; considering Fox has aimed for the Prometheus sequel to hit theaters by March of 2016. But again, until Fox makes an official announcement, such information should be taken lightly.
The reason I felt the need to write this article is because I fear many fans are being mislead by a few websites out there who are promoting false information for the soul purpose of click-baiting. If you don't know what that is - it's basically any shady means a web publisher may attempt to use in order to generate additional ad revenue by duping its readers into clicking on links with misleading headlines. Now - granted, it is on the editor to come up with attractive headlines which echo what the article is about, because after all, yes we do want your clicks and we want you to read our material, but there is a fine line between engaging readers and simply misleading them.
Since early 2010, when I launched Prometheus-Movie.com, I have always tried to bring fans like myself, accurate information on Prometheus' development. Yes, this did sometimes included rumors and yes, sometimes rumors turned out to be just that. However, when reporting speculative content, it's important to let readers know that we're not 100% sure of the information, and urge them to take what they read with a grain of salt.
This article is to inform unsuspecting fans of Prometheus that there are a few sites out there which have regularily popped up in news feeds and Google Alert emails, promoting completely false information about Prometheus 2 and it's throwing some of us off. The following are some of the "facts" they're promoting, which are completely untrue and are in no way supported by legitimate sources:
- Prometheus 2's plot line will tie in directly to Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5
- Prometheus 2's script will set in motion the events which will be the focus of Alien 5
- David will somehow have an intimate relationship with Shaw
- A script for Prometheus 2 has not even been completed yet
One of the sites promoting these "facts" also mentioned that Ridley Scott directed the first three Alien films... yeah.
It's evident some sites are trying to bank on the hype surrounding Neill Blomkamp's exciting foray into the iconic Alien franchise - but just because Ridley Scott is producing Alien 5 doesn't mean it will directly tie into Prometheus 2 and vise-versa. In fact, Prometheus 2 will only tie into Prometheus 3 and/or Scott's original Alien (if we're lucky). Considering the director has openly stated he plans to get away from the Xenomorph and focus on the Engineers, while Blomkamp's will be taking the Alien franchise back to its roots; it's ludicrous to assume they will have any bearing on eachother. The only similarity they share are the universe in which they are set.
As official updates or even likely rumors begin to surface, we'll be sure to keep you updated as we always have. But please be warry of the misleading headlines by some of these "news" blogs which have cropped up. I don't wish to link any of them because giving them any mention or backlinks will only aid their cause and distributing false information is not something we're trying to do. So keep an eye out and take what you read with a grain of salt; it's still very early to begin assuming major plot points for a film which hasn't even begun filming yet.
In the mean time however, feel free to join the ever-growing speculation on Prometheus 2 and even Alien 5 by taking part in the respective forums here on the Scified community network!
