The title for Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel is once again in question, following a statement made by director Ridley Scott at the recent AFI Film Festival, where he referred to Prometheus 2 not as the previously announced Alien: Paradise Lost, but as Alien: Covenant. Is this the new title for Prometheus 2? Or did Ridley Scott mistakingly just let the title for Neill Blomkamp's postponed Alien 5 slip? We're unsure, but until an official announcement is made, we're going to assume Prometheus 2 is still going to be called Alien: Paradise Lost.
Here's Ridley's official quote, as reported by Indie Wire (via AvPG) who were in attendance during the discussion:
“I was going to be doing what will be called ‘Alien: Covenant,’ which starts shooting next February, and we were struggling then with the screenplay there and then there was a phone call, somebody saying, ‘Listen, we’ve got this thing which is completely written called ‘Martian,’ and I said, ‘Huh.’ And I sped read it in an hour and by mid-afternoon, I talked to Fox and said, ‘I need to talk to ‘Drew [Goddard]…’”
It's possible that the title for the film has changed following John Logan's revisions of the script. However, until we hear more concrete information, the title will remain as Alien: Paradise Lost.
