Huge news this afternoon has surfaced as director Ridley Scott has confirmed the official title for Prometheus 2, the sequel to his 2012 sci-fi epic which begins filming this February! According to Scott himself, the official title for Prometheus 2 will be 'Alien: Paradise Lost'.
Speaking to HeyUGuys about his latest film, The Martian, Scott touches on both Prometheus 2 and Blade Runner 2, the first of which he will actually be directing. When asked about the Prometheus sequel Scott replies by saying:
"Well actually, it's really going to be called Alien: Paradise Lost. So Prometheus 2 isn't really going to be Prometheus 2, it's going to be Alien: Paradise Lost. You know the poem? I’m sure you’ve never been through it, the poem’s a book, ‘Paradise Lost.’ It sounds intellectual but there’s a similarity to it. That’s where it stops."
The poem Scott is referring to of course is the one referenced by young Shaw and her father during the early scene in which David spies on her dreams. The poem itself is about the fall of man.
Alien: Paradise Lost will explore the Engineer homeworld; where they came from, why they created us (if they created us) and what became of their civilization. As the title suggests, the planet will unlikely be a beautiful place as the word paradise insinuates; but rather a dark, ravaged world - one fans of the late H.R Giger will appreciate. Scott has mentioned in previous interviews that the classic Xenomorph will not be making an appearance, but rather a host of new, terrifying creatures - like the Deacon from the first Prometheus film.
