Please, nobody get mad at me if something like this has been posted. I was looking through a book of Giger's and found this picture, it was part of the proposal project Giger sent to Ridley Scott for Alien in 78. I am sure someone posted this image before but please take a look. It shows some beings surrounding an egg with a facehugger, they are not human and they clearly resemble the space jockey I believe. Then compare it to the other original image Giger did for the space jockey and compare the humanoids, it's uncanny , so many similarities , it must be them.... The Space Jockeys!!!! Thanks all for your time.

Hey Apollo, That makes sense. I have a question, though. Why would anyone get mad at you? Regards, Rick

Hey Apollo, I think that is an excellent…yet obvious observation. At least for “old school” ALIEN “nuts” like myself. I have believed that to be the case ever since I first saw that hieroglyphic-esque Giger painting in the “Book of ALIEN” back in ’79. However, that concept was being developed in the early stages of the film’s production, when the filmmakers were still tossing around the idea of an alien pyramid on the planet/oid. Since then, the ALIEN concept has gone in some different directions. It could be that Ridley Scott and Co. have decided to revisit some of those earlier “origin” concepts and ideas. That could be verrrry interesting. I’ve always been fascinated by that original storyline anyhow. And as I understand it, the filmmakers only deleted the pyramid sequence because of financial and film running time limitations. So, I totally agree with you. As far as other members potentially getting mad at you, I completely understand your concerns. Some of the members on this forum can sometimes behave like hostile organisms. I have experienced it myself. Unfortunately for them, their hostility is usually matched by their immaturity. At least the “Alien” was acting solely on instinct…and was probably only a few hours old.:-) Peace, Neurion

Yo Neurotic where you been hiding man I haven't seen you on here in a while? You must bee getting some lessons from the "bugs". Are you sure it was solely instinctual?

Hey Rick, Well I guess I just got kind of bored of a lot of the same ol’ questions and responses. Ya know? Folks bringing up, or churning up stuff that…in my opinion had already been put to rest…or something like that. Also, SOME smart assey, neo-fans talkin’ outta their whiney, alien orifices eventually becomes tiresome…even for an ol’ ALIEN addict, born in the “Summer of love,” Space-dog like Yours Truly. As far as “instinct” goes…who knows. Maybe the “Big Chap” has a lot more to IT than just instinct. After all, from what I read, Ridley Scott originally wanted the “Alien” to start speaking on the radio after decapitating our favorite warrant officer in first flick. One never knows… Neurion P.S. Good to hear from you Rick

So the first stage of the alien life cycle comes from the comic belly button of a really large biomorphically crucified egyptian God Alien pierced by a pyramid temple with an eye on top? Or maybe it works from the bottom where the word Alien is and that butt with the guts pull out under the sacrificed Jockey (Who are Pawns...Willing?) and that creepy thing by the body to the left that might be another alien. What I really think is interesting is the cryptic alien writing that looks like squiggly worms surrounding a prism of Giger Tubes. Magically delicious death metal hellfire paradise! especially that hit of Lsd that looks like Neurions pick it is was shall be.

Hello fellow ALIEN enthusiasts, I hope this is an appropriate forum in which to pose this question. This question has “stuck in my craw” for a long time. Near the end of the original ALIEN film, Ripley is climbing into the shuttle craft ‘Narcissus’ from the ‘Nostromo.’ She’s carrying Jones in the cat box and a flamethrower. She chucks the cat box into the shuttle and before she closes the hatch, she turns to fire a few bursts from her flamethrower…back into the ‘Nostromo,’ presumably to hold off the Alien. Just before she closes the hatch, it appears that there are a few bursts of flame emitting from the ‘Nostromo’…toward Ripley. The bursts of flame continue, and are visible through hatch/port window after the hatch is closed. Does anybody else notice this?…I assume so. It “bugs” me every time…and that’s a lot of times (probably too many). So, I guess my questions are: Is this a “no brainer”…just a botched flamethrower special effect? Was it intentional? Is it just supposed to be a normal part of the ‘Nostromo’s’ self destruct sequence? OR am I just “seeing things?” I’m interested in your input. Peace, Neurion

Ahhhh…It’s nice to be back to "The Adventures of Neurion in Acheronland"…where logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead. And Ruhaniya is talking backwards…and the Dread Queen’s “off with her head!” PROMETHEUS: “Eat me…drink me…” GREAT EAGLE: “magically delicious…in need” NEURION: "Six feet is a very good height indeed!" ...and now on to "PROMETHEUS" and what's left of these "happy summer days."

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph09/11/2011
Oh crap Neurion I hope your not reading what i say backwards...i tried that once but ended up in the hospital like that Mayan astronaut who smoke some salvia divanorum and saw the hands Sheva stacking flames into a pit pyramid and when it got to the last one it was the end of summer. (Endless Prometheus Rave Techno begins...while strapped into your space jockey chair and space drugs are pumped into your brain)

Well Ruhaniya, I do have to read it backwards sometimes. And I’m not much of an herb guy…I’m a Bushmills Black Bush Irish Whiskey man myself. Of course, I wouldn’t mind givin’ that Weylan Yutani Aspen Beer onboard the Nostromo a shot. I usually don’t drink domestics, but I could make an exception. Besides, I don’t believe in Mayan or Mesoamerican superstition any way. Oh well, if I’m wrong none of us will be around after December 21, 2012 to debate it anyhow. Peace, Neurion

Oh Ruhaniya, I've got question for you. is your handle "Ruhaniya" because your parents named you that...or because you have a penchant for White Magic and the like?

Ruhaniya

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph09/11/2011
Not my name because I'm not in plural arabic but if your girlfriends constellation crotch smells like a Taco thats O.K. if your mexican. If everyone just stopped drinking alchohol and turned it into fuel and grew hemp and turned it into fuel and took all our shit and turned it into fuel we could get off the grid. Cause the kings do not give pearls to swines and monkeys. When they build that super computer in 2012 maybe it's got something to say about it. I lived with a white wizard for many years and he liked that Irish Whiskey too but only when fishing with a shotgun. You know..."For close encounters". I like the near beer Holsten 0.0 % for the love of real beer taste. It's too bad they don't have a Guinness version with a widget.

Neurion

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph09/11/2011
@Ruhaniya, As a matter of fate, I’m not Mexican…but I do like SOME constellations, some crotches, and some tacos. Was the white wizard you lived with ex-vice Dick Cheney? You may not be in plural Arabic, but you do seem spiritual. And for all I know, you could’ve had a feminine Arabic name. It is…is it not? I actually prefer A&W over near beer…it has a frosty mug taste and less aftertaste. I like Guinness very much. Tastes great…more filling…and can be substituted with a delicate mixture of black coffee, gasoline, and just a hint of dark matter…and a widget. Do you think Aliens dream of electric sheep? N P.S. How is you health lately?

Hmmm, let me get that bluray out and watch that exiting Nostromo sequence. I always thought that if Ripley had disabled the cooling systems for multiple fusion reactors that steam would have to be purged at choke points along the conduits, but actual flames always did confound me. Unless of course she had ignited some sort of gas that is vented into the interior of the ship during the final stages of this Auto Destruct Sequence in order to facilitate the total obliteration of said vessel, she was cutting things a bit close there.

@ Neurion The wizard is 1/2 Native and looks like Saruman from TLOR. He is a Shaman of the womens healing arts of southern California. How that happened? He must like Tacos too! He used to work for the Mob in Montreal and before that was in Vietnam and ended up in the opium trade after the war...so almost Dick Chain Slinky. As for Ruhaniya being a feminine Arabic name I will have to look into that but as far as I know angelic spirits don't have sexes but regularly appear in the Nordic male form. Yes, Aliens dream of vibrating electric sheep and often abduct them. Baadddddddd! Thanks for the concern about my health. I will send you some Lucky Charms cause they are magically delicious! The truth is: If you find the end of the rainbow and all there is, is a dirty ashole and no gold, just take the pot and I have been feeling like that Large alien in Gigers painting. If I didn't have dialysis waiting for me and Tylenol...I won't be seeing Prometheus. oh ya it is masculine Arabic name. I am really wondering about that thing on the left hand side....if it is the teenage sized spawn from the Jockey or something else.....uhmmm? I love black coffee and gasoline! Anti-matter widget on the dance floor! Thems some wicked beats! I Love some tacos too! I would love to have a haram of tacos all mexican ones, You see the more hot peppers you eat, the more tacos you want to eat! Feminine! buritos will give you the runs. Now, Grasshoppers cybernetic backwards read has can You Cheers!

@Ghost Solitare It just always seemed a bit lame to me…that “Mother”/Nostromo’s programming would vent “deadly” flame at the exact point in the ship that the crew would have to pass through during an evacuation. Come to think of it…why would ship engineers design a shuttle that couldn’t possibly facilitate the entire crew…only seven members in this case. Man…this is Titanic all over again. Obviously, the minimal capacity was written in to facilitate maximum scene intensity. Personally, I think it was just a bad on-set, practical pyrotechnic effect. I think those flames are supposed to be coming Ripley’s Flame unit…and the effects timing was off. So, I think I’m just looking for some cinematic sci-fi justification…so I can watch the scene with greater ease. Not much we can do about the bogus jerkiness of Ashes decapitated head “jump cut” shot. Why didn’t Ridley Scott fix that during the re-editing of the so called “Directors Cut?” All it needed was one short insert shot. Or they could’ve digitally cheated the foreground Ripley a little more into the frame…to cover the head switch. Ughhh! N

Okay, so I spent the last evening scouring over Alien and the 03 Directors cut. Neurion you are right. The flames blasting out of the corridor and across the chamber leading to the Narcissus look absolutely ridiculous, they were more than adequete to have crisped any of the crew that would be exiting the ship. Though in the Blueray the switch between the latex Ash head and the real Ash head was much better. I do have a different question though. Considering that it takes more than five seconds for the shuttle to exit the Launch bay after igniting it's engines don't you think that bay is attached to the refinery platform rather than the Nostromo. I've always thought that it was just too enormous. Even in the extensive information on the web. Modified Lockmart CM-88B Bison Transport,LENGTH – 243.8 m (800’) WIDTH – 164.6 m (540’) HEIGHT – 72.05 m (246.4’) Obviously more research is required by me. The quest is often more interesting than the actual find. Let's see what I can find....

MemberOvomorph09/13/2011
I found this, so I guess that answers my question, :( Like I said sometimes the quest if more fun that finding the answer. The Narcissus is one of two shuttles attached to the Nostromo and is located under the port engine nacelle support. The Narcissus was the only operational shuttle in 2122, as the other one was out of order and in need of repairs. The Narcissus can support 2 people in hypersleep for extended periods. Absolute Proof that Time Travel does Exist... I found these while searching the internet for facts about Alien. http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/nostromo-pants-p-442.html It's no wonder Ripley was in her panties in the climactic last scene of Alien, some smarmy, little thief stole all the ships extra trousers.

the 2nd one has been my desktop for over 1 and 1/2 years now. I have absolutely loved Giger's work since I was first introduced to it during the first film and I must say he is not only extremely talented but one of the single "coolest" artists IMO I have ever checked out. I kept the Led Zeppelin Bootleg Album for "Nebworth" all these years and am still seeing new things in it today. I think you are absolutely right. Very cool. I think it's on the ALIEN Remastered Quadrilogy DVD set, in which they included each and every piece of artwork he submitted for the original film.

the ship was self destructing, hence the flames. Ripley had started the scuttle procedure it is written on the panel when she initiated self destruct. As an effect it looks like they were using the flamethrowers to simulate the slow destruction of the ship. as for people thinking it looks lame, hey! it was 1977 man!

I'm just looking at the image of Giger's Hierolglyphics painting in 'Giger's Alien' and a couple of things strike me... 1. The version that Apollo posted has a revised head on the 'humanoid' perring over the egg and with the facehugger and with the chestburster. In the original art, the humanoid appears to be wearing a space helmet in all three instances. I have heard before that this painting has been 'modified' - but why. The revised version does look more Space Jockey I agree, but I think it is too small if you compare against the egg. 2. Could it be that the creature arching over the painting is a version of the Space Jockeys that 'births' the eggs? Its mid-section does look odd and appears to be suggesting this is the case.

I remember this painting from way back, what springs to mind is that this was to be used in the movie, as a wall painting or sculpture within what was supposed to be the Alien Pyramid? Before the space jockey ship came into existence?
