Greetings all: I'm new here. Not sure if this has been discussed here before, but here goes: I'm a long-time fan of Alien, Aliens & xenomorphs in general. I love Alien & Aliens, but was disappointed with Alien3. I didn't hate it though. Has there ever been serious discussion of an Alien3 "reboot"? I think it was a damn shame how they killed of Hicks & Newt so carelessly. It wouldn't be the same without the same actors, but I think they could pull it off. What are your opinions?

AND THAT RIGHT THERE IMO DISQUALIFIES YOU AS A FAN OF THE FRANCHISE BECAUSE ALIEN 3 CLEARLY DID NOT SUCK AND THERE WAS LOTS TO LIKE IN THAT FILM !!! MANY MANY MANY THINGS TO LIKE IN THAT FILM ACTUALLY !!! ALSO, AND THERE IS JUST NO QUESTIONING THIS ONE, ALIEN3 WAS, OUT OF ALL 4 ORIGINAL FILMS, THE ONE THAT HAD THE VERY BEST XENO KILLING HUMANS SCENES!!! BY MILES AND MILES AND MILES...IT ISN'T EVEN CLOSE!!!

and again, if you know your stuff so well and it sucked as you say than PLEASE RIGHT NOW show me the film you wrote and made that's better, cause that would be just about the ONLY THING ON THIS EARTH that would give any credibility what so ever to what you have been saying here!!!
Member Posts: 841 Snorkelbottom › Posted 01/18/2012 The problem with alien 3 is that it was never finished... If the special edition of alien 3 was recut by fincher with improved SFX and sound and possible new scenes then it would be finished and finally be recognized as the gem it is.
This is why I LOVE being here with all of you...guys like the one that posted the above. He and I do not see eye to eye all the time, but we RESPECT each other enough and these forums enough to be HONEST with each other and to everyone else even if it does not make anyone in particular feel all warm and fuzzy, even if it hurts. If I go over the edge in your opinion tell me, and if I can see where I was wrong I will be the first person to admit it. But just being here, for any of us, has to mean that we all saw something redeemable for all these years in the Alien franchise or we would not be here at all. To me that has to include all 4 films.

For me, alien 3 was a nice try by fincher To go back to the roots of ridleys alien. it was faster paced but was focusing on one alien without rambo action from aliens. Aliens was a nice spin off and it definetly was still a very serious movie unlike the horror comedy alien ressurection with too many funny moments and ugly Designed aliens. To me they should have stopped with Ripley after alien 3 and rather have Other protagonist on a totslly diffrent planet To meet more aliens.

In agreement with Spart here. You don't have to like either Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection but saying "they sucked" is an opinion that means nothing. Give reasons why you don't like it, fine. Then it becomes a valid debate. Then again, It makes perfect sense coming from somebody who doesn't understand the English language enough to differentiate between usage of the words "there", "they're" and "their"/"to" , "too" or even spelling in general.

I felt like both Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection were great. They had the story and character consistency of good film sequels and they weren't garbage. Alien 3 had AWESOME character moments that I think David Fincher was able to pull up out of the story. It had a very powerful script and Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dance and Charles S. Dutton were fucking fantastic in that film. It was different and it was darker and much more gritty. It wasn't about guns blowing up Aliens but it was about Ripley's final journey into hell and how she was going to leave her final mark on humanity. I just felt Alien 3 was a very powerful and moving film. You didn't want Ripley to give up but you knew how her demise was going to be and you start to really feel for Ripley because you have traveled with her through so much and now we get to see her death which was internally shocking yet awesome. Alien Resurrection I thought was epic on its own level. It showed you how fucked up and twisted the military were and how desperate they were to retrieve the Alien just like Weyland-Yutani. When Ripley finally confronts her clones that made you feel that what the scientists were doing was clearly wrong and you felt Ripley was different and the whole scope of the film was a unique thing. I thought the fact that Ripley bonded with the Aliens was such a brilliant notion and idea. That fact that she could now be accepted after hundreds of years have gone by. It was deep and frightening because it wasn't Ripley but a being that had Ripley's liking yet was Alien and that I thought was just a fresh idea and twist to the series. Ripley was now evil in a sense and her character was darker and very unpredictable. The past 3 films we could trust Ripley and we knew who she was but in Alien Resurrection she was THE Alien. We didn't know what she was capable of and I think that added to a lot of the mystery that is part of the series. Her coming back I think really served its justice because the military wanted to bring back the species but Ripley proved them wrong, that it wasn't any different than what she had been through before and the darkness she had faced wanted her to kill the Aliens even if she was a bit Alien herself. The film was different in that it really was about bringing someone back from the dead and how they can take on a whole new era of life. It was Ripley's journey back into a completely different and fucked up nightmare that I think no one would of truly expected. Deformed clones, a new breed of Alien like the Newborn, everything was genetically fucked up, creepy and terrifying. The horror that we knew nothing about. It was a different Ripley, a different time and a whole new fresh notion of Alien. That scene where Ripley is in the nest I think symbolically showed her sinking into the world of the Aliens which I thought was one of the most memorable, powerful and moving scenes in the entire series. I know a lot of people didn't like this film but to me it really left a deep, dark, mysterious and melodic groove into the series that is most definitely worthy. I thought both Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection were quality films in the Alien Series. Alien 3 was a powerful film. Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dance and Charles S. Dutton were fucking awesome. David Fincher was able to pull out amazing character moments from the story. The script was very powerful and moving. Alien 3 wasn't simply about guns blowing up Aliens but it was about Ripley's final journey into hell. You really felt for Ripley because she had been through so much and you knew she was going to have to face her demise but she wanted to leave her last mark on humanity. She wants to rid the universe of the evil that has been haunting her all her life. And that I think was such a powerful and emotional concept David was able to pull out of the film. It was less about guns and blowing up Aliens and more about how to face her nightmare and die knowing she won't have to worry anymore. The acting was fantastic and it was about the humans coming to terms with death. It was darker and more gritty. The story was powerful and intense and Ripley was a heroine. Her death was internally shocking yet awesome. Alien Resurrection was epic on a whole other level. We knew and trusted Ripley in the last 3 films but now in Alien Resurrection we see Ripley as a darker, evil and more unpredictable character which I thought added more mystery to the series. She was THE Alien in the story. It was awesome to see after hundreds of years have gone by that she was now accepted as part of the "family" to the Aliens. She had bonded with them. Ripley was strange and untrustworthy, she had the liking of Ripley but had the persona of an Alien. That I think gave her character a depth that added so much to the series. Her coming back I think served justice because she was able to show how her nightmare was no different in the past than it was in the dark distant future. The military was willing to retrieve the Alien in any way shape or form just like Weyland-Yutani. When Ripley faced her aborted clones it sickened you and made you feel that what the scientist were doing was clearly wrong. They weren't simply gags but they were emotionally charged. When I saw that scene when Ripley was in the nest it symbolically shows her sinking down into the world of the Aliens. Alien Resurrection was completely different. Ripley was different, the setting was different and the Aliens had conceived a whole new Alien, the newborn. The genetic fuck ups were terrifying, dark, creepy and melodic. And ultimately I felt Alien Resurrection really did leave a deep dark terrifying groove into the series. im just so glad they didnt go with the wooden planet script, even though alot of the sets were designed for it. if you didnt read any of that crap, wow. if you thought alien 3 was bad, damn. it would have evicerated the series, but the scene with the toilet was kinda cool

Very nice Ripley Clone. I like all 4 films in the series for different reasons. Most of which mirror your points. I just get very irritated at the whole lazy "suck" mentality that invaded pop culture in the 80s. Everybody has a right to like whatever they want, but if they are going on forums to bash things I feel it is only right to give reasons why and not just try to add negativity to the subject at hand.

@MindBender. Thanks man!! I hate it too. A majority of people out there just say they suck without giving ANYKIND of justifiable reason as to why. And to be flat out honest I think its bullshit. Alien 3 is a very dark and emotionally powerful film. You "feel" for Ripley and all the terrors she has overcome. "You've been in my life so long...I can't remember anything else." Ripley was facing hell. The fact she had an Alien queen inside her and her final solution was to face death itself was just one bold intense aspect of the film. Thats one thing I loved about it was the dark greasy smell of death. The true grittiness these characters encounter. You don't care about anything else but Ripley destroying this nightmare that has suppressed her normal life for decades. Charles S. Dutton was fabulous in this film as Dylan. One of the most powerful characters in this series. Charles Dance was that guy you hoped would help Ripley through the end. He wasn't only a friend but that small and final love interest Ripley embraces. Ripley- "Are you attracted to me..." Clemens- "In what way." Ripley- "In that way." Clemens- "Your very direct.." Ripley- "I've been out here a long time." What I ultimatley loved about Alien 3 was this sense that Ripley was "finished." She has finally owned up to all the deaths she's faced and takes a stand with her own life. It was meaningful and the story was real. I just don't understand why people hate it either? Alien Resurrection was fucking epic. I thought Ripley being partially an Alien herself was fucking badass. If you look at it, each film inches closer to the human body. And finally in Alien Resurrection Ripley bonds with the Alien gene which creates a whole new Ripley. The action scenes were fun, dark and intense. It was radically different which I loved. It was 200 years in the future and Ripley was a heroine within an Alien body. She was different yet very mysterious and thats what I think molded her dark romantic personality. The past she has fought off and won over is done with but now she has embraced it and it has become part of her. I think that was moving yet intriguing. The film really revolves around the idea of trying to bring someone back from the dead and how they treat the world around them after already having a long lost distant past. The deleted scenes also tell a story of there own. Ripley looks at a picture of a young girl in the scene during her Medical Examination and begins to break down, as it reminds her of Newt from Aliens. Then in the chapel Call -"I couldn't watch them annihilate themselves...do you understand that?" Ripley-"I did once....I tried to save...people..it didn't work out...there was this girl...she had bad dreams...I tried to help her... she died....and now I can't even remember her name." There's many references to Newt from Aliens. I think it was sad and heart wrenching. You knew she remembered Newt, she just couldn't remember her name but she could remember her as "the girl." The reference at the beginning of the film. "My mommy always said there were no monsters...no real ones.....but there are." And then you see Ripley 8 go from a little girl to an adult. I thought little references like that were amazing and they really added to the characterization and story of the film. There's more to these films then people realize and to be honest I will never know why people don't like them but I guess its just the ignorance and high criticism that drives these people to dislike the films. I loved ALIEN, I loved ALIENS, I liked ALIEN 3, I was indifferent with ALIEN Res. The end of Alien Res didnt mesh well with me, I hated the cross-breed xeno thing. Im sorry I laughed at it. It wimpered like a child and killed like a ruthless monster, wtf. Ive mentioned this before, the scene where the scientist is cocooned and doing goo goo baby talk to the xeno thing and calling it a beautiful butterfly and saying come here come here. The thing climbs up there all innocent and then bites his head off, i busted out laughing! I get people aren't going to like ALIENS for their reasons, but man I thought it was an awesome movie! I dont really get why people say cameron dumbed them down to "bugs"? Give examples of why you state this, im not arguing i just would like to know why? If you are insinuating that just because they come at the marines with reckless abandon then that is not how I see it. What I see in ALIEN is a single xeno being sneaky and covert trying to survive and in the process get numbers on his side, hence the nest it was starting. In ALIENS you see what happened once they got a nest started and started out numbering the hosts. I see strength in numbers the reason they come at them with reckless abandon and feel no threat. Another thing I read was that it took 3 or 4 bullets to kill them. Well there is nothing in ALIEN that lead me to believe that xeno was all powerful either. I mean if Ripley's little harpoon gun could penetrate the xeno in ALIEN im sure bullets could do it damage as well. Just my thoughts

I couldn't agree more Game Over Man. I hear some people complain about Aliens. Aliens was a action packed, heart pouding thrill ride. What the fuck are some people saying lol honestly. Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection tend to get the most criticism but Aliens does get its share of criticism from time to time. The thing is, is that every film is different and its unique on its on take. Honestly EVERY film in the series is worth the watch, they are all fucking awesome and epic and have something to say in their own way. Honestly the people who think differently just UGH...idk man. People like that bother the shit out of me.

if you do to alien 3 what the creators of highlander 2 did for their remake, it would be awesome. there's so much you could do, just dont george lucas it. on its on it is its own movie, so dont take away from its foundation. alien res is in the same boat. if it aint broke, dont fix the some bitch

It is nice when you have people backing you Ripley Clone 8. But on the other side of the spectrum the others feel justified as well because they have others that share their opinions. That is what makes discussions like this so awesome. You get to see others points of view on things, which gives you insight to what they are thinking and why they feel the way they do. Whether you agree or not. Which makes for some dog gone good debate. :) Which can be fun when done in an adult manner(no name calling. :) But we are human and the defensive nature will come out from time to time. :)

Oh totally I understand. Thats completley true. Its just the people who shove their opinions in peoples faces and shut down any other opinion people have that drive me nuts. The reason why I say that is because Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection do get A LOT of hate from people and as a fan of the whole series I have a deep passion for each film. I'm not knocking down people's opinions but there's nothing wrong with defending your opinion in a polite manner. But I totally agree with you!

Well I am an honest person and have been one of the posters to say the AVP movies are downers. I say that because they are really far fetched and dont really relate well with the Alien movies. As I said I have mixed emotions about Alien Res, there are things I liked about it and as I said the end of alien res stunk it up. :) But I do own every dvd that features a xeno and that includes the AVP movies. :)

so do i game over. i will admit that. but when i decide to watch any avp, i just forget the plot and concentrate on the action. its like drinking moonshine, harsh on the way down, but gets the job done when in doubt. res wasnt that bad, just kind of disapointed with the hybrid. the death was awesome, but still it kind of made me think of a big nasty puppy lol
