Ridley Scott says he will for sure make a third Alien prequel if he gets the right idea!

There is still hope! Filmmaker Ridley Scott has changed his tune with regards to Alien! Months back, Scott had been quoted saying he felt he was done with Alien, after Alien: Romulus released and did extremely well and with the Alien: Earth series on the horizon at the time. Hope seemed lost and it was suggested Scott would never revisit his original plans for the Alien prequels and David's story arc. Today – the winds of hope once again fill our sails.

Speaking to The Guardian, Ridley Scott was inquired about whether or not he would ever get back into the director's chair and helm another Alien prequel – his answer was a surprising yes, conditional on if he could find the right idea for it:

Will there be a third Alien prequel and a Gladiator 3?

Gladiator is in process right now. Another Alien prequel – yeah, if I get an idea, for sure.

This is a major shift in sentiment since his last remarks earlier this year. Perhaps seeing the reinvigorated interest in Alien has got Scott thinking again.

Despite Alien: Covenant having underperformed at the box office in 2017, his 2012 Alien prequel Prometheus was a massive success and set a new precedence for the franchise. While the Alien: Earth series seems to be ignoring the groundwork Scott laid with his prequels, Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus certainly did not – leaving much to be explored upon in later films.

The Alien: Romulus sequel begins filming this October, right as the first season of Alien: Earth will be coming to a close. With so much emphasis on the Xenomorph, familiar environments, characters and nostalgic regurgitation of things we've seen over and over, Ridley Scott's vision for the franchise offered a vast landscape of untapped and thought-provoking potential.

Would you like to see Scott direct another Alien prequel? Would you want it to conclude David's arc? Or be something completely unrelated? Let us know in the comments!

The Alien: Romulus sequel is currently in development and cameras are set to roll by October, 2025! Be sure to bookmark the Alien: Romulus 2 Info Page for an up-to-date account of all available information, production updates and important details!

In addition to the upcoming Alien: Romulus sequel, we have the Alien: Earth TV series from Noah Hawley now streaming and a rumoured Alien vs. Predator reboot in the works as well!

The only character I didn't like in the Alien movies was that uppity, self righteous, hypocrite doctor. She had blood on her hands because she wouldn't allow a security detail with the others.

it would it is a perfect time to get Sir Ridley third prequel and now he can free the xenomorph and just focus on the the engineers world. And I really want David making a comeback.

Me too! I think having the series and the Romulus sequel on the way, the Xenomorph will be well taken care of so it really would free up space for Scott to lean into the Engineer backstory more. It could be a perfect match and would satisfy both sides of the fandom, cause many of us are getting desensitized to the same old predictable Xenomorph chaos.

You do realize she was overruled on that right? That has nothing to do with what happens to Fifield and Millburn or Holloway. Believe me I rewatched Prometheus last night

I have a hankering to watch Alien: Covenant today, myself 😂 I find the more often I rewatch Prometheus and Covenant the more I appreciate them. People were so critical of these two films when they first came out but honestly, Scott did a great job with them. Prometheus will always have those subtle issues with the writing, Charlize Theron (my least favorite character) and the matching heart rates but it really was a decent film.

Both Prometheus and Covenant have vastly more unsettling and scary "Alien" moments than anything that's come since. The Hammerpede attack, the Trilobite, the Deacon bursting scene in Prometheus. The Backburster scene in Covenant. And - Michael Fassbender as David - can't beat David and Fassbender's performance.

I watch them over and over again. I just won't watch the last Alien Earth episode because that goat scene was sickening. Enough with the animal torture scenes. The writer's must be sadists who can't write a normal science fiction episode. Fassbender is a good actor. I still don't get the obsession with Lawrence of Arabia. Not a fan of that film.

Agreed. My unpopular opinion would be that I prefer both Prometheus and Covenant over Romulus. Watched Prometheus and Covenant back to back the other night. Alien was last night.

I would be OK with it if the human characters are better done, if we get more about the Engineers and less about the androids. Don't make David the creator of he Xeno because that sucks ass. Honestly I'm not too interested in another prequel.

I can't edit my post so I will add that I don't want another David movie, a movie where he plays a big role because I'm honestly done with that.

Tonight I'm going to watch Alien3. Each night I watch the movies and then the last episode in the TV series. I've observed some things I never saw before thanks to some of you. I just hate the movies, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection but I want to see if I can figure some things out now that some of you have enlightened me.
