I wanted to know what people thought about the Space Jockey Suit/ Corpse lying there in this photo. Any ideas behind it??? Apologises if this has been discussed. It might have when they were first released. Am assuming this is one of first rooms their investigating when they leave Prometheus and this isn't on the Jockeys spacecraft like the derelict in Alien. Its the temple? What do we think about the suit just lying there???

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012This is a difficult scene to judge. It could be on the SJ spacecraft. We know those ships are huge and the only part of it that we've ever really seen is the main cockpit, but I'm with you and think it's in some temple.
I think the corpse is the suit. If it's an actual body, we then have a decapitation and that doesn't sit right with me. To me an Engineer wearing the suit walked into the room, took off his helmet and set it down, climbed out of the suit, and left it laying where he got out of it. They must not have hangars in SJ land.
Purpose of the suit - I think the suit it mutifunctional.
1) It's an environment suit. When your running around teraforming planets you are going to run into a wide variety of atmospheres. No matter how "tough" the engineers are, they are going to run into environments that are inhospitable.
2) It's a biohazard suit. We are pretty sure that the Engineers like to play with organic goo and make stuff. The suit could be engineered to be organically neutral and allow then to handle the goo safely.
3) Weapon/Computer system/augmentation. Perhaps it has additional abilities such as increasing strength, adding a tactical display in the helment, and computer functions?
IMO they wear the suit for a reason, not just because it looks cool!

MemberTrilobite01/9/2012I agree with Jeff that I think this scene takes place within the temple, that can be seen in the trailer.
I also agree that I think it is a bio-mechanical suit that is lying there in the scene, but I don't think the Jockey in question left the suit behind. IMO the Jockey, for reasons unknown, removed his helmet and for some reason died, where the suit now lays. But I believe that this happened a long time ago, and its body has since decomposed causing its skull to roll away from the rest of its body still held within the suit.

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012@Jeff & Snorkelbottom I would agree about what you think about the Space Jockey suit. Was thinking also? We can see that the head/ helmet is not on the body. What about if the Jockey was killed or died and the reason for examining/ scanning the head is because inside is still another skull??? I know there are loads of ideas about how this suit! But could it be a possibility do we think?

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012I like the idea about the crew of the Prometheus finding the SJ's world and after meeting them discover their sinister and/or malevolent nature. I have also read where Ridley Scott stated that the Space Jockies do very "perverse" things in the movie. My bet is they capture and study/torment the Prometheus crew.........The crew retaliates and the SJ decide mankind is too savage........

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012@Sherlock I know what your mean. Showing them heading out to space, come across the temple and what not and then all of a sudden ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE and they realise they are messing with the wrong people. Can't wait!!!!

Or maybe the SJ decides we are too much of a threat? SJ creates humanity for some unknown reason, but more or less thinks of us as cattle. Except these cattle fight back, and have developed pretty lethal technology of our own.
What's more lethal.. A xeno or a marine with a pulse rifle, flame thrower, and grenade launcher? Take that a step further.. Tactical nuke. Add to that a population of many billions..

Don't think human/ humanoid eyes would fit into those sockets????? Got this picture from another guys blog. Not my own.

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012In all honesty not to quell anyone's enthusiasm, but just give it some thought. In just over two hundred years we've advanced so far beyond calvary and canons a conflict between our current military and even that of a century ago would be a hands down fiasco. Do you really think that if you extended the evolution of your enemy over a million years into the future that any of your weapons would be useful? A hive of unarmed xenomorphs all but took out a battalion of state of the art combat troops over a century after the events in Prometheus took place. The explosion of the atmospheric processors in Hadley's Hope dealt with them. Ultimately though a few little eggs took care of the Sulaco and the rest of the survivors. This franchise has a track record of taking any gung ho attitude and just crushing it, end of the line. It's usually a case of the person who maintains their calm, and thinks get's through it, until the sequel. As for the fate of this suit. Combining technology with decapitation is merging both the high tech with the primative. I'd hate to think that if the suit has sensor feeds and enhancements for the wearer that he simply didn't see "IT" coming. That's if he was decapitated and didn't merely succomb to something and decay resulting in the head seperating from the body. Hopefully the examination of the skull can give the expedition some clues as to what might have happened. Anoxia will take most organisms out pretty rapidly. If the SJ is similar to a xenomorph though that would not be the case. So as a slice of time, that scene leaves you with as many questions as it does the characters in the film.

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012I agree with Ghost Solitaire.
That´s why I never liked the idea that the Xenomorphs are weapons. Because if this what they are, it speaks volumes about the Engineers _ and what it speaks is not good.
See, I have just seen Aliens again last night. What happens in Alien is plausible because Nostromo was a commercial ship and it´s crew lacked appropriate equipment and training. But what happens with the "marines" in Aliens is pathetic EVEN to the standards of actual XXI century marines. Realize that: today, we have robotic drones, flying and crawling, that can do a lot of lethal tricks. But in Aliens, mankind, for some reason, master the art of artificial intelligence but hasn´t the imagination to put robots to do the dirt job. This is totally unaceptable.
That´s why the "Xenomorph as weapon" is really a joke. I bet that even today if we were bombed with xeno´s eggs mankind would have a non-zero probability of defeating them (ok, I concede that if the xenos could be able to infest the rest of Earth biosphere _ as Alien 3 strongly suggests _ that would be hell).
Besides that: if mankind mastered AI, we should be a post-singularity civilization when we encounter the Engineers. I can´t imagine that the Engineers realizations in the field of biology would be so esotherical to such an human civilization.
So: suspension of disbelief is the essence of modern cinematography. But it seems to me that "Prometheus" will close the "Alien" franchise cycle displaying a lack of imagination.
Notwithstanding that, I will surely love the movie.

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012yeah at first i felt that it was obviously an infestation...i mean we clearly see a dead jockey who was killed by the alien and the ship became infested with eggs...
then there is the idea that they are weapons and that perhaps they got out of control ...the thin blue laser layer supports this..if it was an infestation and all those eggs were planted by the aliens then why would there be that layer of light over the eggs...they seem to be being contained..maybe the space jockeys were doing research on the aliens and werent exactly using them as weapons and then the xenomorphs got out of control and killed the crew and the rest fled..leaving the contained eggs behind

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012I think that Space Jockeys there isn't there anymore. Maybe only the space suits still there and the alien DNA infect the humans of prometheus ship. This infection change human DNA and tranform them in a taller humanoid that are showing in the trailer ( with space jockey DNA ? I dont know). But there aren' t one alien DNA. There are many tipes of alien DNA (the space jockey are gods of creation). Then one alien DNA is that of alien franchiese. This dna infected man too and tranform them in one agressive being. The human that are tranformed kill others of tripulation and the only survivors are naomi (maybe there are others) and the taller humanoids. The taller humanoids help the god humans against the bad humans. The space jockey that is show in alien (the first film) maybe is a human transformed by the alien DNA with space suit. I don't know. I don't know
This is only a idea . I'm sorry with I make mistakes to wrote this. I'm from another country and my english is not so god.
