I think that if a movie studios knew for sure that people would spend money on seeing it they would release a blank movie reel. Come to think of it, Twilight is basically a blank movie reel and it made tons of money. Studios don't care about making masterpieces, they care about money. Business is business.

Yep, the latest interview with DL suggest that he had discussion with RS on what they should hold back in terms of story. Maybe that's why it feels half finished?!
Contempt for the audience IMO.

Well holding back has made me loose any interest in seeing how it would develop in the future. If they wanted to create a great trilogy with an overriding story arch it would make sense to make the first one REALLY interesting to start with...not make it into a half baked idea and save anything of any really importance to the story until the 2nd or 3rd film....
So basically we now have a movie that really has no sense of purpose, and you may have well started watching in at film No.2 because the first one is just a little...pointless!!!

Completely agree facebugger..... it wouldn't have taken much to make Prometheus spectacular...... as it is ...... a half cooked pizza........ or luke warm pint of your favourate beer....... hopefully the DVD directors cut will show more...... as a sequel has got to be at least 2 years away.......

I see Prometheus as a proof of concept. That a story set in the Alien universe can be expanded to involve more than the egg-facehugger-chestburster-Ripley with no weapons vs Xeno model. For good or bad they have mananged to reframe the story so that it doesn't live or die on Sigourney Weaver's participation.

i think the story lines to big for 1 film, so that would explain a trilogy,
yeah fox is money driven like most businesses though.

Completely agree Deano, and I think if it was certain there will be a Prometheus 2 and 3 then the fans would be eager. At the moment I am certainly liking how Prometheus turned out, but am a little half baked and wanting more of a story. Two years away is to long to wait.......

This movie would have would not have been rated R, if it was trying to just make money. That's what Avatar and the Hunger Games did. It's exactly what Ridley Scott wanted without a single frame cut by fox. You make it sound like fox had something to do with what is in or not in this movie, but they had nothing to do with it (on purpose!!), and it's been clearly stated on several occasions.
