Quote - "It was really sort of a 'coming around to a full circle' for me working with Ridley on the Alien Prequel.
I was thirteen or fourteen when Alien originally opened at the theater in 80. Because I was under age at the time I first saw it with my parents, and then dragged every aunt and uncle that would go see it with me to the theater 8 times.
That movie affected me more so than Star Wars. Well... Star Wars was pretty huge but Alien was serious. And I think that was what was so cool about it.
It wasn't a comic book, or so far out that it couldn't happen in a real future. Very, very impactful movie experience for me at the time. Also, the exposure to Giger's work which knocked me around for years."
On working with Ridley Scott on Prometheus he says:
"As high as my expectations were, working with Ridley was better than I expected. He was focused on the design and what I was doing for the first 3 months. It was great!
I can't talk about the movie, but it was a great experience for me.
I don't know what they ended up using of mine in the end, but I was the only one designing the alien creatures at that time." - Quote

I think he must of been designing some of the mutations as his art looks to be "body Horror", some freaky shit on there.

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012difficult one this,
Alien & Geiger go hand in hand; i'm a bit nervous seeing anything other than geiger.
"geiger-esque" became part of the english language in sci-fi/art/gaming circles :)
I don't think the images from "carlos huante" are as distinctive, unique as geigers' defining work - however thats' no comment on "carlos's" proficiency as an artist; it could be that we're just so used to seeing this sort of thing in photoshop in the internet age that we become a bit blaze to it.
It might be that the rapport between carlos & riddley is what is more important this time round, perhaps ridley just feels confident he can get Carlos to visualize & iterate his ideas..
Wheras with Alien, you can see the direct translation of Geigers distinctive, defined style into the striking imagery in the film, you could almost say alien was a vehicle for geigers' art.

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012Giger may not be fully involved in PROMETHEUS but you can expect some of the old Giger design DNA in the new movie. I can guarantee you that. Giger as distilled through the eyes of this young guy Carlos. Will be interesting!
The top image looks to be coming from the movie SILENT HILL.

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012i like it looks cool i'm still holding out for the single project Giger has reported to have worked on in prometheus .
Between him Giger and neville page we should see something breathtaking Fingers crossed.

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012I like his work.
Giger will likely always be my favorite artist (next to Dali and da Vinci). While his worked helped to define ALIEN and I hope he is heavily involved in Prometheus, I have no problem having another artist(s) involved. I believe Giger's work has inspired many contemporary artists (especially those involved in movie concept design). Many of these young artists definitely deserve the same chance Giger once had (even if its with an ALIEN prequel).

Honestly, sometimes I wonder if the only thing Giger may have been involved with is the design of the head statue seen int he movie poster. It has minimalistic giger-esque lines/tubes. However, I truely hope he did more.
(I also think the Giger-esque caverns we've seen in pictures were probably designed by other artists working off Giger's original designs for ALIEN.)

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012i thought that but ridley said hes keeping it under wraps so heres hopeing

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012The first image looks like a failed cloning of Ripley in Alien Resurrection.

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012i wasn't overly impressed with that aspect in resurrection i feel it could of been handled better should of employed rob bottin for that .

right, ok, so carlos being younger may simply be able to work longer & harder on these designs getting through more iteration, I know iteration and refinement is tremendously important to creative projects aswell as original vision. It could indeed be a safe choice.
I'll stop panicking :)

My sentiments exactly and that's why I hope he is doing the human mutations, but he does mention "Alien" designs.(bit strange that he doesn't know what they ended up using imo though)

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012same as neville page in his radio interview he said ive designed a lot and was working furiously to please Ridley but what designs they used i'm unable to say?

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012@Theusprom
Actually I'm not surprised he doesn't know what they ended up using. I've never worked in the film industry but I do work in the toy industry. Many times concept artists are contracted/commissioned to turn in designs for a specific element/character. Once the design is complete and submitted, the artist may never here back from the design studio. His/Her work may or may not be used. Just depends on the situation.
Giger had a very different role during ALIEN. He was basically Art Director for the Alien designs. He wasn't just a hired concept artist. He had influential input in the look of the creature and its environment and how everything was built sculpted within the space used as the set for the film.
Edit: Thats why Giger won the Oscar for the film's design. That award usually goes to the film's art/concept director. Not the concept artist who did a few sketches.

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012I can't find Carlos Huante listed in the production crew at IMDB's entry for Prometheus.
Did IMDB miss his credit as a creature designer somehow? Carlos' work looks excellent. Ridley did good by hiring him.

MemberTrilobite01/25/2012Carlos Huante's work mostly tends towards the biological (usually deformed in some way), although he can do mechanical, but from what I've seen on his website he doesn't really do biomechanical that much (I think I only saw one)? Should we be worried?

draekus
MemberOvomorph01/25/2012@ Snorkelbottom
Nah, I don't think so. Based on the work in his gallery I'm sure he can pull off Bio-mechanical if asked to.

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012i saw his work a while back, someone posted a link to his webpage
although his work IS solid, it's something i've already seen before,
unlike Giger, who's work was just all too unique, and iconic for it's time
still, i will keep an open mind, that Ridley and the team of art directors
Scott has chosen will bring out the very best in Carlo's work. so i am
confident that overall, the end result will keep well within the ALIEN
look and vibe

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012that first pic does look like a failed ripley clone, and the seccond one with the freakin face on his arm and the heads in the green dome things, just freaks me out!

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012draekus, Ridley confirmed in the Filmophobia article that Giger did two large murals for 'Prometheus'

OrganicLife
MemberOvomorph01/25/2012Looking through his gallery here, it looks like he's done some of the art for Van Helsing and the Eragon movie. On the one hand, I don't really like that because we don't want anything that tame in this movie.
But on the other hand, it definitely looks like his imagination is capable of really running wild, especially in the mutated creature department. If he was allowed (or encouraged) to do that for this film then we could get some very interesting results.
