So as you see here is the most logical explanation of the reason for helmet and chair, and sure for engineer. Before i continue i ask you guys and maybe girls, plz don`t argue about the helmet and the engineer, caz it is already clear that Space Jokeys are humanoid Gods...And Ridley`s comments proved that.
So here we get the explanation of the idea how does engineer become the Space Jokey. That device puts on the helmet that slends with the guy`s flesh, so the same may happen with the rest of the body as we see the chair is empty inside and there may also be such a device for rest of the body, and here we get the Space jokey we all know....Now i offer you the idea that the suits in the tunnel with shaw were the statues...
Another question - what is the function of that suit....
Come here everybody we need your help, give us ideas...

well spotted, this seems to explain the stitching on the helmet/skull that has
been widely discussed !!!

Hats off to you sir! That's actually a brilliant explanation; simple, effective and it incorporates the bio mechanical element. (+10 points for a diagram also, I do like a good diagram.)

Some observations...
The head/helmet does not go where it is indicated in exhibit 'B'.
The head/helmet would rest directly beneath the protruding display thing you can see at the bottom-right of the exhibit 'B' frame.
But I guess this is all inconsequential to your argument.

I think we've all seen the ampule room picture with Noomi and Katie bent over examining the head/helmet and the rest of the space jockey laying on the ground to the right. I'm assuming this head/helmet is the one they are examining in the lab on the trailer.
That being said..
If the back of the Space Jockeys head/helmet is part of the chair, then how did the jockey from the ampule room get out of the chair?

i guess that device rolls down to the needed place or any other way, that device is definitely used for helmet, as in Alien when we see the SJ there is no such a device...

Jeffomorf, the ampule room is in the temple, not in the derelict. And that body is another SJ or its suit. There were lots of discussion about the differences between the main SJ room with the chair where the space map is as well, and the temple with the head.....

So your saying that the corpse and head shown in the ampule room photo is neither a SJ or it's suit?

i mean that is another SJ, not that one in Alien. Actually you can see the sleeping pods in the SJ room near the chair and one of them is opened. The engineer is not far from the pod, so i think he woke up and was going to use that chair to get the access to the ship or something else...The space Jokey in ampule room is found earlier than the blue guy woke up and became the SJ from Alien, i think so..

Starbeast, I don't think the chair is out of the floor and opened all the way yet in the clip. So, the head/helmet might possibly align correctly once it was all the way out of the floor and open. Just a thought...

i think is reasonable but i will add some ... biomechanic fusion ...or dna mess ...

more SJ chair photos!

I seriously think that the original ALIEN team didn't mean the SJ to be more than a visual hint of ancient artifacts that is supposed to evoke wonder and/or terror. Giger images do not follow conventional rationalization: Is it a skeleton? A biomechanics suit? It is supposed to be incomprehensible and explaining it would ruin the sense of wonder. I don't think Giger or Ridley envision the movie as a series of sequels with detailed expansive mythologies. Imagine if a sequel/prequel to 2001 scientifically explain the Monolith as a brain-altering device with chips made by IBM from a distant future. That movie would bomb, and probably end up as a Mystery Science Theater classic along with PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE.

Hi Guys!
I’m still not buyin’ the difference in body size between the humanoid figure and the Space Jockey(SJ), as far as the bio-suit concept goes. To me, the SJ is substantially larger…in every way…by like at least a third. Now, it could be that the smaller guy fits into an SJ suit, but it certainly wouldn’t be a proportional fit.
However, from Ridley Scott’s comments, I do believe that the SJ figure as we know it, is indeed going to be some kind of suit or carcass for some other being. But, maybe the being is not the humanoid “Dr. Manhattan” looking guy. Maybe be it’s going to be something altogether different...and new to us.
The inference from the great face/head statue in the ampoule room, is that the being or beings that it represents/depicts…are “running the show”…and are in control…at least at one point they were. So I think that the humanoid being(s) are the “Engineers”…and perhaps fancy themselves as gods.
Maybe these “Engineers” were involved with…or responsible for the SJ beings and their suits…as well as Mankind’s origins. Perhaps the SJs are the Engineer’s stooges or slaves. I remember reading somewhere, we were promised a new larger form of alien creature. Could it be that whatever is inside the SJ suit…is that very creature?
What do you guys think?

No doubt that the suits that appear in the picture of shaw are statues. on the other hand occur to me 5 possible roles for the suits:
1 - Serve to give life a creature, as already mentioned in this forum perhaps is something like a table of surgery or laboratory. It is the work desk of the engineer, where this God can perform an architectural work in the design of the DNA of any creature to then give life. Perhaps his biological suit has a kind of intelligence can provide DNA of engineers to the new creation, or as the saying: God created man in his image and likeness; lol although in the case of serious Xenomorph: God created the Xenomorph in his suit and likeness.
2 - It is just a mechanism so that his body not disintegrating when it reaches speeds of light. i.e. an astronaut suit. But it might be the equivalent of suspended animation of humans, by way of crio hypersleep Chambers.
3 - It is as I said a panel of surgery but with military purposes, and the costume is one machine oriented to the creation of biological weapons, which are then stored in cellars. (such as the wineries of eggs of the first Delerict). When the process of creation of weapons has been completed, the ship takes off to set course to some planet I infest it. Although I think of an idea: If the Chair scene is Mount for opening of the genesis of the Earth, And on Earth since life existed long before the arrival of the Space Jockeys?. Then maybe decided use their biological weapons to clear land before his terraforming have inplantacion of their own creations.
4 - Are obvious similarities between the bodies of the Xenomorphs and the Space Jockeys suits. Therefore the suit is a vehicle biomechanical dedicated to the transport of an engineer. Maybe it works simultaneously as a battle suit, and perhaps this is the real biological weapon. In that case the xenomorphs are perhaps Replicants or androids biomechanoids.
5 - Is a bit of all the alternatives before mentioned: 1, 2, 3 and 4.

@Shambala
I think #3 option may be closest to the idea that the cylindrical object in front of the SJ is a device to launch the eggs into "virgin" planets, or to destroy them. Remember in the teaser how the chair rises from below the deck. And from ALIEN, we know what is beneath that deck, the cavernous Egg Chamber. It sounds disturbing but, there you go. My opinion is that the intention of the Space Jokeys may be noble: to seed empty planets, to start a new life, experimentations to improve genetic coding etc. Maybe the Gods instruct Space Jokeys to "go forth & multiply." LOL! But there is a twist: instead of intelligent, compassionate, cultured beings, what Space Jokeys end up with is this mindless horde of creatures devoid of morality. This may or may not be explained in PROMETHEUS.

@Engr101, It's not that Ridley or Giger planned sequels or prequels with these details in mind. Ridley stated in the Filmophobia article that he always viewed the SJ as being a suit for something else. There's no reason to think he put anymore thought into it than that at the time, but if we are to believe what he's saying in that article, then there's no reason we can't accept the idea that the simple concept of 'SJ as suit' has been stewing and germinating in the nooks and crannies of his brain over the last 30 years.
