MemberOvomorph02/21/2012I found this whilst trying to find pictures of Prometheus, it's an interesting read.
Coined in an article on http://www.rpgmp3.com as the 'original space jockey' (or inspiration for the original space jockey)

PROMETHEUS
I really like the story of PLANET OF VAMPIRES
But I hope Ridley & co. do not go on that metaphysical route....

MemberOvomorph02/21/2012There's an old saying: "Good artists create. Great artists copy." ;-)

MemberOvomorph02/21/2012Yeah, said by T.S. Eliot: Good poets borrow, great poets steal

MemberOvomorph02/21/2012The inspiration for the original Space Jockey is the top half of "Neconomicon IV".
A painting...by H R Giger.

MemberOvomorph02/21/2012I fnd them too modern compared to those of the Nostromo, not sure about those at all, but I trust Ridley to do the sensible thing on this issue, and scrap em or explain them in film. They don't look right at all.

MemberOvomorph02/21/2012There actually is a kind of similarity between the Prometheus space suits and the purple bodysuits from Planet Of the Vampires - interesting observation.

MemberOvomorph02/21/2012@ Spartacus: re the "new" suits in Prometheus vs "old" suits in Alien, despite it being "after" Prometheus:
thought it was justified in Prometheus is top-of-the-line Military/Science/Corporation and the Nostromo was 3rd tier "truckers" equipment.
Otherwise it feel feel like the problem in the Star Wars cycle where I, II, and III, look more advanced than IV, V, and VI... Well the haircuts looked better in I, II and III anyway...
Hope Prometheus will fell as realistic as Alien did.

MemberOvomorph02/21/2012Agreed @Ozx......the Nostromo is a tug vessel that's had God only knows how many trips into deep space and is covered in grime and is a grunt's ship with truckers piloting it, using bottom of the barrel basic, yet reliable tech.....
The Prometheus is a super advanced, top of the line, R&D vessel that, by the way, just happens to be ferrying Weyland's CEO.....you're damn right that things going to be top of the line..............

MemberOvomorph02/21/2012This is the Necronom pic that Spartacus mentioned.
Ridley saw this pic and told Giger to create the space jockey based on the reclining figure on the top left...

for a full explaination on the origins of the space jockey you should read this previous thread
On the suits, maybe they have different suits depending on the gravity of the planet.
This suit just looks like the bare minimum - headgear with a utility harness. So this 'planet' is close to 1G I would think.

MemberOvomorph02/22/2012Weird I wonder if this will end up being connected to Prometheus like "It the terror from Beyond Space" is connected to alien. The plot reviews make it sound like it could.
