Talk about temple outside of ship

the two shots from the trailer with the land rovers almost looks like its from two locations ,planets?? .... or bay doors opening up . heading out(dark) , land rovers heading back to the ship in the dust( sunny looking) or its just,,, one during the day and the other one night

There could very well be separate ship & temple. Ridley might want to revisit some aspects of the old scripts for 1979 ALIEN. The original script to ALIEN has always posited separate locations for spaceship wreck and indigenous temple. Due to budget constraint, they combine the two together in the final version. 2 different viewpoints, one from ship, one looking to ship, why would you see temple in both shots? (if there is anything there at all)

@F--- it - lets go for it!....is on the right track...it's impossible to judge distance in both shots, but at a basic estimation, the "temple"is twice the distance from the lens that the ship is, at least.... Imo, its a bit too far fetched. It could Just be an interesting shape of rocks. There could be a temple in this movie, but i dont think that the teaser really shows such. Because we are so excited about this Movie, some of us are starting Seeing things by overanalyzing Images from.the teaser trailer.

I'm sure in the shot of the derelict crashing you see part of the temple. It doesn't move in the same way as the derelict crashing (if at all, it appears the camera is moving and the temple is static) but the shot of the derelict crashing does not give much reference to where the human ship was parked...

The temple behind the alleged totem appears IMO to move independently to the derelict, & IMO the movement is due to the camera panning with the action rather than the temple actually moving, although I did appreciate the pictures that @Biomechanic produced :)

@invaderzim42 I had the same thought too!!! almost looks like the Tyrell building in Bladerunner,but backlit! could just be mountain range in the background though

@Bellaisanalien, that's not the 'temple' it's the other prong of the Derelict class ship.

@bunnypmf, as Snorklebottom has said this has been discussed at length, it's just I am in the camp that think it is part of the temple. Also if you read my post I have put 'IMO' this is [u]not[/u] part of the crashing derelict. I am not stating that it is or isn't anything just what I believe, I can not see how anybody can without seeing the full sequence of events. I did think it was part of the derelict until I ran VCL player 'still' by 'still' to find a 'so-called totem' after viewing these stills the movement of the derelict crashing and the structure behind it do not appear to move together; thus why IMO the structure is part of the temple and [u]not[/u] part of derelict.

@Engr101, In addition to the "W" you point out, O'Bannon's illustration of the temple looks like a stylized egg to me. The four corners below the "W" are the egg "flaps", and the pyramid's point is emerging from the egg.

As Long as we see plenty of Triangles in this thing I will be completely satisfied, in fact the triangle I look forward to seeing the most, belongs... I believe... to Charleze Theron...lol.

@Snorkelbottom i know you talked about this before, this is somewhat a response to that post, but there has been other talk too so i did not say it was a response. and my point is that the "temple" if it was a temple looks very close to be that big in the shot of the doors opening up, and to be that close, would be exactly where the trucks are when driving back to the ship, unless they are mountains or the temple is just THAT big, but i don't think so, if this is LV-426, even after whatever terrible thing happened to change the landscape, it would still be partly there in alien, the derelict survived, and if you say that the derelict is on top of it and the eggs are in it (a theory that i disagree with btw) then that would mean that it would need to be smallish, and close to the Prometheus to look that big in that shot, and would be close and in shot in that other shot, and yeah i am tong tying my hand right now trying to type this lol does anybody get what i am saying? and remember, this is all under the assumption that the shot of the doors opening, the shot of the trucks coming back, and the shot of the crash are all in the same place, all 3 of these events could be in 3 different places, as i said before so don't take me to seriously, just enough to get me :D

@ Invaderzim42 - there are various filmmaking techniques than can be used to make background objects appear closer or further away than they actually. These techniques can be done in camera and all rely on the position/movement of the camera, the zoom and the focus. Although any of these could have been used for the shot in question when the garage doors open there is one simple thing that has to be taken into account, the size of the temple. Because this the only shot in which we can see it externally, and because we have no means by which to accurately compare it we simply do not know how big this temple is, for all we know this structure could be frickin huge. Either that or Ridley has utilised one of the techniques referred to at the start of my post. Remember to keep an open mind, and not to get bogged down in certainties of the uncertain.

Hey IZ, I think the story has multiple planet visits. I don't think the Engineers are gonna just leave a single here's waldo location on a planet I am sure they will visit a few places during the search for our creators. So LV-426 could be in that chain somewhere but not the actual final destination. Snorkler, I think we have more than one destination. Its kind of like treasure hunting follow the clues. So the Temple is not going to be in the FoV of the ship "dock" with the vehicles hauling tail back. That is a different scene all together. Regards, Rick

[img]http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s470/Ginja666/vlcsnap-2012-02-17-20h14m02s25.png[/img] On the left side of the frame, there are distinct objects.....1) the "totem", circled in red...2) the crashing derelict, which is very dark due to shadows...3) some other structure in the far background which is lit by the planet's sun and NOT MOVING...........the difference is very distinct. The crashing ship moves and that lit object does not, thus, we're seeing two distinct structures..... Who knows what the lit structure in the background is, but it's there, it's separate and it does not move.

And if you look at these two successive shots, you can see what the two of us refer to.... i used to think it was two structures but if you look at the one in the background it looks just like the one wing of the derelict with the two brings (now stuck in the ground) so i think that that end stuck in the ground and the other end is now falling down towards the camera, so its like tilting, so the back piece IS moving, but the way it is shot it looks like it isn't. get me? and also it looks like there are 2 derelict crashes in the movie. this one, and the other one where it lands the other way and falls over.
