They have a security team with them. When you are heading into a place you have never been, it is always good to have some guys that know how to react...being former military thats what I do.

Hey @GreatBoosUp...watch it with insulting fellow forum members....especially when YOU don't exactly have all of the facts or know what you're talking about.....
@20thcenturybuick is referring to this shot......

...which is, I garauntee you, in one of the three countdown teaser trailers....and it shows a less than human individual scrambling up the side of a vehicle in a very animalistic manner to flee flames from a flamethrower....
Let's be civil and respectful guys....

At this point, the guy above has ceased from being human and killing others. He is now a threat to the ship and to the crew. Though I can imagine someone of the science crew wanting to keep him to watch the effects. Being a threat, the security team as no other alternative, kill one and keep the crew safe but we know with some help from the trailer and the formula of the story, only one, possibly two will survive...
The question is what is going to happen and how and there are many variables. With Lindolf doing the script, who worked for secretive director JJ Abrams, so yeah, we are in a for a ride, which is going to be epic in scope and Scott's masterpiece.

He probably ate the lamp shade and a few crew members...but Ben is still good...the freezaroni's just messed him up.

@Biomechanic,
Well, in fairness they do seem to be equipped with handguns at some point so I understand where you're coming from.
Perhaps the lack of a gun is more suggestive of being taken by surprise than it is of what Mr. Zombie is made of? The incident still occurs in the hanger, where we've seen flame throwers before. It's the closest weapon a person would have assuming that not all archaeologists carry a gun.

mindless drivel? thanks scumbag
what kind of an asshole talks like that....you're good at degrading people...your the dumbass that is referring to the wrong screencap...
It may just be seen as standard procedure....fire is an obvious advantage and defensive tool....so that could be it...there may be practical uses as well...
Agreed, think Fifth Element's crude de-icing technique.
The real clue behind the scene with the flamethrower "test" is the snow falling right in front of them. Surely the ability to melt chunks of ice is a rather important one if you expect to drive back in such a cold environment.

Yeah Greatboosup personal attack was uncalled for but 20CB I would suggest just notifying a moderator rather than egging him on.
February 27, 2012
I'm aware @Biomechanic and have my eye on things.....let's relax guys.........@20thcenturybuick, I already posted a response to @GreatBoosUp......no reason you can't settle down either...civil...respectful.....got it guys?

In the shot without "mutant guy," they seem to be very casual about the use of flamethrowers. Everyone is just walking around, going about their business, not reacting to any significant, immediate threat. Maybe they're trying to eliminate something on the ground........perhaps the equivalent of extraterrestrial insect pests or their larvae. That's what it looks like to me, anyway. Maybe they're what Scott had in mind when he said that small, seemingly insignificant things end up being terribly important.
February 27, 2012
That's kind of what I was thinking as a possibility as well @Gehirn....it seems most likely to me now that whoever is using the flamethrower was probably in the hanger when they were attacked and had no other means to protect themselves......

It makes sense for the team of scientist's to have the security team and well, to ensure organisms are brought back and no second thoughts occur. Sending a multi million perhaps billion dollar vessel to the middle of no where is pretty risky. Mr Weyland wants to make sure his things are well protected. I would imagine they have hand guns and other weapons on board, perhaps not telling the rest of the crew what they have..because Shaw and others are under the impression this will be first contact and be a great mission for mankind. Yet, Mr. Weyland is prepared and by prepared has a security team to handle hostile organisms...

I think this shot that craigamore posted may be just before the bit in the trailer where the guy is jumping off the vehicle. In fact I think it's the very same guy, because in the leaked trailer that came out just before the official one there were still flames on that jumping guy, I think that were edited out in the official one, because in the official trailer there is still smoke coming off him.
Man. Who's got a handy time masheen? :-P

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

Maybe you have a point about zombish and the only way to destroy them is the creatation of a xeno........
Man steals SJ science project, space project goes out of control and infects man, infected man zombie mutant attact SJ, SJ unleash xeno to clean up the mess, xeno kills infected man, throw in Darwins theory and chest bursting infected man mutates into even more deadlier xeno
Terrifing mutated form of chest bursting xeno hunts down and kills both SJ and man except, Weyland Yutani Androids, which cannot be infected as they are robots.........
Weyland's androids send out a beacon signal that is picked up by the Nostromo

Surely does. I think you also mentioned when they were walking around calmly firing off flamethrowers, ten bucks says that's just before they set out to wherever they are headed for the first time since landing on the planet. Before the poop hits the fan.
