MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 2:21 PMModelled after a guy named Steve Jobs maybe? Or Elon Musk, the guy who runs SpaceX, and builds those Tesla Electric Cars

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 2:26 PMThey sure got the right actor for the job. Guy Pierce is a talented actor, don't get me wrong - I've never met him but he seems to be the type of person who could be an arrogant little prick. Is it me or does he sound a lot like John Hurt?

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 2:27 PMi found something quite interesting, there are doing promotional character banners ;) http://hpics.li/26edd66

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 2:29 PMI hope Ridely doesn't try to make some grand political statement with this film... cause that REALLY killed Avatar for me.

1) the speech si 50 years before the events of prometheus if im not wrong ...so he will be VERY OLD in the movie
2) So the rumor that Guy Pearce was in heavy prosthetics was true

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteFeb-28-2012 2:44 PMbut didn't we see a pic of guy pearce wearing specs and a spacesuit stood next to ridley?

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 2:46 PMWeyand says "we are the Gods now.." in the scene. It's interesting to say the least: a guy speculated that the old dude in the teaser is "a God."

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 3:02 PMThe various rumors & info that says Guy Pearce has a minor role turns out to be false. From this viral footage alone, it seems that he is the main driver for the story.

Mr.J
MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 3:13 PMLet the viral campaign begin and what a way to start it..with the man himself...Mr.Weyland!

Charism
MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 3:18 PM@Engr101 - maybe he is only for 10 minutes in the movie, he launches the story, sends crew to space, and..that's all. I'm hope not, this clip just blow my mind. : )

MemberFacehuggerFeb-28-2012 3:18 PMSnork... you could assume he is going with the crew based on this from the TED Blog under the heading "About the Talk" under the video on the right.
Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade.
Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter prides himself on his motto, “If we can, we must.” After a three year media blackout, Weyland has finally emerged to reveal where he’s heading next. Wherever that may be, we will most certainly want to follow.

MemberTrilobiteFeb-28-2012 3:23 PMmaybe so, but Prometheus is set 50 years after this video, and he doesn't seem to have aged, I think guy pearce may be the second android

Membrane
MemberFacehuggerFeb-28-2012 3:34 PMTrue. It says "celebrating 50 years of building better worlds", but I'm not sure when the 50 years started. Maybe Peter Weyland's parents started Weyland Corporation? From "About the speaker"...
Sir Peter Weyland was born in Mumbai, India at the turn of the Millennium. The progeny of two brilliant parents; His mother, an Oxford Educated Professor of Comparative Mythology, his father, a self-taught software Engineer, it was clear from an early age that Sir Peter’s capabilities would only be eclipsed by his ambition to realize them. By the age of fourteen, he had already registered a dozen patents in a wide range of fields from biotech to robotics, but it would be his dynamic break-throughs in generating synthetic atmosphere above the polar ice cap that gained him worldwide recognition and spawned an empire.
In less than a decade, Weyland Corporation became a worldwide leader in emerging technologies and launched the first privatized industrial mission to leave the planet Earth. “There are other worlds than this one,” Sir Peter boldly declared, “And if there is no air to breathe, we will simply have to make it.”

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 3:36 PM“There are other worlds than this one,” Sir Peter boldly declared, “And if there is no air to breathe, we will simply have to make it.” ...theres the rub. Perhaps he knows already....

Mr.J
MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 3:42 PMI think he is the old guy in the wheel chair too because in the trailer when the security team are rushing with guns toward the threat, you can see three people from what I remember holding the old man and protecting him...it would make sense...this was Weyland's dream...the fountain of youth for him and to crush all those that doubted him and his work...

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 3:54 PM"maybe so, but Prometheus is set 50 years after this video, and he doesn't seem to have aged, I think guy pearce may be the second android"
Could be the dreaded time travel, he could have programmed his thoughts in to an android the will live forever, he could have stopped the aging process with nanotechnology. He could have gone into hypersleep until the mission. The trip to LV-426 could take this long and the entire crew were in hypersleep and are younger than they should be, It could all just be a dream.
