MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 5:04 PMI haven't read a single post on the Yutani side of WY. Do we know anything at all about that element of 'the company'?

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 5:27 PMIsn't Yutani a Japanese conglomerate (combination of corporations)? I think they merge with Weyland sometime prior to Alien, thus becoming the familiar "Weyland-Yutani" to be featured throughout the series, until Alien Resurrection which claims that Weyland-Yutani was bought out by Wal-Mart.
Ms. Yutani is featured at the end of AVP Requiem, but I won't blame anyone here for disavowing that movie and its canonical contributions (I haven't seen the movie, and I understand it sucks hard, more than the previous AVP).

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 5:40 PMI have a confession... I watched AvP and thought it sucked. Real hard. Serious serious suckage. When Requiem came out I read a few reviews, downloaded a torrent and skimmed through it. Looked like complete and total garbage. I am completely offended (not just 'grossed out') by the scene with the alien and the pregnant woman. Alien did not start off as a 'horror' flick, but thats what Requiem is. If there is some kind of a crazy birth scene in Prometheus, it will advance the plot, no matter how grotesque. Shaw laying the first egg would explain a ton. Requiem explains nothing. Its just monsters attacking people in the dark.
Now that I've gotten that out.. Can you save me the hassle and tell me what happens with Ms. Yutani. Anything meaningful?

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2012 8:48 PMWe don't know what happens to Ms. Yutani. AVP-R shows her being given the Predator's shoulder-cannon, eventually leading to research into new technology that would conceive the technological stuff we've seen in the Alien movies.
I don't even know if there will be a Ms. Yutani in Prometheus, let alone any representative of Yutani Corp.

MemberTrilobiteFeb-29-2012 5:35 AMFrom Guy Pearces performance as Sir Peter Weyland, I would assume that he uses his wealth, power and influence to liquidate Yutani Corporation into Weyland Corporation (Much like how EA have done with Maxis and Westwood). Thus getting his hands on that Predator tech and using it to advance his own work (much like Dr. Miles Bennett Dyson in Terminator 2: Judgment Day) before being forced, maybe by the Japanese workforce striking or some scandal or pressure from shareholders, to acknowledge Yutani Corporations contributions. Therefore the company is renamed Weyland-Yutani Corporation.

MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 5:57 AMThe ending to Requiem was the ONLY decent part of the whole movie! But yeah, hopefully Yutani will at least get a mention somewhere. I think that Yutani maybe the company who perhaps provides the advanced tech to actually construct the Prometheus maybe. . .??

MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 3:25 PMBefore Prometheus went into production, Ridley wanted to explore the story of Weyland merging with Yutani but FOX thought that setup would of been on a too small of scale for FOX studios to warrant any kind of a big budget off the film.

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2012 12:30 PMwe know difinitvely and 100% that It {Yutani} was the neighbour of the guy who came up with the name. I think if memory serves it was Cobb. But whomever, he said CLEARLY that the hyfenated name was done to simply "GIVE THE IMPRESSION" that the company was some big world wide conglomerate like the car companys "Lelyand Toyota"...or "British-Leyland"everyone...and I do mean ALL OF US...have made the sever error of ASSUMING wihtout any stated proof what so ever that there EVER WAS IN FACT any kind of merger even made between 2 companies to create "Weyland-Yutani". The name exists, the fact that it derivitve of any kind of stated Merger between 2 seperate companies is a COMPLETE AND UTTER FALSEHOOD.

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2012 6:00 PMThanks for weighing in. I love the lore in this movie. I just hope we aren't building something up artificially but I have ever bit of confidence that Scott and his crew will pull off a great film. Just watched the documentary on Alien last night for the umph time... Love it. And to think about what he did with no budget.

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2012 6:23 PMYutani from what we know is still unknown at this point. The "Weyland-Yutani" corporation is one word in the Alien franchise but from Scott's talks of the two companies merging and the lone name "Weyland Corporation" in Prometheus, its obvious that their had to be a merge at some point. As far as being canonical goes regarding just the Alien franchise we don't know much about "Weyland-Yutani". Its really a mystery. What we do know is that the "Weyland-Yutani" Corporation is a cold, heartless and devious corporation set out to extract the xenomorph for its bio-weapons division. We really don't know much about "Weyland-Yutani"'s structural foundation and biology.
We see the "Weyland-Yutani" logo throughout the first 3 films and we even get a glimpse of the synthetic creator Bishop II (Lance Henriksen) the creator of the Bishop android, who admittingly belongs to "The Company" as its named throughout the franchise.
Setting aside the comics, novels and AVP spinoffs we really don't know all that much about the Weyland-Yutani Corporation but I guess that a good thing when it comes to the Alien franchise considering how much mystery is behind the series.
The only thing I could find on the net about the "Yutani Corporation" is from xenopedia from Wikipedia,
"The Japanese corporation Yutani, the CEO being the mysterious Ms. Yutani, was active in the early 21st Century. Yutani acquired a Yautja plasma caster from the hunter Wolf, and she used it to advance human technology. It soon merged with the British Weyland Industries to form the intergalactic Weyland-Yutani Corporation."
Obviously this is not canon because its from AVP and AVPR. Which is a standalone franchise. Plus this source is using this info from the films themselves.
So from the Alien franchise all we know is that their a cold and viscious corporation that doesn't give two rear ends about saving humanity. Its really a mystery and thats great!

Notice the fear of Japanese influence at the time and that Blade Runner was made from a similar mentality.
