MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 6:30 PMBack before the new film was properly up and running Scott talked about some of the themes of what was then still pitched unambiguously as an 'Alien' prequel - among them was the issue of time-dilation (i.e. the effects of light-speed travel as a hitherto-neglected-by-Hollywood matter with horrible consequences) which he rightly mooted as "scary" IIRC. This was touched on in the 'Alien Harvest' script (I know, I know) but I was wondering if anyone has detected any legacy in the bones thrown to us so far? Is the man in the wheelchair anything to do with this?

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 7:22 PMI never heard this, but now that you mention it, this film supposedly touches on the origins of mankind. It may be disappointing to find out the the SJ and alien are just something that went awry during previous space travel, i.e, a whole other tangent of human life created by time dilation from previous space travel. This would leave anything up for grabs, i.e, time travel, other dimensions, who knows. I do know that we see a crashing spacecraft in the trailer, the rising SJ platform, some weird alien head being examined, humans acting really terrified, human like monument, but that does not mean any of it has to take place on LV 426; however, it probably does. The humanoid type monument does suggest the SJ's are us or very similar to us.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 7:26 PMOh ya, I forgot to mention the suits behind Noomi Rapace, which suggests the SJ in alien was just that, a suit, but that picture looks photoshopped. I do not know if it is official.

F--- it - lets go for it!
MemberOvomorphMar-03-2012 12:00 AMi touched on this a few weeks ago, if interstellar distances are involved some irregular form of transportation is inevitible.
however i dont see RS getting all techy about it he doesn't find merit in expanding the subject.
His focus is on the story of mankinds beginnings and the human condition (with some scary alien shit thrown in)

MemberOvomorphMar-03-2012 12:13 AMI get a funny feeling that the old guy in the wheelchair becomes the Space Jockey......one of those things you don't expect but is subtley explained so as to be plausible, probably being some plot twist of sorts.
As for time-travel, well, there are hints of it in those leaked synopses. Remember that those leaks aren't confirmed as legit, though.

MemberOvomorphMar-03-2012 2:42 AMFairly certain that this will be our Space Jockey, almost willing to bet the farm on it...

MemberOvomorphMar-03-2012 4:34 AMSpeculation...only that
I doubt this photo is the space jockey....
The SJ will be distant and a mystery.
I don't think that the movie will be that complex
Not to say that it will not be perplexing.
It will simply be the origins of man and discovery of the
'maker' and the fact that they are mighty pissed
That they are discovered as creators of origins of life on many worlds....
Changing all that we have been led to believe through history...
That simple....

MemberOvomorphMar-03-2012 9:14 AMI hope it is not that complex. It is ok to make you think, but if things are to hard to keep track of then it destroys the fun.
Another thing, everybody that keeps saying this person and that person will be the space jockey. It is obvious in the trailer that the fing alien head is on an examination table, and that there are suits behind Noomi Rapace in a still resembling the sj. Therefore, unless there is some sort of metamorphisis, it is highly unlikely one of the crew is the sj. One thing i did not catch the first dozen times watching the trailer, were the red orbs floating around some of the crew.

MemberOvomorphMar-03-2012 10:46 AMbefore we even need to answer this question, isnt the more obvious and staging one this one:
is that ship which we see crashing down in the prometheus trailer actually the same ship we see in alien? is that LV426 they're running around on in the trailer?
if it is, we may appropriately assume that the main events of this movie take place at or nearby the coordinates of where alien and aliens took place. and in those 2 movies, there was just an extended hypersleep for the travelers going to and from earth. further, the nostromo was just coming from somewhere TWICE as far from earth as LV426... so, we may not be dealing with a spot in the cosmos as far from our planet as some seem to be inferring, and the discussion of hyperspeed travel may not even be a consideration in this move. I would easily accept a hypersleep explanation to get to where ever the astronauts are going, just as easily as i accepted in the first 2 movies.
if, however, this move takes place in a completely different part of the galaxy, or outside of it.... then we got issues lol
